It was popular in 1923 when everybody was talking about it. That's all that matters. Regular people aren't in the studios when a song is being recorded; we have to wait til it comes to radio to hear it.
The costumes could have been SO MUCH BETTER with minor improvements... and, ladies, your hairstyles leave much to be desired in terms of period appropriateness.

The flapper grandmother lied about her middle name because she didn't like it but only made a minor change. She overstated her age to get her first job. Then understated her age to keep on working. I have tried to emulate her sense of fun as an adult. I have tried to take the best parts of all my grandparents and make them a part of me. This way they live on.

Edwardian dresses were not stiff, and this changed every year from 1900-1920. Fashion in 1920 is not what you see here, fashion in 1929 is not what you see here. This would be 1924 style but the haircuts are terrible and didn't come around until the mid 1950s. By 1915 fashion was open dresses, or the hotel tree silhouette where past the dropped hip section of the dress, it tapered inward. In films this is where the flapper look came into viewing. Dark crimson lip (watered crimson powder/wax), dark eyeshadow, pulled up hair, persian hat, open pants that were flowy, and usually a big glossy sedan/roadster behind them from the mid 1910s. (I know you can't properly imagine any of this correctly, but try., maybe research a 1915 Haynes or 1915 DC women).

I love this! Great dancing! Good exercise and fun to dance to! It really shows many steps of the 1920's dancing (Charleston and other dancing of that wonderful era.) I also love how the two women show their dancing styles. They have beautiful outfits of that era! Thank you for sharing! I loved it!

My grandmother taught me to dance the Charleston, so I did not think I would dance it one day, but several years later, I was asked to dance the Charleston during a show, it's cool.

My mother danced the charleston as a teenager and she would put on a show for me when I was a youngster. It is one of my happiest memories.
A friend of mine just missed the 20's (he was born in 1930) he is 91, and can finally experience the 20's.
