Benin alongside the majority of the continent has been stripped of its traditional arts. Unfortunately most of them cannot be recovered. They are found in museums am in the homes of wealthy European collectors. A lot of them don't hold money but retain their wealth in African Arts. There is a huge black market for it. Unfortunately Nigeria is feeling the impact of this market today. There are mines in northern Nigeria unearthing Nok art and selling to the highest bidder in Europe.

IMO it's their art. Their heritage. It belongs to them. Just like the art, in WW2 needs to be returned to the Jews.

Oduduwa is a son of an Edo King. Odudwa is an Edo name with pure meaning.
The disrespect from the Yoruba over their mother and father, Ubini is insulting. Where was Yoruba when the British waged war against The Kingdom of Ubini? No where, because Yoruba was a nonfactor then. All eyes were on the Greatest Kingdom of West Africa, the Kingdom of Ubini. Truth is stranger than fiction. However, nothing bothers me now though because we are all family. We want united Afrika, not tribalism.

Eweka wasn't the first king of Benin. The Ogisos were kings.. Ogiso means rulers of the sky.. The word Oba in Benin doesn't mean king. It only means three things which are hardship, light and red. That was how the title of Oba came about.. The present situation in Benin made them change the title from Ogiso to Oba...

How can a whole Benin empire go outside their empire, a powerful empire goes outside Benin asking for a king? How come (Ekaladerhan) Izoduwa rhymes and is a Benin language and not even close to Yoruba? How come Omonoyan a Benin language coined by the Yoruba as Orominyan? You all need to stop convoluting history and face the truth! As they says, only the truth will set you free!

What was John Locke thinking when he said Africans had no history! The greatest disservice is not to teach our history properly in our schools to undo the psychological impact of the negative narratives that the Europeans have imprinted in the minds of many modern Africans. Sankofa- to go back and teach our history will change our self concept and self worth, which will naturally positively impact all aspects of our lives. We owe it to the next generation to properly set the foundation to a better understand of themselves. Thank you for your work.

Ilaje people, found in Ondo State today, are the oldest inhabitants of what we know was Ule-Ufe (corrupted to Ile-Ife), they migrated out of Ife very early on. There has been lots of propaganda but the truth must be said.

No human falls from the sky, even Jesus the son of God came from a woman, therefore, it is not possible for a king to fall from the sky. In addition if Oduduwa was from the East as it is mostly claimed he would have use horse to travel to yoruba land and this would reflect in the way of life of yoruba people and their oba just like it is in the north because the northern uses horses as Usman dan fodio arrived in the north with horse. Therefore, Oduduwa travelled from a place not far from ife and looking back to history and how the Benins controlled large areas back in the days, clearly, Oduduwa is from Benin. Oduduwa was the son of Ogiso which means king of the sky. Therefore, the claim that is from the sky could have mean he is the son of the king of the sky. As a result of language barrier they must have missunderstood Oduduwa to be from the sky. And Ogiso was a king in Benin back in the days.

    • @vinkel796
      @vinkel796 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Is like u did not understand the meaning of ogiso in great Benin kingdom is a king from the sky he doesn't mean dat he fall from the sky oduduwa who's a Prince in Benin kingdom he name who's izoduwa but the yorobas now call him oduduwa because dem can't pronounce the name very well because he who's a banish Prince, by the time dem now no dat he who's innocent of the accusation dat leed to his banishment dem now started looking for him and find him in yorobas land he is already a king dere and dem pledid with him and ask him to come back to his father throne and his already old and give them his first son omonoyan to go with dem dat name omonoyan is what the yorobas called oromeyan every yorobas king generated from Benin kingdom from Ile ife to alafiy of oyo down to oba of Lagos dem are all from Benin kingdom

It is very clear that the Benin Kingdom story is more accurate, no human falls from the sky. In addition, if Oduduwa was to have travelled from the East as is claimed, he would have use horse to travel to yoruba land and that would have reflected in their ways of life just like is it in the north, but that is clearly not the case, which means he travelled from a place not very far from ife. Therefore the claimed that Oduduwa falls from the sky or his from the East is total nonsense. The Benins have kept their tradition, the first son of the Oba is the the next in line, however, in the case of the ife is not so. The Benins will never accept another person to be a king, and that traditions remained till date.

Fulanis were busy selling the Yorubas to the Portuguese and the British, hence there are large numbers of the Yorubas in Brazil Cuba and some other South American countries. Your narrative is not quite accurate, read more books, you're trying but not enough to have the title as a Dr.

This is a good attempt in situating the great Benin Empire but I believe that a lot more need to be done to have a better picture of this great Empire and its relationship with its neighbours, its rise, impact and influence and eventual conquest and destruction by the British. Early historians who arrived Zamfara from across the Sahara documented that the people dwelling South wards were African Jews ✡. The early British maps of West Africa showed the area covering from Guinea to Cameroon is the Kingdom of Judah. Even the Portuguese acknowledged this in their documentaries relating to Ethiopia in the middle ages and West Africa from 1400AD onwards.
Before the arrival of Oduduwa/Prince Izeduwa in Ife, who were the Yoruba/Anago people? Which language did they speak? It is recorded in Yoruba history that Oduduwa brought all the people together. There were no mention of Kings meaning they were republicans although Ife had and still have a rulership which is Spiritual in nature.
Up till date, there are Anago speaking people in Benin/Togo. We cannot talk about Yoruba/Ife and Bini/Idu/Igodomigodo history without bringing in the history of the great Igala people and theirinfluenceand relationships with their neighbours. We must also tell our audience about the Igala /Bini wars and what led to that war. Remember that the Igala kingdom was the dominant power in the lower Niger area before the arrival of the Portuguese who eventually sold gun powder to the Bini people. The presence of gunpowder in the 15th/16th century was what drove the ascendancy of the Bini kingdom.
Ife was not and had never been a Kingdom . It was and still is a place of worship of Orissa/God. There is a correlation to Osa, Olisa, Orisa with such names as Osazuwa, Osahon, Osaro, Osanebi, Osakwe, Orisakwe, Nebeolisa, Osaroigwe, Olisaemeka, etc common among the Bini, Igbo.
Oranmiyan the son of Izeduwa/Oduduwa after a short spell as Ogiso handed over to his son Ewuare and migrated to Oyo to establish the Oyo empire in conjunction with the Nupe. The Yoruba language is derived from this move and influence from the Nupe. This was also about the period that Islam entered Yoruba land through Oyo/Ilorin to Lagos in the 16th century. Having said this, it is imperative that the relationship between and among the Ife/Anago/Yoruba, Bini/Igodomigodo/Idu, Igala and Igbo be well researched and documented to understand what transpired from the 15th century when the Portuguese arrived Warri, Bini, Lagos and subsequent events. Note that there were people dwelling in Ife (Anago) and all Yoruba trace their root to Ife. Note that the Binis were called Idu together with their Ishan and Aniocha neighbours. The name Idu was corrupted to Edo. There is no doubt that the history of all the lower Niger people are interrelated as the Igbo, Yoruba, Bini, Ewe, Ga all belong to the same Kwa language group. Great work.

Fulanis did not sell yorubas to the Europeans but the yorubas themselves. Can you show proof of your story?

By the way, it's not Benin. Benin was a British corruption of Ubini.
