OnimaxBlade They weren't shitting on the GBA, they all agree the GBA is legendary, Matt and Pat are shitting on the original Game Boy. Not Color, not Advance or Advance SP, just the actual Game Boy.
Not really. If you just look at the original Game Boy library, "The N64 of handhelds" is a pretty apt description. Handful of system sellers, and a whoooole lot of mediocre bullshit by people who didn't really know how to make the system sing. The Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance are *not* the Game Boy. But judging from a lot of comments for this video, we seem to have a lot of people (who I assume were maybe just a bit too young to have had an actual original Game Boy as their first portable system) kind of smearing the Game Boy Color and Advance libraries into their memories of what the *Game Boy*'s library was like, which makes me wonder if younger people even understand that the original Nintendo portable system was a way more limited piece of hardware than its successors.

I am going to say something really raw here. I loved the old black and white Gameboy. My mom got me one for my birthday and I remember coming home from school that day, it was a terrible day. Usual kids picked on me. Oh, I went to an inner city school where in the early 90s, our classroom size was STILL 40 or more students to a teacher. There were over 8,000 of us in the entire district. It was beyond brutal. I came home, was not thrilled, and my mom handed me a copy of Mario Land and I'm like "Mom, I can't play this" and then she hands me a fucking Gameboy and I can remember fucking crying. That thing went everywhere with me (EXCEPT FOR SCHOOL, one of my classmates would have stabbed me for it. I'm not joking, one time on the bus, a 2nd grader beat up a kindergartner and splattered his blood on the windows, it was there for 2 weeks till the parents complained). I loved my Gameboy, I had all the Marios, all the Mega Mans, Zelda, etc, etc. Whenever I had to go over to my Grandma's after school, she always swung by my house to get it before coming to school to pick me up. I was almost never home as a child, constantly going between houses. The Gameboy was my only friend since I didn't live a stationary life to form friendships. Then I got the Gameboy Color, and Pokemon, etc, etc. Then I remember being in the hospital for my birthday, my mom comes to visit, this is years later, what does she hand me, a white Gameboy Advance and fucking Sonic. Loved those handhelds. I remember taking it with me to vacation, sitting in the car as we drove along the ocean. Ugh. I even bought myself a 2DS last year for Christmas, with Shantae, and was bed ridden for days since we all go the real flu then. Sigh, I love handhelds. They come with you when your Genesis abandons you, or when FFVII can't come out to play, but your Gameboy follows you to the beach, where you can't go out cuz you're a filthy ginger like me and have to sit under an umbrella or burst into flames. Sorry, a stream of memories flooded me as these dudes bitched about the quality of the Gameboy. Woolie's passion here really brought out my emotion for the old handheld.
I listened to this bit in audio-only and I pictured Pat glowing intensely red, the veins on his neck pulsating as he shouted in anger, and his arms flailing about. Gotta say, the reality of it was much less exciting, but no less pedantic.

It all becomes clear when "The Gameboy brought me Kirby." Two different arguments are being disputed here, which Pat points out. I still love all three of them, but you can learn a few things about how *not* to argue effectively from this section.

Donkey Kong 94: A much overlooked remake of the classic Donkey Kong arcade game which expands the scope of the original game beautifully. Final Fantasy Adventure: Actually Seiken Densetsu 1, which had a little known sequel localised as Secret of Mana. An excellent Zelda clone. The Final Fantasy Legend trilogy: Actually Romancing Saga games. These were well made JRPGs that you could take on the go, which was nuts at the time. There are more of course. You just need to dig. Metroid 2, -Donkey Kong Country 2- , Super Marioland 2, Link's Awakening, Pokémon, Tennis (you'd be surprised), Megalit, and these were just the ones I had as a kid. They certainly kept me occupied on my GameBoy Pocket before the Color era. I later in life got Warioland, Kirby's Dreamland, Castlevania: The Adventure, Double Dragon 1/2, and Battle Arena Toshinden to see what was up with those. I saw that there was Tetris (it has never been my cup of tea), a Gradius game, a Contra game, several Mega Mans, Final Fantasy Adventure (which was actually Sword of Mana, which Secret of Mana is actually a sequel to)... it seems like a rather decent library, considering the target audience of the time. Edit: It was Donkey Kong LAND 2. Still Diddy and Dixie, but different levels from the SNES game. Either way, when the Game Boy system and games were more affordable, some of us "plebians" ultimately didn't get to have an NES or SNES to compare with, so viva nostalgia and fuck the haters.
The problem seems to be more that woolie is arguing that the game boy was good “for the time” while pat and Matt are arguing that game boy games are outdated by today’s standards, especially considering that u can can just use the phone this thing is for to play better games already.
I won a Gameboy from a school drawing contest that raises drug awareness. I drew a random scene, and thinking back on it, i assume they randomly picked a few drawerings. My drawering wasn't great, i drew violence to people who were on drugs or alcohol. Like a guy was about to crash his car into a building. A guy with needles in his arm, passed out. It wasn't a feel good piece of art, but i won though. I had Tetris, Snoopy, Dr. Mario, maybe regular Mario--i didn't have a lot o' games, except when my cousin gave me his--but even then, I rarely played it because the battery situation.
This reminds me of people attacking me for my love of the Kingdom Hearts series. Person: 'The Kingdom Hearts games are bad!' Me: "Some of them are, yeah..." Person: "The story is confusing!" Me: "Yep, that's for sure..." Person: "It has too many side games with plot relevance!" Me: "Indeed it does..." Person: "HOW CAN YOU DEFEND THESE GAMES!?" Me: "Solid to Amazing fun as hell gameplay with loveable characters that I genuinely care about and some of the best music I've heard in a video game ever. Oh yeah, and it makes me happy and I have fond memories of playing them and have made lots of friends because of these games." Person: ".... But... But the flaws!" Me: "Yep, they're there..." Person: "No, you can't acknowledge the flaws and still love it, you're not allowed. It's so stupid and dumb and for babies!" "Me: "CAN'T F*CKIN' STOP ME B*TCH! WHEN YOU WALK AWAY-"
I think it's more along the lines of: Guy1 : The Kingdom Harts games are bad Guy2 : But they have like 5 levels that are really good Guy1 : Really? That doesn't seem worthwhile Guy2 :But they are *really* good tho
More like, Kingdom Hearts is good because I played it in my edgy teen years and 'fuck you for saying the story is bad.' That is basically the entire argument Woolie boils down to, his Nostalgia kicks in so hard that he vehemently defends a hand-held that by all means was only superior because the graphics and batteries worked in tandem to actually have games that don't eat your batteries. Combine that with Childhood precious memories and it's basically cry-baby memories.
when you walk away you don't hear me say "Please shut up, person" Simple and Clean Is that way that you're making your arguements It's easy to beat those
Awesome games that weren't mention, Sword of Hope 1 and 2, King of Fighter 95, Samurai Shodown, World Heroes Perfect, Nemesis, and R-type. Yeah most of them were ports but they were portable and still are fun. What is the SNES also bad because its ports weren't as good as the arcade?
I agree with Woolie. If it wasn't for the Gameboy library, we wouldn't have the GBC which had mostly sequels of the GB. Not to mention they count as the same system. It's like Xbone and the One X.

Gamecube is the greatest console of all. Most comfortable controller, most portable console. Literally the only problem with it is the length of the controller cord.

Either way, when the Game Boy system and games were more affordable, some of us "plebians" ultimately didn't get to have an NES or SNES to compare with, so viva nostalgia and fuck the haters.
like a wise man once said: "negativity can be like an addiction."
The problem seems to be more that woolie is arguing that the game boy was good “for the time” while pat and Matt are arguing that game boy games are outdated by today’s standards, especially considering that u can can just use the phone this thing is for to play better games already.
What a classic discussion/blood feud.
honestly when i think gameboy i think mario land, i fuckin love those games
They must have respected your audacity.
I come back to this every few months for the rage lol
Give me more super bestfriend cast!!!!! I NEEED MORE!!!!
Richard Najera steaks every Monday posts every Tuesday in audio. With a ton of backlog
Richard Najera calm down Vergil
Quite possibly the most Cope I have ever seen from Woolie.
Pat continues to confuse "Snake" for another game. Brings back memories of a fussy Matt playing "Bully".
Pat: "I had a game gear!"
Me:"What's game gear?"
Does Pat think Castlevania 2: Belmont's Revenge is Simon's Quest?
16:04 why do they have a lists of furries up at this point?
"The N64 of handhelds"
Hey hey hey HEY, the N64 had some great racing games tho
Woolie "game boy apologist" Madden.
I do agree with him though.
"Sucks up all the goodness in his life."
Classic
This was an amazing moment.
This video perfectly encapsulates what the Best Friends is all about!!
This reminds me of people attacking me for my love of the Kingdom Hearts series.
Person: 'The Kingdom Hearts games are bad!'
Me: "Some of them are, yeah..."
Person: "The story is confusing!"
Me: "Yep, that's for sure..."
Person: "It has too many side games with plot relevance!"
Me: "Indeed it does..."
Person: "HOW CAN YOU DEFEND THESE GAMES!?"
Me: "Solid to Amazing fun as hell gameplay with loveable characters that I genuinely care about and some of the best music I've heard in a video game ever. Oh yeah, and it makes me happy and I have fond memories of playing them and have made lots of friends because of these games."
Person: ".... But... But the flaws!"
Me: "Yep, they're there..."
Person: "No, you can't acknowledge the flaws and still love it, you're not allowed. It's so stupid and dumb and for babies!"
"Me: "CAN'T F*CKIN' STOP ME B*TCH! WHEN YOU WALK AWAY-"
I think it's more along the lines of:
Guy1 : The Kingdom Harts games are bad
Guy2 : But they have like 5 levels that are really good
Guy1 : Really? That doesn't seem worthwhile
Guy2 :But they are *really* good tho
Sounds like someone who only played one game...
More like, Kingdom Hearts is good because I played it in my edgy teen years and 'fuck you for saying the story is bad.'
That is basically the entire argument Woolie boils down to, his Nostalgia kicks in so hard that he vehemently defends a hand-held that by all means was only superior because the graphics and batteries worked in tandem to actually have games that don't eat your batteries. Combine that with Childhood precious memories and it's basically cry-baby memories.
when you walk away
you don't hear me say
"Please shut up, person"
Simple and Clean
Is that way that you're making your arguements
It's easy to beat those
Pat's screaming anger is the best. 😂
Friendship is Magic
35 years of the Gameboy!
This will probably be a CORRECTION: in the next podcast but Pat, uhhh, the first-ever Kirby game WAS Kirby's Dream Land on the original Game Boy.
I already emailed them that, after the podcast was over, and I'm sure others have.
it's still the first game that established several aspects of the series, such as King Dedede being the original nemesis of Kirby.
hope you guys had a good thanksgiving best friends and Canadians
This was almost Zapping System rage.
I watch this video to get a big dumb smile on my face. rip Super Best Friendcast ❤
I agree with Woolie. If it wasn't for the Gameboy library, we wouldn't have the GBC which had mostly sequels of the GB. Not to mention they count as the same system. It's like Xbone and the One X.
Pat and Woolie loved to go at it like this, but you can see how Matt looks away that he doesn't enjoy it as much.
Even tho he was laughing his ass off and smiling
@@DaeliteJ Yeah, it's weird that people think this is one of the proof of him checking out, because there's plenty of other podcast videos where you can see that. But this isn't one of them.
Pat and Woolie are just high energy, Matt just doesn't wanna get into a screaming match, especially when Pat is already doing it for his side of the argument.
"So fuck the Gamecube, right?!"
"I SAY THAAAAAAT!"
The best
That's what was said.
I was praying that they would upload this. The rant was epic!
[Audio mixing on pat intensifies]
Baby Woolie and his love for Kirby blinds him from the truth that is, Game Boy only had a few good games...
10:39 I've been watching the best friends for like 6 years now and that's the most pissed I've ever heard Pat. Lol
you should look up his domestic issue with Paige over a ham sandwich.
She periscoped the whole thing like 2 or 3 years ago and it's on youtube somewhere.
Final Fight Streetwise had some rage as well.
Gamecube is the greatest console of all. Most comfortable controller, most portable console. Literally the only problem with it is the length of the controller cord.
I like how it feels like it's about to end and then you see it has 12 minutes left
the absolute devilish face matt makes after telling woolie to calm down is the most perfect screencap ever. champion shitstirrer
