Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin Bon Dance Part 2 6/28/2019. In part 2 Grandpa, Austin and I drum with Hawaii Eisa Shinyuu Kai which is a Okinawan bon dance group that plays live music. The jikata (sanshin players and singers) perform in the yagura (the tower) while us taiko (drummers) hit the beat around the yagura and the club dancers dance around in the next circle around us leading the dances. Cheryl did not drum but danced in the outer circle somewhere. After this it was time for shave ice and the Queen of this years Cherry Bloom pageant just happened to be the one making our it for us, cool! We then get some andagi (Okinawan round donut) and back to some dancing. Sorry we did not video much more dancing as I was exhausted. The 2nd Iwakuni Bon Dance Club set was 2 year old Ronin just stole the show again hitting his taiko with his dad holding the drum steady for him! Someone has to make Ronin a drum stand so his dad does have to hold the drum for so long. We end the bon dance playing one more set with the Honolulu Fukushima Bon Dance Club. I so exhausted but I was doing my best to keep the beat and shouting with everyone else. Enjoy!
