As a German, this mentality is what I've always seen as the English footballers' greatest strength. The best example for this is the Liverpool team that beat Milan in the final though. And many Germans would say that at the time. No one seemed to be a better prospect of fighting till the end than the English footballers. Idk if that's still the case today

I envy the hell out of you and every one of the DC Utd supporters there last night that had the great fortune to witness what is going to go down I'm betting as one of THE great moments in soccer, specifically MLS history. My only consolation is that I did get to watch it live on TV and see it in real time instead of missing it and then hearing about it the next day and then regretting not watching the match. I'm quite sure that when Wayne's great career is finished this clip is going to be near or quite possibly at the top of his highlight reel. Yes I know he's done some amazing things for Everton, Man Utd and England and yes this was just a regular season game, not even a play off or a cup final featuring a team at the bottom of the table but I can't see anything topping this. The amazing thing is he didn't even score the goal but those 10 seconds or so absolutely and completely encapsulate what he's always been as a player. If this isn't captaining and leadership by example I couldn't possibly tell anyone what is. Glad you got to see it in person. What a great first MLS game for you to witness such a magical moment.
@Viajo Dominguez Unfortunately I have to disagree. It happens everywhere. It's a human reaction so no one is to blame. In this particular video, Rooney shows what it takes to become history in world soccer. I'd love to shine Rooney's cleats and those of many players that can make plays like this one. The precision header is also outstanding.
That’s the thing I always respected this guy. He was not just a huge talent and a big player. But he also was a warrior. No matter in what form, game or team he was...
That was incredible. The hustle, the tackle, and still had the stamina to produce a pinpoint accurate pass from way out. Im not a big soccer fan, hockeys my game, but that was an excellent display of athleticism. The guy who scored shouldve turned around and kissed rooneys feet, that pass was delivered on a silver platter.
Agree, I love hockey! The senseless acts hockey players do to score a goal should be learned in soccer as well. In hockey you have those 1 on 1 with the goalie and you see the player bait the goalie out of the net and instead of slapping the puck they give up their chance to score and instead pass/cross the puck to an open player to secure a goal instead and when they score you will always see the player that score point and his teammate and acknowledge that it was their goal not theirs.
It’s not easy headering a ball coming at high speeds. So if anything Rooney should kiss Acosta rattling head of a brain for smacking the ball with accuracy.
I’m from Liverpool and a lot of my good friends went to school with Wayne Rooney. And my friend told me when he was 14 “he will be in your England team within the next 5 years. Rooney would play football in a dark room, He is football crazy, he just wants to constantly play and every single match is competitive to him. I can assure you doing what he done in this DC moment, the run, the sliding tackle and the long pass means a lot more to him than a goal. In one season he scored 26-30 goals for Man United and his reply: “i didn’t really enjoy that season playing as a striker because i wasn’t contributing much, i was waiting for the ball when playing as a striker and that’s not me” What a Player !

davkarshobby2468 If orlando player pass it faster rooney wouldnt have caught him but he tried to control and wait actually he has just to quickly pass to the center
Also a shitty goalkeeping there, the goalkeeper went clumsy for being in that position. He should've wait because there's no use made a forward move trying to cut the ball when there's two other defenders who already there.
For me, best goal so far in this season, run a long away in 96mins time and give a clear tackle without losing the ball, great game reading, see a teammate at far pose, accurate long pass after a long run. Stamina, defence, control, game reading, skill.
Those DC United players have no class. How can you not celebrate with Rooney, after a tackle and an assist like that at that time in the game? Taking his age, and the fact he's also captain of the team. So much for team spirit. Always the team player, Manchester United Legend. Y'all need to show respect.
V T That's why they have no class. A player, even your captain doesn't produce a play like that, then you run into the crowd as though you dribbled half the pitch to score. Imagine Rooney not running for the ball, imagine Rooney missing that tackle, imagine if that pass wasn't inch perfect. The goalscorer especially is most at fault, I could see a teammate motion to him, to go towards Rooney, he didn't wanto. Even the pundits only mentioned Acosta's name when he scored, other than that they only had adjectives to describe Rooney's exceptional play.

@@David-qq9bk i don’t think it’s about the celebration, it’s about piling on the scorer at the end of the game without giving any recognition to rooney
Defined a whole 20 year career in 20 seconds. Big up Wayne for this one right here. 😎👍💯❤️😁
There are so many good things about this clip and they are all Rooney. If the Orlando player had run just a little bit faster Rooney would not have caught him. There is a clear message here to all MLS players. You will never be a major league until you play like one - learn from Rooney. The fans deserve it!
davkarshobby2468 If orlando player pass it faster rooney wouldnt have caught him but he tried to control and wait actually he has just to quickly pass to the center
True. Rooney gave them a lesson
Also a shitty goalkeeping there, the goalkeeper went clumsy for being in that position. He should've wait because there's no use made a forward move trying to cut the ball when there's two other defenders who already there.
His bra was just as sick as his way not to celebrate the goal with the one who had cleared 99% of the obstacles. So sick man
For me, best goal so far in this season, run a long away in 96mins time and give a clear tackle without losing the ball, great game reading, see a teammate at far pose, accurate long pass after a long run. Stamina, defence, control, game reading, skill.
Y Mark You described everything a GotY should be.
Shortlist for GOTY is this goal and Zlatan's 1st goal vs LAFC
The angle on that pass deserves MLS assist of the year
Those DC United players have no class. How can you not celebrate with Rooney, after a tackle and an assist like that at that time in the game? Taking his age, and the fact he's also captain of the team. So much for team spirit. Always the team player, Manchester United Legend. Y'all need to show respect.
to be fair most of the players were near the goal and Rooney was near midfield
V T That's why they have no class. A player, even your captain doesn't produce a play like that, then you run into the crowd as though you dribbled half the pitch to score. Imagine Rooney not running for the ball, imagine Rooney missing that tackle, imagine if that pass wasn't inch perfect. The goalscorer especially is most at fault, I could see a teammate motion to him, to go towards Rooney, he didn't wanto. Even the pundits only mentioned Acosta's name when he scored, other than that they only had adjectives to describe Rooney's exceptional play.
Nobody ever celebrates the assister that's just how it is. Nobody runs to midfield to celebrate especially when it's a new stadium and fans actually are packed in the bowl
BLUE5294 yeah...perhaps only in the MLS. When a teammate does that much, you go celebrate with the guy who provides the assist. That is the norm in Football.
BLUE5294 go watch football more. Term ‘nobody’ is not a correct word. Even a brand new stadium, full house like bowl is it. If Rooney does not show his class, then it is very good huh to end up the match with draw not to mention with new bowl and full house.
It cant be denied that Rooney’s spirit is unbelievable. Congras...
Next time i play fifa I'll bench this guy.
Great play from Rooney 👌🏽
