    Everyone talking about flat Earth but nobody mentions triangle Venus

    • @OlivierStaiger
      @OlivierStaiger  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Venus appeared triangle-ish in this video because of lens comatic aberation ( typical for most fast aperture lenses ) especially for bright objects near frame edge. However if now you look at Venus with telescope or even binoculars you can see it as a crescent shape because it is coming closer to when it will be in inferior conjunction .

      it will depend of course on the weather ( clouds ) and dark sky ( not so good in fullmoon light ) and how high in the sky they climb. The higher it flies, the brighter they get. You can look up heavens-above.com and satflare.com to find timing of flyby. Right now the previous satellite trains get more and more spaced out but there is still a chance to see trains , and new trains will soon be visible, when new launch happens ( could be very soon but has been delayed several times ).

      if you want to see them again, you can plan it : get the spacelaunchnow app on your phone so you will be informed when a new Starlink launch is imminent ( quite often actually ) ... spacelaunchnow.me/ , then once it has actually launched, look upu www.heavens-above.com but you must enter YOUR precise location , then hit the link for " Starlink passes for all objects from a launch " and see if there is a visible pass in your skies... usually after nightfall or before dawn , when the sky is dark but the satellites high up there are still sunlit. I've been shooting video of them since 2020 .... th-cam.com/play/PLUxXgLQKlzhmLqsvcxR5fBdaMCV3Rneuf.html

      @OlivierStaiger  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes indeed, there are lots, and lots of satellites and many of them are actually space debris, rocket booster parts that stay up there for many years... if you use heavens-above you can see a frightening long list of satellites that you can see. And they list only down to what is visible to the naked eye but there are still many invisible ones, fainter than what you can see with your eyes but a camera may catch it nonetheless. Example, here Sion Switzerland tonight . www.heavens-above.com/AllSats.aspx?lat=46.2331&lng=7.3606&loc=Sion&alt=500&tz=CET

    Saw them last night in chicago at 640pm. According to reddit, they orbit every ~90 minutes--haven't verified that yet

    • @OlivierStaiger
      @OlivierStaiger  ปีที่แล้ว

      excellent observation. And tonight you can see them again , rising from the west again around 6:51PM in Chicago, flying high again near zenith around 6:53PM , then suddenly disapearing as they dive into Earth's shadow... they will fly slightly more north from zenith, "behind Cassiopeia". Here is a link for pass details for Chicago : www.heavens-above.com/StarlinkLaunchPasses.aspx?lat=41.8756&lng=-87.6244&loc=Chicago&alt=182&tz=CST .

    • @OlivierStaiger
      @OlivierStaiger  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ... P.S. and yes they orbit Earth in roughly an hour and a half ... but since during that 1.5 hours time Earth orbits around her axis they will not fly in the same area of your sky, and they are rarefly visible on 2 successive orbits the same evening as Earth's shadow progresses as the night intensifies ( they are visible only as long as they are sunlit ). Also, the higher they climb, the brighter they are. Yesterday you had a very bright display.

      yup, when they disappear it's because they dive inside Earth's shadow, typically when you see it late evening ( they are only visible when sunlit or on rare occasions backlit when passing in front of the Moon ) ... Here's an example of "shadow entry" when they disappear th-cam.com/video/FsySNQ8j2Tg/w-d-xo.html ( it was the night after the above video, same train but split in 2 meanwhile ) or if you see a satellite train very early morning before dawn they you can anticipate it and watch the shadow exit ... examples of shadow exit : th-cam.com/video/3WcI1juuRb8/w-d-xo.html .... th-cam.com/video/DorxNcL0AoA/w-d-xo.html ...

      pour bien filmer il faut une caméra qui soit capable de monter les ISO très haut sans trop de bruit, et un objectif très lumineux. Dans mon cas, j'utilise une Sony a7s ( on peut la pousser au max à 400'000 ISO !!! ) et des objectifs divers avec des ouvertures de 1.8, 1.4 , 1.2 ou même 0.95 . AVec ce genre de caméra on peut filmer la nuit à 25 i/s avec des temps de poses 1/25e ( alors qu'en photo on peut s'offrir des poses de plusieurs secondes ) ... j'utilise la même caméra pour les aurores boréales th-cam.com/video/eRzIzl5VOe4/w-d-xo.html

    Bonjour Olivier, je suis très impressionné par la visibilité des étoiles sur votre vidéo. Pourriez vous me dire avec quelle caméra vous avez réussi à obtenir ce résultat ? Merci à vous pour ces images fascinantes !

    • @OlivierStaiger
      @OlivierStaiger  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bonjour Alexandre et merci.
      Caméra : Sony a7s , elle est particulièrement superbe en très basse lumière. On peut pousser les ISO très très loin. Ensuite, une optique très lumineuse, ici un 35mm ouvrant à f/0.95 ( c'est un 35mm pour aps-c, donc cela donne du 52.5mm équivalent plein format en filmant en mode aps-c ). Dans le cas de cette vidéo j'ai légèrement fermé, de 0.95 à 1.4 , pour augmenter la qualité image, et j'ai filmé à 1/50e de seconde et 40'000 ISO.
      Mais voyez la vidéo du lendemain ici : th-cam.com/video/FsySNQ8j2Tg/w-d-xo.html , le ciel est encore plus clair bien que ce fut avec une luminosité comparable et on voit encore plus d'étoiles . La raison : doublement du temps de pose : 1/25e au lieu de 1/50e . Doublement des ISO, 80'000 au lieu de 40'000 . ET ouverture maxi 0.95 au lieu de 1.4 .
      Autre astuce : j'utilise un Picture Profile modifié : Gamma : Cine2, ColorMode : Cinema, Saturation -4, BlackLevel -3 . Et pour éviter que le ciel ne soit trop brun je modifie la white balance à 3800K. Et je réduit la luminosité de l'écran au minimum pour éviter un écran trop lumineux qui donne une fausse impression d'avoir correctement exposé.
      ensuite, en édition ( sur Sony movie studio platinum 13 ) , petite correction avec les paramètres de color corrector et color curves . Evidement , au départ filmé en XAVCS .
      Ah oui, encore un petit truc : pour bien réussir la mise au point manuelle, on peut 'zoomer' et agrandir l'affichage, mais en mode vidéo seulement x 4 alors je passe vite en mode photo M car on peut agrandir x 5.4 et donc on y gagne un peut pour la mise au point.

      Yes. First I follow spacelaunchnow.me and spaceflightnow.com to know when next Starlink launch is. Often gets delayed. Launch is visible live on SpaceX youtube. Once launch is indeed happening I look on heavens-above.com for next visible passes. Must confirm your precise location incl. altitude. That is how I find all passes I filmed.
