Love this illustration!! You did such a great job and yay for nice clean washes 🙂 it feels so nice when they work! Great review of these paints, never tried then but have used their empty palettes.
Thanks Connie! Its amazing what decent art supplies do, lol. Just when I think I have made life easy for myself, then I discover something else that is way better, lol. I can imagine what $100 paints are like 🙃
I think you just became my favorite TH-camr, but also person. In general, lol. I so feel you about the first 'draw' being The one. haha I'm the same way, I just can't seem to redraw things willingly. anyways, thanks for the review! And wonderful work, she came out looking so cool!
Funny I was looking at the Mont Martre set the other day (while repeating over and over to myself 'you do not need any more art supplies') and wondering what they were like. I havent tried the Meeden either - those colours look gorgeous! And I agree, a nice brush makes a big difference. Love your finished illustration. I think the chair is very good? It can be hard to make the seat look like it is sitting flat but I reckon you nailed it!
The Meeden watercolors are good enough for practice work and general painting. I don’t know if they live up to their lightfastness rating or not because I have only had my set a few weeks. Their watercolor paper is 100% cotton and is OK but is a bit thinner than more expensive cotton paper. For the price this companies paper and paints are a good buy. I don’t think a professional artist would use them for items they plan on selling. I am not a professional artist so there is that! I paint for pleasure. This company has been very good to deal with. Their porcelain palettes are fantastic and inexpensive, free shipping.
And I also can't wait to be completely pissy by the end of unwrapping them, lmao!! It may not piss me off too bad. Opening and swatching are my favorite part of new paints, that may change with my first individually wrapped paints though, 😁😁
Lol, stepping stoning :P love it. The art is fantastic! I haven't heard of those watercolours before, looks like they worked well for you. I'm itching to try the prima marketing watercolours :) I usually use the Sakura koi travel set
Haha yeh I like to make up words and phrases that potentially don't exist, lol. I don't have the most polished english, lol. Thanks Emma, I didn't know Sakura had water colour and I have never heard of Prima Marketing, I'll go and have a looksie at that!
I've got prima watercolour pallets and then I have the most expensive watercolours money can buy and I honestly think there a good runner up. There not the cheepest water colours you can by but there still cheap and the limited colour pallets have been put together perfectly. Really recommend them. I've bought and tested lots of pallets so I'd like to think I can judge well.
Looks brilliant as ever! The colours look vibrant too :). I started with a Cotman set and now I am building up my tube collection with colours from Daniel Smith and Schmincke which I transfer to half pans. They then go into an empty Meeden palette and I have just surpassed the 24 pan set so I got a 48 pan set :). It’s addictive!
Thank you! Yes i would love to go to a schmincke pan but a little out of my budget at the moment. I would love to buy more as i agree with you it becomes an addiction 🤣
From what I hear it's important that artist grade (and up) paints list their light-fastness and ingredient info. I tend to agree as it makes things easier in the long run, but Meeden seems to be a good brand of paints to just have fun with because of their price-point/quality. I'm still going to stick with my Windsor and Newton Cotman watercolours for now, but I have to say that Meeden is truly tempting me. Sometimes it's nice to just have a set of cheaper paints to just fool around with. I have some Prang watercolours for that at the moment, but maybe I'll try a set of Meeden watercolours when that runs out. Nice video! ^_^
HUGE HELP PRO TIP!! IF ONLY BUYING ONE PAD AND WILL BE PAINTING MAKE IT A WATERCOLOR ONE!! You can paint or draw or sketch or marker or whatever all on that thick nice paper especially if you get cotton which you SHOULD even if just 140lb cotton it’s absolutely ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!! I learned quickly that better supplies especially paper and brushes can makes less quality paints work wonders !! It’s a miracle in Some cases!!!
The squirrel looks very Fridays at Freddys like. The orange dragony creature reminds me of the fetus in the bathroom sink in Silent Hill P.T. and the demon lady looks like something out of a Tim Burton movie.
You can go wrong with meeden if you are after a cheap but good low-mid range. It does get hard to decide, i just usually gravitate to the paints that are at my budget range which is 30-60 dollars.
@@CutestVoodoo got out of hospital yesterday 😁 And reopened my etsy shop last night. Need to keep the orders coming in. Looking forward to your next video. Take care
Ooh, mate, if you want a cheap set of surprisingly high-quality watercolours, the Pretty Excellent/MeiLiang set is ridiculously good. I got the 36 color palette for £20 on Amazon, but a few weeks ago they had it for £14. Also: you can get empty half and full pans (and empty tins like the one your paint set came in - Meeden has one, and there's plenty on Wish, AliExpress, all those sites), and fill them with your tube paints. Let them dry and then use them just like any other pans. But yeah. Pretty Excellent/MeiLiang. They're seriously good. And they come with a halfway decent water brush, too. There's loads of reviews on YT if you want to check them out :)
Gorgeous work. I personally don't like the Monte Marte I feel like they aren't vibrant enough and I have been through so many low budget crappy watercolour sets it's not funny. I give them to my 4 years old to further ruin..hehe... Also was wondering what paper are you using? if you mentioned ..sorry, I missed it..
Thank you! Yes I am not as partial to Mont Marte like I used to be after experiencing so many others and realising they are just rubbish. I use a number of different papers. I use Strathmore Hot press 300GSM which is my favourite but its pricey, Francheville 300GSM, Roymac Rains are ones I use alot of because they are just really great for full even washes and cheap but the Roymac is kinda thirsty though. They are my main ones. 😀🙌
I bought a Windsor and newton cotman 45 half pans. In my opinion they've changed over the years and now sell on name not the product. I used them once and put them in a cupboard the colours were so dull. Theres so many better cheaper pallets than Windsor and newton cotman. We use professional schmicke now but I love my prime pallets as well. I like that each pallet has the limited colour pallet. Higher price point normally means better but not always. Love your painting your style stands out.
Yes i havent been too interested in winsor and newton paints so i will never get them but i do want a schmincke pallet eventually but out of my budget but i agree, price doesnt mean everything. Thank you ❤😄👍
@@CutestVoodoo we've only just upgraded this year. The tin they come in is very similar to your new one. You could always buy the odd colour in schmincke that your missing and put it in your tin. Just to see if you think there worth all that money.
Mont marte I almost vomited. I had the tubes and I was very disappointed. Nice to hear someone thinks these paints are expensive. You’ve got to be an Aussie. We pay way too much money for art supplies. I hate hearing Americans say this and that is easy on the purse
Totally agree, cost of basically anything in Australia is ridiculous. I have had people from the US say that i paid too much from art supplies and i have to say to them that australias pricing is high.
Everything is better than Mont Marte. I wasted money . Got Meeden 48 pan set, 2 hours to pick one layer of paper then gift wrapped foil on ALL pans. I love the vibrant colours and I found they went down like gauache than watercolours
I live this painting!! The creatures are just perfect! And your chair is fine!
Thank you so much!
