    Looking forward to you fixing the RS6.For the Golf I'd just fit a 2nd hand engine.

    Would it not just be worth finding a complete engine rather than just the head?
    Looks like it would have toasted the bottom end too

      @richardjones5255 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My thought too. You would never be certain all the rubbish had been cleared out, and if the head died the way it did, what else was being rendered non-standard in the process?

      @@richardjones5255 when I blew my engine out needed both turbos and a new oil cooler, stat and pipes too as it wasn't worth the risk of contaminated oil in the system
      I'm sure dean will be aware of that stuff though 👍

    Adding to the votes for the MK5 having more than just head damage and a complete engine may be the most sensible option. Otherwise, you may end up with a money pit….
    At least investigate deeper before just sourcing a head.

  • @andrewnoble8013
    @andrewnoble8013 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you were lucky on the GTI engine it could just be top end oil starvation. Quick check on how much the rest of it has been damaged is to try turning the crank over as it is now with the head off by a spanner on the front end and spinning the turbo by the nut on the compressor wheel. If both rotate freely with no graunchiness you could be in luck. But as others have said checking the pickup and all oil passages, plus a good old flush, should be done.
    Hats off for all your efforts and the great videos.

    If in doubt give it a clout!😂
    Change the engine in the GTI, it’s probably nuked the bottom end as well. After the amount of work on the RS4 engine, you really are a brave man to have the nuts to haul out that V10, especially with the mileage on it! Great for us watching though Dean. Is the Porsche struggling to sell because it is categorised?

    I thought I held the unlucky cap, the good news is it’s probably going to only go better for you, so wishing you the very best luck for 2022, look forward to your solutions to for rs6 beast, that golf seized head problem like is a cancer it could be everywhere might be prudent to.have a few checks, old one I use to do is put a clock on a piston and spanner on crank, a plunger type clock dead centre of piston to avoid the clearance of cylinder to piston gap reading, it’s not perfect but should show up shell gap clearance, set it up rock the piston with fingers near the cylinder wall note readings then turn the crank a few degrees both ways top dead centre is best place first, to stop piston clearance giving readings you can slip old feeler gauges down the side of piston till it won’t read with clock then rock the crank if the shells are damaged the readings will give up the truth 👍 your strength of mind shows up at these times, I say if a man built it I can fix it, 👍🤪

    I see so many of these cars with clogged pickups that seize the cams. Also, the cam cradle wasn't coming off because the bracket on the front left of the head has a little metal protrusion that hooks into the cradle. If you back the spline bolt off about 1/4 of the way, it lets go. I think you should throw a BYD/BHZ/BWJ/CDL engine in with a K04 and it'll be great fun! I tune K04 GTIs at least once a month and they're epic laughs.

    Glad you tracked down the fuelling issue with the Mk7 👍 With the RS6 I had a gut feeling from the get go that it was the turbos that were bad. Easy job once the engines out but getting the engine out will be a pain. For the Mk5 GTi I would suggest pulling the rod caps n a few of the mains to see if those bearings are still good. Sounds like the owner may not have serviced it very well.
    Fingers crossed the Porsche sells soon 🤞

    Are you sure the RS6 isn't just wet sumping when left standing? The missing litre of oil could well have been in the sump hence the smoke on startup while the scavenging pump tries to catch up but clearly would then be overfilled by a litre...not unknown on dry sump systems.

    • @SavingSalvage
      @SavingSalvage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have previously checked the oil level correctly and topped it up. But that’s the first thing I’m going to do in the next video, just get the oil level correct and eliminate that 👍🏽

  • @edson516

    Rs6 is overfilled with oil. You check dry sump oil level while running.

    • @SavingSalvage
      @SavingSalvage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Elsa said to check oil level with car turned off

    • @auwz66
      @auwz66 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SavingSalvage I keep posting the same info. You are checking the oil level incorrectly. The engine oil should be >60c. Then turn off the engine. Wait 2 minutes. Then dip the oil. For this reason I strongly advise you use the MMI to check the oil level not the dip stick. Dry sump systems are very easy to over fill. I dont think you are grasping that the oil tank you are dipping will have less oil in it when the car is stone cold. If you then top "up the oil" from cold you are actually putting too much oil in the system. The system is complex on the C6 and they are known for oil drain back issues. Even more so if you over fill the tank as the oil level can end up above certain valves which allows oil to drain into the induction system even with the engine off. There are various valves and separators in the system - anyone of which can cause your problem. My advice is join RS246 and ask on there - a few of the guys have been through the process of oil in the intercoolers....

    • @edson516
      @edson516 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would drain the oil and remove filter, replace with the correct amount of oil... That has to be your problem

    Check the oil drain on the Turbos, usually when the bearings/seals go you hear them rattle on boost.. if its been poorly serviced you can get lumps of carbon inside the turbo oil chamber that blocks the drain ..... there really isn't alot of oil pressure inside a turbo, just a high flow straight through

    That's the car manufacturers ridiculous 30000km oil change policy. This policy for sure kills engines so you can join the consumerism lifestyle, scrap a 40k car and buy another one, or spend 20k at the dealer to fix it. Everybody is for profit nowadays, my personal opinion is that they stopped doing proper cars since 2012 or so. And I thought TFSI engines just eat oil and that's it, seems the problem is deeper. With my statement above about proper cars, I do own an Astra MK6 VXR and a Vectra GTS diesel, and the latter is 2005 with 216k km, engine is Z19DT and is bloody indestructible , it still runs today with no smoke. The VXR is 2013 and i can clearly see quality being traded off from the newer car (imagine how would it be on a standard Astra 1.6) compared to the 2005 car where all the plastics are more firm, everything is rock solid including the damn wires and connectors compared to the newer car.

    If that golfs top end has starved of oil so bad it seized the cams, the bottom end will be done and also the turbo. I’d break it and just sell the wheels, abs pump, seats, doors, bumpers then bin the rest personally.
    With the RS6 I’d be scoping the bores first and if they are ok it’s potentially valve stem oil seals. Should be able to do them with the heads in place by pressurising the cylinders if you have enough room to get the rocker covers off.
    Have you done the usual valve stem oil seal check (might not be conclusive on an engine like this) but leave it idling for 3-4 mins then blip the throttle. If it smokes heavily at first then clears as you keep blipping the throttle this is usually valve stem oil seals.
