    How is the government dealing with housing crisis in your city?

  • @Amazon820

    The difference between African countries and European countries if they say they are going to build housing they do it, when an African government says it even years later nothing is accomplished.

      its a complex (global) economic and political system that needs to be understood and then played accordingly...its tough man. I think about it often and don't fully understand why my country (germany) is on top and others aren't. well sure I understand part of it. we make cars, people buy the cars, we get the money, okay. anyway I wonder why its not possible for a enclosed region or country to be prosper. people say that north korea is poor because there is no foreign money. why even need foreign money? people do the jobs they can, they exchange money...everyone is happy or not? :D no obviously not, I don't know how it works...

    • @anetafelix
      @anetafelix 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DWThe77Percent The problem of housing can't be tackled independently. Other issues need to be addressed if any housing policy will be sustained.
      For example, Kiberia residents say they can't afford to live in a house with better utilities because they can't keep up the payment.
      This means that the government needs to create jobs, organize skill acquisition programs, and make policies that will translate to a higher income for all.
      Also, as I was even discussing with a driver today, we are our own problem. I don't know much about Kenya, but how it works here in Nigeria is that house owners, charge exorbitant fees for rent. There are no laws regulating the payment of rent, so people charge as much as they like. Only people who earn a lot can afford to live there.
      The rest of us have to manage living in houses without toilets and other basic utilities like access to water, electricity and the like.
      So, it's a mentality issue. I'm not saying to give their houses for free, but at least, let us charge reasonable amounts from ourselves for rent.
      In summary; the government should act fast, and when we own houses, we shouldn't take advantage of others.

      @@anetafelix So it basically comes down to better economy and consumer protection via legislation. Would you add a lower economic inequality?

    Would an interim measure of building communal facilities like bath houses, laundries, toilet blocks, etc. to be used for a small charge work?

  • @Flex2212
    @Flex2212 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    How are they going to do this without a larger and more innovative economy with higher work efficiency? The student and the builder are right imo, but also those advocating for better legislation concerning regulation of building and renting. Consumers need to be protected from unfair market practices, especially when it comes to basic needs.

    Affordable housing should be based on the average salary of the low wage workers in Kenya. Like maybe half of that would be a good start, and work your way up or down.

  • @kanyaugatiejagwo
    @kanyaugatiejagwo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Housing is not possible in Kenya when 77% of the population is poor, barely able to afford the most basic needs...a house, any house... will be converted into a cash cow for profit. Capitalism has destroyed Africa and designed to do so. First create opportunity, which brings jobs. Without these, Kenyatta is building homes for future chinese settlers.

      So true especially in Homa bay and Migori. Those two counties have so much land and so little investment in them. I like how the 2010 constitution gave us a good layout for development because we have the county governments and the policies they could bring for the grassroots. The only think we need is a good leadership at helm because that will give us a vision.

    • @Flex2212
      @Flex2212 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But quality jobs are a simple function of a stronger economy that works for as many people as possible.
      I really really do not like the way many people say things like: "The government has to create more jobs" etc.
      The government has to provide the general conditions in which the economy can provide good jobs.
      Rule of law, well educated people, low corruption, well working administration, infrastructure, advancement of entrepreneurship, a better investment climate, just taxation ...
      But I guess that is what you meant.
