I was there in march...hardly anyone there outside a few daytrippers. We had the basilica totally to ourselves. Not a single person outside of us was there, and that was at daytime. The view is truely spectacular. There are a couple of cafes/restaurants on the way up to the castle area where you can sit down and watch the landscape. Mostly recommended!
I'm looking to holiday in San Marino this year (plan didn't work out last year) so this video is helpful. The warning about the ride over is much appreciated! I like the photos you show as they are realistic: great sights w/o the airbrushing of promo shots. The badge on your hoodie is cool!
Great stuff Mark, very informative as usual, i had no idea it was so high up!, or even uphill at all!. I know you do occasionally but some more talk about alcohol drinks in bars here and there would be a help. I know its hard with the kids in toe so maybe you dont go to bars as much when your with the family?.
I've watched several of your videos and they are very informative & interesting! We're headed to Italy in December. What month did you visit? I see lots of winter coats which I'm guessing is due to this location is in the mountains. Thanks! I'll keep watching more videos!
Hi Mark. I loved the video. Next May, I will be taking a cruise that docks in Ravenna. It offers a shore excursion to San Marino, but it will take the whole day. I don't know if I'll ever have the chance to come back here, so which city should I explore San Marino or Ravenna?
Fact of life: San Marino was a place for Garibaldi and his cronies to keep and shelter their money, like a little Switzerland up in the mountains and with a good rampart wall for security.
Excellent video. I know very little about San Marino so found this super interesting. I'm a broken record I know but I especially enjoy the 5 Hates/Loves videos. Truly unique. 👍
Hmmm..... I didn't realize this is another country. I went here on a tour once almost 20 years ago. I guess I can add another country to my 'been to' list.
I’m planning to go to San Marino next year although the easiest way to get there from the UK is to fly to Bucharest and then to Rimini so I’ll have to kill Romania off too.
LOL i just find this video randomly and i live on the line of san marino italy from the site of rimini is cool video bro i watch it until the end. some people dont know so beutiful place like here i thiink is better than rome or other city because is not so affolated like rome, milan, tourin, naples and other..
Hey Wolter, I see your channel is an amazing resource for travel, yet i see barely any videos about Asia/ southeast Asia. do you just wondering if you just don't enjoy the countries as much or a more serious reason?
Hi, I am a young man from Egypt, I am looking for a girl from San Maino to go to her and marry this girl in San Maino. Can I find someone here to help me get a wife in San Marino
I'm going to Rome in April next and I'm watching your videos for tips, any food places you recommend? I know some places aren't great near tourist areas.
Tourists complaining about tourists. Quite funny 🤣 FYI: you can park quite high up, but the whole place is a mountain, so it's expected that you'll have to walk up and down. As for food, there are several non-touristy places in the historical centre with much better choices than the crappy pizzas you mentioned
Hey Mark, I've been wondering what you're doing with all your pictures you're taking while travelling? They must be too many to put all of them in a photo album, but just keeping them on the computer would be a pity too. Actually I'm having this problem as well, so I would like to know what your solution is?
Jovan You can buy bus tickets either from the driver directly or from the tourist office located next to the train station in Rimini. When you leave the train station, head left and you'll see a tourist office. Just ask for a bus ticket to San Marino. As of May 2018, they cost €5 each.
2 things... #1 the tourist office moved to inside the train station. Be sure to get your ticket before the bus arrives because... #2 there are limited seats on the bus and a crowd of people trying to get on, it gets to be a pushing and shoving match. Practice your “boxing out” skills, dont let people wriggle in front of you
@@jonblais82 Hi, I am a young man from Egypt, I am looking for a girl from San Maino to go to her and marry this girl in San Maino. Can I find someone here to help me get a wife in San Marino
So different to when we went there on May 28/29th 2014. Then it was hot and sunny and no snow anywhere! I agree, a country that goes on about peace sells a lot of guns and the service in the museums and Post office was indifferent. Everything is overpriced, even their coin and stamps.
Totaly different from when I was there in the 70s they had no guns for sale but did have swords and cross bows and it looked like the mid evil times. there was nothing really modern there in the 70s.
That looks like a lot of smog I wonder if it looked that way in medieval times, lots of smog perhaps from cows ha ha, instead of cars. But yep lots of smog.
@@matiashogden1240 They are generally considered two different things. Smog is from mostly industrial and vehicular, fog is most water droplets ie clouds and so on. What this looks like is smog from all the diesel and petrol vehicles as I suspect there isn't much industrialisation going on in the mountains. Also the colour of the smog, were it fog it would be mostly white I think, but this seems to be a kind of dirty looking haze, pretty much like we get in London on most days even with the low emission zones, oddly enough the smog doesn't distinguish between low emission zones and don't give a damn emission zones.
@@flitsies I really doubt that this is fog, as you said there is veeery little industrial activity, aswell as the cars being used are rather small, low-emission card suitable for these types of road
@@matiashogden1240 So it's highly likely that the small country suffers from vehicle pollution as it would be more likely to linger, it is also telling by the colour of the buildings stone work, it tend to go greyish black over time, if you look at London's buildings you can see this grey black look that many of them get, you can clean it but if you don't it steadily gets worse. And we breath that in every day so imagine what our lungs must be like. Anyway a small place like this would be better off banning fossil burners and provide free recharging or low cost recharging at the top or provide an Electric bus service from a car park at the bottom of the road. This would provide work and help keep the place air clean, being high up they wouldn't suffer the pollution of the low lying places as much.
That passport stamp is expensive. I remember paying about $5, I think. Also, there's basically one main road in & out of the country heading towards Rimini. Stupid kids wait at the intersection and squeegee your windows there, and despite telling them "no" they were annoying as hell to me. It appeared to be a regular thing, but it left a bad memory for me. I agree with this video; it's got pretty views and a nice atmosphere but the shopping sucks and attractions are so-so.
All your 5 Hates for your videos always revolved around the same stuff, "Expensive", Shitty Food", "The Weather" "Reserved Culture", "Long Lines for tourist attractions".
It's just the coolest place I have ever been. Absolutely amazing.
You clearly haven't been to many places...!

not anymore

San Marino is tax heaven. Way back people would try to get a job there and would get literally double the amount.
why would someone want to get an unnecessary stamp in their passport? Those pages are expensive and tedious to renew
