Rainbow Connection by Ken Ascher and Paul Williams

Williams and Ascher used “When You Wish Upon A Star” from the Disney movie Pinocchio as inspiration for this song that was performed by the late Jim Henson as Kermit the Frog sitting on a log in a swamp playing a banjo. Thought I would try it sitting in my basement playing my homemade wood topped banjo.

What instrument is that, exactly?

Well, it isn’t exactly a guitar even though it has a 24 3/4 inch scale length (Gibson) and a neck with a 12” radius (also Gibson). And it isn’t exactly a banjo even though it has a frame open in the back with a thin, unbroken sound board in the front with a banjo bridge (sort of) and a tailpiece. I made it entirely from scratch inspired by TH-cam channels like “morbanjo”. If you look at other videos I have made, you will find a few unusual instruments with 3, 4, and 6 strings with tunings from open chord to tenor to Chicago to standard guitar raised a couple half tones. I even built a couple Telecasters. This one is pure acoustic, though.
