Love this video!! I’ve found that people in my life have always gifted me art supplies that I never use. I’m always grateful to get a a gift and would never tell anyone otherwise, but people who don’t know anything about art tend to pick the first and cheapest thing they see at the craft store. This has left me a giant bin of horrible quality acrylic paints and colored pencils lol so this is definitely going to be a video I will share with anyone who asks what they can gift me or another artist!
great vid, looking for stuff for my sister, im an artist myself but its been almost exclusively 3d modeling, texturing and animation at work so i cant remember whats good on the traditional side anymore lol
I feel so weird putting them on my gift list sometimes bc some people can be very attached to the idea of opening a wrapped gift, but I've just accepted the fact that I'm really picky, especially when it comes to art materials!
Yes, giving other people the perfect gift is why I love Christmas so much! I wanted more oil pastels and oil sticks for Christmas. The book reccs are great, there’s a couple I wanna check out now PS you look so pretty and cute, that haircut is perfect on you!
awww thank you! I haven't had a real haircut since like almost three years ago so it's been a learning curve teaching myself how to do it hehe. Also-- highly relate to the pocket knife thing! I have a super sharp x-acto knife to get pencils to that perfect fine point, it's great
Great comprehensive guide!😄 ❤️I love strathmore . I have a large range of their products . I love their mixed media sketchbook , it’s smoother than the watercolor paper but it’s 100% cotton and can handle different mediums .
I don't think I've tried their mixed media sketchbook, but I know it's Leigh Ellexson's fave so it's definitely on my list. Promised myself I wouldn't get another sketchbook until I've finished at least one hehe
@@KelseyRodriguez I wish if I have your willpower 🥲 i have 4 unused strathmore mixedmedia sketchbooks and 8 unused watercolor/mixed media sketchbooks from other brands and an hour ago I ordered another one 😅 and I’m not even counting the regular sketchbooks and the ones I’m currently using 😅🥲 I can’t stop myself from buying them, I want to try everything 😅 this why I’m broke 🥲🤣
ahhhh that's me with oil paint colors and stationery at times. You could try a daily painting/drawing challenge to help plow through them all! I'm doing something similar to finish my sketchbook rn
@@KelseyRodriguez it’s a good idea and I actually bought most of my sketchbooks so I could get inspired and do daily challenges but unfortunately, after few days I start to procrastinate and then stop for weeks 🥲 but I’m feeling inspired and motivated rn so I’m going to attempt it again 🤞
For drawing the staedtler mars technico lead holder is a reusable pencil 9 bucks. you can buy those blue prismacolor leads for it and you can buy all different leads for it and it’s cheaper in the long run i think. The lead doesn’t really break that often. Very durable.
@@sisyyyyyyy oh yeh. So click the lead out maybe a quarter of an inch or a lil more. Then take off the metal cap on top of the pencil. There's a hole in very top of the cap and that's actually a sharpener. Put the extended lead part into the hole and gently press down while rotating the pencil and you can keep checking it until it's as sharp as you want it. Make shur you tap the cap into a cup or trash can or something when you're done otherwise you will fling graphite powder every where. There's also a staedtler technical pencil sharpener you can buy and its the Navy one with a black top that has a hole in the top and you do a similar thing as the cap way but it gets waayyy sharper if that's your thing. You can also use fine grit sandpaper if thats all you have. I used the cap way for years but i bought the actual sharpener like a year ago and its amazing.
Great video. I have a question about your background.. curious if you use this background to also create art, or if it's set up for the camera only? I'm designing my background and I'm researching ideas and how others set up and use their video backgrounds. Thanks!
Yeah! So this background you're seeing with all of the art and plants is the wall that my desk is pushed up against, so the decorations are up all the time, not just when the camera's rolling. I do everything at this desk, and sometimes it's even a dining table or WFH set up for my partner. Hope that helps!
I wanted a video about gif ideas I could do for someone else being and artist myself but ended up in a video of gifts I could ask people fore :v anyway......

I can *definitely* relate! Tbh that was the big driving force behind this video. Pinning this comment
Your video is like a blessing to those who are confused but passionate to gift their artist friends

I'm pretty sure you're one of the only TH-camrs who mentioned gift cards. It's Soo true!

Oh, I also want a really nice pocket knife for carrying as a general tool/defense AND especially sharpening art supplies : )

Hi! I have that pencil. I was wondering, is there a way to sharpen it? I got it as a gift but never use it because I have no idea HOW to use it. Ty!!!

Oooh I would love a video or list of your book collection!
I've been meaning to make that video! I currently have it scheduled for sometime in January but maybe I'll bump it up for vlogmas!
I love this video thank you! Where did you get the pegboard in the background from?
ikea :)

@@KelseyRodriguez cool.. yeah.. I’m thinking about doing a work/display set up as well. Thanks!
@@KelseyRodriguez btw.. I’m not seeing one of the book links in the details section.. it’s for the Art/Work book
