- Working on my timber framed bridge this week. Applying a diesel and oil mixed stain like the ole timers used to do. Also prepared for the possible storm, made a leather belt, and poured a concrete patio for my grandmother.

I've been binge watching your videos for the last several weeks and I am really impressed with what you two have accomplished since the beginning. I've gotten as far as finishing the doors an you container/shop and have a request for you two, Please, please, please get some taller step ladders so you don't have too stand on the top step or the one below it. Look at new ladders in a store and you'll see the warning labels. It was bad enough with just you and your wonderful Molly but now you also have Owen to look after.
If you want to get a little more Fancy... You could add a Oil Enamel Paint, Boiled Linseed Oil, and or some Beeswax. And since you have to warm up the Beeswax, Everything will absorb into the wood even more! But Great Job! You could even use the "Yard Torch" and Burn / Heat up the wood a little too.
Nice bridge, a little tip from an old woodworker. Pick up a commode seal and wax the ends of your boards. As they weather this will prevent splitting at the ends.
Molly is a super mom, nice!
Awesome job on the bridge. I look forward to seeing the cabin build. Glad to hear that Molly is improving. Will keep praying for all your family.
The bridge is pristine.. nice coloring. I don't see green. That patio is perfect. You boys did Grandma proud. Molly !! You are looking fantastic. Keep resting. Take it easy. You just grew a human. 😊 🧑🍼
Congratulations & may God bless you, Molly & wee Owen…💙🇺🇸❤️ …I’ll be ordering one of your belts for my husband!
So great use of old Oil, my Grandfather and Father used old oil as you said on Fences but also without diluting the oil they applied it to the underside of their vehicles which gave protection. It worked as my Grandad gave me his Morris Minor Estate, it sat in his yard for 20 years and when I took it for a full service the Foreman said, “It’s in great condition and the chassis in excellent condition. “. Treating your Bridge will keep it good for years. 👍👏 Love ❤ to you Molly and Owen xxxxx
Thumbs up for Molly! Owen cute as hell!!!!
Owen is so precious and cute. Dylan, you are a sweetheart. And your grandma is really cute. Nice what you did for her. Sending more prayers for Molly to get back to her usual self. God bless your beautiful family. ❤️
Thanks! We appreciate you thinking of us. 🙏
Good to see you and your little man out and about Miss Molly. Dylan you take care of these two. You've got a special one in Molly no doubt. And in little Owen too. I have no doubt that he will grow up right.
Bridge looks great!! I need to build a couple of those around the property
Every time I see you and your family I praise God for you guy's. Nice to see Owen.
Bridge looks amazing. Glad to hear that Molly is doing better. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
Treatment on the bridge looks good, don’t forget it will weather.
If the cabin comes out as near perfect as your bridge you'll have one hell of a story book setting there on your property. Your kids are in for a great time as they grow up there.
I think the bridge looks good and definitely repells water.
Nice job on grandma's patio.
Glad to see Molly and Owen looking healthy, hopefully everything continues in that direction.
Congratulations on the birth of your baby. Hope mom and baby are doing well
Great video, and it's great to see Molly and Owen doing well, I'm sure great grandma was keen for you to do the work for her so she could spend time with the growing family.
Great video love the bridge hope molly and Owen are doing well ❤❤❤
Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy!
Nice job showing the individual steps and thus machines and time that goes into each belt. Helps justify the price which I know has been criticized.
More videos featuring the youngest star. You Owen it to us! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
Loving the bridge., adoring Owen, the belt is fantastic , and last but not least sending all good wishes to Molly for a speedy recovery. I bet your Gran is very grateful and proud of you!
I love the color of the bridge. I think it blends well with the colors of nature. It won't stand out as much as the natural color and now it looks more like the ground cover. Great job finishing!
Your little guy is so ADORABLE ❤
❤️
Missed yall last week thought something bad might of happened but happy to see everyone is bright eyed and bushy tailed!!!
So glad you back and good to see Molly and the baby!! Oh yeah, the bridge looks great too.
Bridge is looking great. Happy to see everyone is doing okay, and Molly is getting better. Have a good week guys.
Wow, the bridge turned out. It looks spectacular
You did a Awesome job on the bridge and the porch , Owen is adorable
The bridge looks great! One question: Does it retain an odor. I would try it on my back deck if it doesn’t smell. So nice to see Molly and Owen. Hope Molly is feeling better-God Bless.
Enjoy the content!
🙏 Thank you! Very Generous❤️
all of it looks great!!!
Traditionally the main ingredient in what you’re using is linseed oil thin with mineral spirits, oil, or diesel. Or a natural linseed oil paint generally takes 4 to 6 weeks to dry. The biggest thing you’re doing is preventing bugs like termites wood ants and wood bees from destroying the wood and that it does a good job of. But in the olden days as you call them, old oil was used for heating.
If you use linseed oil be careful where you store rags and paint brushes, because they will self combust
Used this method to protect wood all the while, its brilliant. How's Mollie and the baby is she getting better
Looks great!! We recently replaced our trailer floor and done this, but we used only used motor oil. We done 2 coats, it was a lot darker. Praying for Molly, and could you please remember my daughter in your prayers. She will be getting induced Tuesday November 5 at 4PM. Pray for a healthy momma and baby. This will be our first grand we are so excited. Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy.
Hopefully they name their new born baby after our soon to be El-Presidenta👍
Kamala , would be honored.
I will pray for daughter for a full recovery.
@@janodjano5828 hope you are ok, praying for you.
We used to brush our wood works with the old motor oil too in the Philippines. To protect it from termites. I love the smell of the motor oil too hahahaha! You're so productive on this video. Good job! Hello baby Owen! Hello Molly, still praying for your speedy recovery. 🙏🙏🙏
The bridge looks awesome! We use used motor oil on all of our trailer floors. It seals the wood really nice and helps protect the wood from the sun. We use a paint roller for faster application.
I like the color of the bridge, it seems to blend in perfectly with everything! Glad to see the family is doing well.
I think the bridge looks great.
The bridge looks good' thanks for sharing the video with us, the concrete patio looks good to💖👍😎JP
Thank you for the effort. Glad to see that things are going well with Molly and I am not sure that Owen could be more content.
Congratulations on Owen and to you two as first time parents. Each week I was wondering to hear the news for his arrival. I assumed it might have been last week since you didn’t have a video. Glad baby and all are alright. I’m shocked you put out a ‘work’ video when you should be bragging about Little Owen. Anyway, congrats and Lil O will be working alongside you before you know it. They grow up fast.
Awesome I just watched your bridge video yesterday and suggested this didn't know that was an old video .... I've done this and it works great... Maybe get a bigger brush lol
You have a tractor, use the red diesel. Also, that coating will help with UV protection too. I would coat the end grain.
Hi just found your channel and it seems to suit my needs/wants/dreams - in your previous episode you commented about levels ‘near enough’ - my ethos in working tolerances is .0001 of a thousands - give or take 2 inches.🇬🇧😊 plus lovely to meet Molly and Owen
Bridge looks great. You can always just pull the GRKs and treat everything. It would definitely benefit having the heart wood towards the beams. All in all, awesome built. Also, love the belts.
That’s a great tip. I have built a lot of things with my dad and never thought of using oil and diesel to protect it.
Been waiting to buy that belt since the first time I saw it. It looks good quality and I'll be ordering one as soon as they're ready.
This is a lovely raft you have built. I hope it is well anchored on both sides, otherwise it will float down stream in the first flood.
My dad always used roofing tar mixed real thin with gasoline. Once painted on, the gasoline evaporates & leaves the tar deep in the wood.
Sweet looking bridge. I've used about 10 quarts of oil/ diesel on my trailer deck. It's a 6x12 and I've coated it 3 times now.
Absolutely love the finish on the bridge! I see the green tint but I think it’ll change with time. Nice work!!
Great bridge, great job. Congratulations to you and Molly with Owen. Would like to point out that boards are up to one inch thick. Planks are what you used for the deck. The planks are being supported on timbers.
You can also add concrete stain to the mix and it will give it a colour to it.
We use to pour it around our wooden fence posts after changing the oil in moms car dads truck and the farm tractor back in the 70's!!!
i really like the bridge gonna build one myself now aha
Bridge looks great and what a great grandson doing that for your grandma❤
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
Great job done, another idea for waste oil is a workshop heater or burn barrel of containing sand.
Thumbs Up 👍👍 on your bridge experiment. 😀
Awh Sha baby Owen!!
Neat belt , great crafting.
Nice job helping your grandma.
Have a great week ahead.
I think it looks great. I'm gonna use straight used oil on mine in the spring.
Awesome job on the bridge.
What great job….cant wait to see rest ….Owen big lying on Molly and you looking great your body snapping back to normal….hope your feeling good soon….big hugs thoughts from Scotland….
Turned out fine. In Australia we add red oxide to motor oil to cover fences. Speedy recovery Molly.
Glad to see everyone is doing well. I have a fence I'm building next spring and a pole barn I'm building now that I will be using my waste oil on as a stain/ water repellent. Can't wait to see the mini cabin.
Sweet! Looking forward to getting going on the cabin again.
🙏 for your family. Happy to hear Molly is on the mend.
It looks pretty good there
Great job you could still take those off one at a time and cut the bottom because you’re screwed them down and then cure on both sides of beams if you feel like it
Congratulations on adding Owen to your family. Sorry about sleep.
Thanks! (just a bit to help out)
This is very generous! Thank You:)
I suspect your diesel/oil mixture could be sprayed on much easier using a cheap Harbor Freight gun. You might be able to spray the underside as well.
I LOVE IT! Awesome job ❤
Glad Momma Molly is mending... knew a guy that had cedar shake siding, and he said he was sealing it with transmission fluid because the cedar kept the color and wasn't supposed to turn gray. Along the lines of your concoction.
I need a belt and I want it right now
Your bridge build has been stellar and leaving the timber to settle before using the oil mix is perfect.
The bridge turned out great.
I think you did a great job … thanks for sharing …. Craig. Pa.
Love the music at the beginning. ❤
I used to work for an gas/oil company, so I understand, that 'recycled oil' is typically burned instead of crude to heat the refinery processes. Otherwise virgin crude (not cracked into diesel/gas/asphalt/etc) is burned in those boiler/heaters. Still burned more efficiently than many other ways of disposal. Still, great local use of waste products.
Yes, heavier on the oil more like a 70/30 mix. I live in Australia and I use it a fair bit on out buildings, posts etc, I like the look, I have never taken note of the mix I use but use just enough diesel or petrol so that it is easy to apply with a 6" brush or woolly roller. Using the heavier mix smells for about a week but the more the sun gets onto it the faster it seems to soak into the timber. I wouldn't use it on kids outdoor play equipment for example. Our old time Aussie farmers have been using it on outdoor timbers for generations and nobody has ever discussed land or ground water contamination. I don't believe it is detrimental to the environment.
Well if it makes you feel better, if I was to buy the same petrol (gas) here in New Zealand the conversion is $261.58 for the same 25US Gal. See I knew you would feel better 😁
All the very best for Owen and Molly.
Suggestion use a roller to put the stain on your bridge
Bridge looks amazing.
Thanks Wendy!
God Bless you all
I think the bridge looks amazing!
Bridge looks good
Gotta see those hats for sale!! needs more hats.
Recycling is a good things! 👍👏❤😍
You need a smaller brush for that fine detail work!
Another great video. Keep it up!
Looks good.👍🏻👍🏻
Nice Job with the Oil Stain, use a roller next time and recommend that you use a thiner mix and an old sprayer and get underneath, just put a drop cloth down and get a little dirty and spray that underneath, that is where the rot will happen now that you did a top coat. Also the color will turn to grey after some time so dont worry about the green of the wood showing thru. And Cudos on doing the concrete work for Grandma!
It wasn’t stain… highly do not recommend spraying this mix…
@@GreenGoose99
They don't smoke, so nothing to worry about😆
@@GreenGoose99 spraying this mixture is no worse thatn spraying stain or any of the Dozens of other over the counter items. I will almost certainly guarentee if nothing is done to the underside of the bridge it will rot, and because it is raw wood, it will rot fast!
Looks awesome.
Have you ever heard "work smarter, not harder"?
Don't you have a wider brush, or a hardware store nearby? ...just kidding. You do you.
Again, congrats on Owen. Glad to hear that Molly's health is improving. Great videos. Keep em coming.
He learned his brush technique from Makenzie of Life Uncontained 😏😂
My grandpa use to use this same method on his outdoor projects but he put it in a sprayer and sprayed it on
I like that you only used 2 screws per plank. Allowing shrinkage while drying out & not cracking. It wouldn't be hard to remove each plank to seal them.
I use old Oil for treathening my Barn wooden structure. It also keeps away insects, so a long life is given by it. Downside is that it is officially not allowed.
I buy a cheap garden sprayer and spray what I want covered works real well
Congratulations on your beautiful son Owen! Love the bridge! Might want to add one to my driveway just to give the water a place to run.
Bridge looks great! I'm going to do my wood privacy fence this way! Good to see Molly is doing better!
