This is simply one of the best Pai videos in youtube. Must take quite a lot of work to edit such a wonderful piece. I biked to Pai 22 years ago, when most visitors were Thai youths and along the way there were not cafes or 7-11 at all. Arrived in Pai at 8 pm and was so tired that I decided not to do any exploring. The next morning was biking to Maehong son, arriving there at 8.30 pm. Again so tired and did not explore anything. It was a regret that it took me 7 days to complete Maehongson loop but I did not explore anything due to being too tired each day/night. Now I am 72, will drive the same route by car and this time I promise myself to enjoy each destination fully and will take about 2 weeks to complete the loop. Come December this year is my schedule.
Your feedback makes us SO HAPPY. What an adventure, and I'm so excited that you are getting the chance to re-experience it. Thank you for your kind words, and for sharing your wonderful memories with us.
WOW, @lucavc9656... Thank you so much for your kind words and support! We really enjoy making these videos, so we're glad to know that we're connecting with people like you!
I love hitching a ride with you guys as you travel the world. My husband and I, he being much older, can’t travel as far as we would love to. We go to 30A every yr, as one of our trips we do take, as we’ve done for 15 yrs., and we know of your good works in that area. It is changing there, a little too crowded these days. Again, love seeing your travels - stay safe and happy travels.
Thank you so much for your kind words!! Yes, while we LOVE our home on 30A, we always said that once we became empty-nesters (with our 4 healthy and happy children now evicted from the nest!), we would travel the world for as long as we could... so... here we are!!! I'm glad you are enjoying our stories and we have many more on the way.. (i hope!)... thank you again for the encouragement...
thank you!!! Ernie is still living his best life!! We have a wonderful dog-sitter in Bangkok who stays with Ernie at our apartment whenever we take short trips... we'll try to include him in a new video soon!
Love this channel.... Love this video and now I will be making a visiit to Pai.... You remind me of a person I met when I lived in a place called 30a. (USA) Anyhow, I think I will be binge watching your channel.
No way!! That’s me 😎🌴 … now that we’re finally empty nesters, we’re traveling the globe 🌍 for a bit! Thank you for your kind words 🙏🏼 and I hope you enjoy the other videos
How are those hippies enjoying the annual Fire and Smoke festival? Are we going to see such a clear blue sky as in your video when we visit now, or are we going to choke on smoke and PM 2.5? 😅. Great video. Beautiful. We will wait until the air clears up before going there.
It was good when we were there, and Angela (my wife) was just in Chiang Mai yesterday (for the last few days) with friends.. she said she didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, although i'm sure it comes and goes with the winds
great analogy!! yeah, we loved the area... but my biggest complaint about Pai itself was that there were more westerners than Thais... very much like Kao San Road or even Bangla Road in that regard, although a much more chill vibe, of course
@@ronagoodwell2709 i bet it was truly magical back then... i would ask you where the "new" place is... but i know you are wise enough to keep it to yourself, which I fully respect and recommend!! 🤣

Hi, amazing video, you completely sold me and my wife about Pai. But just wanted to know, how to get around if you don't know how to drive a bike? We can rent a car to go to Pai but can you roam around places in a car? Or is there any other method of commute available for people who can't ride? Thank you!
Pai Is really just kind of backpacker land. It has its merits but as a longtime foreigner living in SE Asia, I personally find the backpacker set pretty tiresome. OK, so that's just my own view. I'd suggest for someone looking for a more real kind of haven for people looking for good alternatives in northern Thailand the town of Chiang Dao, which is beautiful and not overrun by the obnoxious element.
@@AroundTheWorldWeGo you're welcome. I know my post was a little snarky but it was from genuine interest in sharing the real unbidden gems. I hope you like Chiang Dao. The whole area around there is lovely
The hippies left pai years ago the new age has arrived. With foam parties bikini boxing; and a big piss up, all at very high prices! What’s hippie about that. Hippies had respect for the environment that is definitely not the case in pai anymore
You bring up a very interesting point… this is def a different breed. Most “hippies” I knew in the 70s were adamantly against all war in all of its forms, while today, many of those same folks favor US involvement in wars (Ukraine, Gaza, etc). In the 70s, hippies advocated free speech in all its forms, but now some of those same people favor censorship whenever it challenges their beliefs. In the 70s, hippies completely distrusted the government and authority, but today the same people I knew back then now favor government mandated injections etc. It’s really been fascinating to watch their worldviews completely flip over the decades (I guess age does that to us!). I wish George Carlin was still here to provide some colorful commentary on the topic! 😂 At least most seem to still have a genuine concern for the environment in most cases!!!
