Damn that thing looks like it's a lot of fun to drive. I have a couple broken manifold bolts on my Silverado it gets a lot quieter once it heats up. The bolts are about as hard to get at as the fiero I think they're going to stay that way they are for a while haha
If you have a wire feed welder you can either worm up the engine or a heat gun heats make things easier make sure the top of the broken bolts clean. then weld a nut on top fill it up then let it cool and then Tha way you can wrench it
If you have the manifolds off port the one restricted port. From factory two of the 6 exhaust ports are restricted. If you didn’t know that. It makes a sound and rpm difference.
I didn't know that. Working on it last night, the stud wasn't broken, it must have stripped hole or wire bolt, will see more today. Fought getting it off the heat shield ....
actually all 6 ports have one type of restriction, the weld bead at the very opening, that isnt the major restriction though, the major restriction is extra material present on 4 of the 6 ports due to manufacturing tolerances, it is present on the 4 ports that meet up with the main body in a T, the 2 ports where the main body curves 90 degrees dont have that restriction. full porting (weld beads and extra materiel) is tested to make roughly 8 extra hp, only the 4 extra material removal should be close to 5 hp
1984-1987. The Fiero suspension was built off the shelves at GM. The front suspension was out of a Chevette. And the rear suspension was the front suspension off a Citation. But the last year 1988 was a totally unique Fiero suspension The fixed the suspension problems and canceled the car.
Check to see what code the computer has in it by crossing out A&B like you did to do the timing, but then count the number of flashes. It will start with One / one two and will do that 3 times then after that it will flash the code for whats wrong with it.
Only way to fix that is to take the AC out and in most cases you have to drop the cradle so you have room to drill out the snapped off bolt. I've done dozens of these. Taking the trunk door off does nothing, because the hinge mounts will still be in the way and so will the fire wall.
Yeah, looks like the worst spot to snap! Wonder if I could get in there with an angle drill if I remove the lift point bracket, that's kinda in the way too. Maybe even get it held with lower and a brace from the top on that gasket.
@@MotoCheez I've tried all the shortcuts and never had it work out for that manifold even that same bolt. They tend to snap off flush and I've had to make a jig to hold the drill bit strait. If you get really lucky there will be enough sticking out to weld a nut to it The other manifold is a different story thoug, all you have to do on that one is to swing the cradle down a little and take the muffler off and you have all kinds of room to drill.
The code should still be in the car computer if its like the older Chevy truck you can dyi jump set the obd port and the code will be flashing on the dash Guage light then count the blinks and look up the code for the check engine
5:45 STOP LIFTING THE HOOD LIKE THAT! it will only be a matter of time (a few dozen lifts) before that breaks, when it does, it is a major pain to fix, lift it 2 inches farther inboard, by the main body of the hood, do it once and it will feel natural.
Hmm ok. I have Corvettes (C6, C3) with same style hoods, never had an issue. The Fiero hood looks just as thick judging by what I cut out for the louvers
whether you have problems or not, corvettes are fiberglass, fiero is old plastic, which is weaker, if you look at a lot of the junkier fieros, ones that people modify a lot, etc, there are a shocking amount with that part of the hood just snapped off, because people modifying them will be opening the hood more often then the average person, and people with junkier fieros dont care enough to research how to do it properly, so the combination of not caring to do it properly and opening it a lot snaps it off.@@MotoCheez
@@1985FieroGT The Hood and rear engine lid is fiberglass on the Fiero. I lifted it from the upper corner just put my hand on the side of it I didn't lift it from that side so I don't think you saw how I actually lifted the hood
the hood, trunk, and roof are made of "sheet molded compound" which in construction is like fiberglass, but no glass content. now that i rewatched the video i see that the majority of the lifting was done with your other hand, but still should be grabbed more inboard, like i said, do it a few times and it feels more natural to grab in that curve of the cowl then to grab onto a pointed extrusion.@@MotoCheez
@@1985FieroGT I cut two holes for vents or above the radiator it's definitely fiberglass Matt just like the Corvettes. Got the itchy fiber glass on my arm and everything lol. But you are correct it should be lifted more center of the hood to be safe
"Bar Keeper's Friend" cleansing powder with a white pad does a great job of cleaning/polishing the glass, and can fade away those arcs which appear from the path of the wiper blades. I'm not that familiar with working on them, but a question. Would it benefit your ability to reach that manifold bolt if you removed the wheel and went in from the side?
Cool stuff, thx Cheezy
💯👍😎
Now I am keeping my eye out for one down here..lol, love the exhaust sound....
Prices are crazy, but if you look often you can grab one pretty cheap
You got the heat on on up there and I have the ac on down here. Watching the Cheez .
Wish I was down there!
You should do your fleet update(your cars, jeeps and Bikes(boats?)
I'd have to do CT and FL 😂
And tractors, excavators… aircraft? 😁
@stephenbeard9882 The only aircraft I own are drones. But I've always wanted my pilot's license, and ultralight would be awesome too
That would be so awesome! I really want an ultralight too. 😎

@josephsaucedo8691 I've done that before it works good but there is absolutely no room to do that where it is unless I take the head off

Yeah, that's crazy. It was rumored to be a Corvette killer with new engine plans too
I'm a machinist now but I was a mechanic in New England for 20 years... seeing all those rusty bolts is giving me anxiety 😅😂

Yes, there were Ferrari, lambos and Ford GT kits, some still around for sale believe it or not

I sure hope mini don't get jealous moto... I'd hate to the fiero get run over by mini

Good recommendation on glass cleaning, no can't get it from there either sadly
