  • I wanted to see if I could add Victorinox scissors to a Leatherman Wave. It turned out to be a little tougher than I had anticipated. Long story short, it can absolutely be done. Here is my process and how it turned out.

That Victorinox steel was a lot harder than I expected. I guess even “soft” knife steel is harder than what we typically drill through. And nice mod! Good scissors are a must on any multitool. That’s at least ONE thing they got right on the P4.

I like experiments. Imagine Victorinox and Leatherman collaborate to make a tool.
    Wonderful reviews as always
I want to recommend to make a totally new super surge to with the box/wire cutter tool, and maybe one more tool, depending on your needs. I'd go for the philips of a super tool 300 in addition to the bit kit... Like exploring various tools and incorporating. Maybe some day in the future I'll do this experiment.

Victorinox keeping their Propriety with high quality steel, great video. As former USN Salvage Diver currently Maritime/Construction team mbr appreciate your knot videos and tool videos. I collect multitools throughout the years most issued by USN which were Gerber M600 Variations, Ben the reason why Mil Spec Ops uses the ST300 platform is the concealment of Implements, and the Cleaning ease inside the tool with all Implements open. The Surge/Wave has so many nooks and crannies that its an entrapment for dirt , mud, salt, C-4 at the airport etc for the Spec Operator, and we all have Dedicated Folders/Fixed Blades the Blade on a Multi tool is almost irrelevent, so are scissors, the ST 300 is the most practical stand alone tool. Thanks again for the content.

A great way to drill through super hard steel is with a carbide masonry drill sharpened nicely and it’s something most of us have a box full of already. You can even drill through a snapped off tap or extractor ideally use a pillar drill and oil

Great video Ben. Haha I had the same issue at first when I was getting the Vic scissors into my OHT. The drills Wernt working and I was having a hard time finding a bit for my Dremel tool to make that hole larger. Eventually I tried a diamond coated bit and that managed to do the trick. Makes it seem like the SAK steel is much stronger than we imagined. Always fun watching your videos!

    Hi,
as I am thinking about getting a multitool, I just discovered your great channel.
Do you think the quality of SwissTools is much better than the quality of leathermans? What do you think about the quality of the leathermans?
As I live in Germany, I am not allowed to carry a tool with a blade that can be opened with one hand. Which multitool could you recommend? I am EDCing a Victorinox Small Tinker, a light and a pen so the multitool will probably not be an EDC-item, since there is no more space in my pockets :)
In Germany, leatherman sells a two-handed Wave Plus. That could be a nice option, since it has tools that open from the outside. In comparison to the SwissTools, I like the leathermans exchangeable bits and wire cutters.
What do you think wbout that?
Kind regards, keep that great channel going!
    Jona

Many people underestimate the steel in victorinox. Compared to modern stuff yes the blade has a lot less retention but its also very easy to sharpen scary razor sharp. Same with leathermans steel, but that one is prone to rust and not as fine.

When drilling through stainless steel & hardened steel it's best to use a high speed drill & doing it with a drill press. Sometimes a good quality step-drill will work too. Your carbide hasps worked & so would a dremel with the carbide bits but you can lose your center if you're not careful. Once it's close you can try using a drill bit to ream out the hole to get it perfectly round.

I think the file blade should be on the handle, open it up, hold one half as you would of the file were extended, place a finger on the other half. I guess you'd need to use stronger steel for the handles but you'd make space for another tool.
