Though, I’d wager that his earlier works such as Non Stop, Blue Check, Chains Off, and, yes, even this song, Freestyle, borrowed sounds from other artists in the genre. They’re sounds we had heard before him, where songs like Need Hammy, Free Slyde, Me Important, Too Player, and the list goes on - those were all songs that were almost entirely Bris. I feel like these earlier works were him testing the waters, flexing his rap muscles, and developing what would become HIS sound. 2016 to late 2018 was that period of time. 2019 he really started to blossom. I feel he’d reached a new level with Need Hammy. The years after that would have been his golden era. Bris was nowhere near done growing as an artist. Anyway, this isn’t to hate. Everything he made was a hit to me. I love all of it. I just think his earlier music… borrowed sounds from his contemporaries. He was new. He hadn’t flushed out HIS flow yet. Though, the fact that those earlier songs are still catchy and with good writing really speaks to Bris’ natural talent for rapping. He made good music right from the start. Not everyone can say that.
