Nikolai's relationship with Monaco seems complicated, because while, as you mentioned, he hates her guts he also can't seem to leave them alone. Clearly, there are moments he feels some kind of affection and care, it looks like he hates showcasing vulnerability. In fact, I think he took off his necklace as some sort of power move to gain some sort of self-control with Monaco and avoids her worry in a similar manner. I guess that's what makes him and his stepmother similar. I think the hate comes from the fact that Monaco is so earnest, like how Nikolai was when he was younger with his stepmom, who was sincere in her joining the family only to be abandoned in the end. I think he perceives all his earnest attempts as stupidity in the end due to his abandonment, which is why he hates Monaco but also cares for her. He keeps switching between wanting to break her but continues to take care of her. Similar to how the stepmom decided to prostitute herself to get money to use the father's money as little as possible, mostly just reserving it for Nikolai's wellbeing. Like, she see's his mother in him, but can't find her own place in his life. Him revealing his bruises broke the internal scale for him, but not in the way he thinks. By denying Monaco's concern, he finally acknowledges that he's become like his stepmom, who he knows as a terrible person, and why he hates Monaco.
Omg the Step mom is back!! Also I feel dumb bc I never realized that wearing the choker is mostly likely a way for Nikolai to feel the sensation without actually choking himself.
nikolai resenting monaco for her (behavioral) resemblance to his innocent younger self adds such good dramatic irony to a relationship we mainly see from monaco's pov and it really feels like you're catching nikolai's slips into julia's behavior along with him! watching him try to recover and play it off as fast as he can to pull back from acting like her at the last second hurts so good i wonder how it might affect him to meet julia again now that she's in pickle town, especially if after all this time she's different from the julia **he** became... but also from the end i wonder what a friendship between monaco and julia might look like! i'm glad you're uploading again!
The ending… I hope Nikolai will get the closure he needs since he's devolving into a similar version of his stepmother with the self-hatred and unhealthy habits of indulgence and self-multilation. Monaco is the perfect person to help him get out of his dark place since her kindness and caring personality is everything Nikolai needs right now

They say “please don’t go” and “break my heart” it’s like it reflects the parts of him that are looking to connect and other parts that are looking to stay safe from more trauma and not have to connect and just confirm his view of things
He hates Monaco because she reminds him of his past self, and he hates himself 😭 I can’t wait for the drama of him and his step mom’s unfinished business together.
Honestly, I did not catch that he hated her until I saw the comments and then saw the description. I rewatched it and realised what those swirls in his eyes meant.. and now I just hate him a bit. The way he plays with her heart just because he finds it funny, knowing he'll just dip eventually. Like I know he has problems, but that does not really excuse leading her on. The difference between her and his perspective broke my heart. I hope she finds someone better or just heals and moves on. Amazing work as always. I always get your videos recommended by youtube and it's never disappointing. Here's to hoping for the next episode to reveal more about their pasts and have the characters heal.

I don't think he truly hates her. I don't think he's playing with her heart for amusement at all, no matter how much he tries to make himself believe that. He has a love-hate relationship with his younger self, and on the surface he resents the innocence, vulnerability and desperation for love, but deep down that kid's still a part of him. I think he's trying to convince himself that he's just playing with Monaco for amusement, but he actually did start enjoying himself around her (deleting his previous contacts) and growing comfortable with her. I think he, without knowing, reacts the same way his mother would, and when he realises, he runs away from her because he can feel himself become the very person who hurt him. As a victim myself, that's how I see it, at least.

It's clear that overtime he may not feel the same way as before, but I still think it's worth mentioning that he started leading her on and pretending to like her when he didn't, and slept with other people while doing so (though I understand he has a lot going on mentally). But I can see why you'd mention how he actually seems to like her later on. We'll see where it goes and if he apologizes or whether he will avoid her or what not. Thank you for sharing your opinion.
I've been watching since I was 16, and I'm almost 20 now. Even to this day, Little Pickle Town brings me comfort and companionship. I wouldn't be who I am today without its creation, truly

I love little pickle town, because it brings to the surface your personal traumas, but not in a violent, shocking way, but rather in a sweet, meditative, healthy way
Shit dude it’s painful how much I can relate to this guy. Love to see you animating again, think the symbolism is pretty cool the fact that he looks like a male version of his past step mom. It is a tragedy, for both Nikolai and his step mom repeatedly having sex not to be close to a potential life lover but to simply feel something. Though I do theorize Madame also had sex and got money for it so she could save most of Nikolai’s fathers money for Nikolai when he grew up. Love the story, Nikolai is my favorite character from Pickle Town by far definitely.

Im thinking that Nikolai doesnt necessarily hate *Monaco,* he hates his younger self. And he sees so much of his younger self in Monaco; how that he used to try and make his mom happy, the way he was always vyeing to get her attention and get her to show him love and care. Which is why Monaco flashes to the younger self and Nikolai flashes to the mom. Their relationship is a parallel of Nikolai and his mom. And Nikolai knows this, he knows he is becomeing like his mom. He looks in his reflection and sees his mom as him. The reflection says "you monster" and I think that Nikolai said that, not just him imagining the reflection syaing it. He knows his mom was a monster, and he knows he's one too. And on the other hand, when he sees Monaco flash to his younger self, he gets that shock feeling, but then he snaps out of it and takes it as an opportunity. He realizes that he can make Monaco feel the same sort of pain that he did. That feeling when he loved someone and wanted them to love him, but it was never returned. He knows Monaco likes him, he knows Monaco wants his love. But he doesn't care much for that. Nikolai just wants to do to her what happened to him. Its kinda like a weird twisted coping mechanism.
I'm really invested in their story. Love the way it's told and synched with the music. It's helped me understand so much better a lot of my emotions. Thanks for creating this series! ☺️☺️

I love this series so much and as I have the tradition of rewatching the entire playlist everytime a new one gets uploaded I have to say, both of you have grown your art SO MUCH! I love this style and the way it has been progessing since the beggining is such a joy to see, each new episode just gets better. Its so cool to be able to see thing from Nikolai's POV too, seeing him falling into the unhealthy behaviours his step mom had feels so intimate with how its portrayed, the animatic brings us so close to him in a way that makes the feels hit even harder And I'm SO excited to see Julia in pickle town, i've always found their story so sad because of how much they both hurt, there were no "bad" people beetween them, only a child who wanted to be loved and a woman who didn't know how to love him. I really hope she's in a better place now so they can mend their relationship, but it's going to be hard for Nikolai to see her again, I wonder how's she's gonna react to his pink hair. As always I LOVE seeing anything from pickle town SO SO SO MUCH. The entire project just has such a nice and unique feeling to it that makes it so different from everything else! I´ve seen this series since 2020 and it´s such a warm feeling to see a new episodie, being from you or anana alog. I love you, guys, thanks for keeping this good work on. It´s been a pleasure for me to grow by the side of your characters, its such a lovely feeling. I'm deeply sad for him even if I saw it coming, though. 😱 Fist off. Fuck yeah, it's back. I love this series from the bottom of my heart and the joy I felt watching this episode. The ability to tell such good stories in a unique format, the emotion and growth is so easy to tell despite having so little dialogue. The silence speaks volumes and it's just so good. The story is easy to follow and I feel so many things of just joy, happiness, sadness, etc. Just a rollercoaster of emotions from this beautiful series you've made and I love every second. You're doing an amazing job and you shouldn't stop.

I was so excited when I got the notification! The way you showed the mom and him and see that he has become like her. I felt called out, and my heart broke for him. Also, seeing the mom show up at the end! I gasped at that. Anyway, this was so good, and I'm excited to see what happens next! :D

I´ve seen this series since 2020 and it´s such a warm feeling to see a new episodie, being from you or anana alog. I love you, guys, thanks for keeping this good work on. It´s been a pleasure for me to grow by the side of your characters, its such a lovely feeling.
I'm deeply sad for him even if I saw it coming, though. Amazing job on portraying how he sees himself just like his mother, cause sadly, that's how he turned out.

I haven't watched the other animatics in this series, but this one alone brought me to tears. That was horrendous in the most beautiful way possible, I feel so bad for them all 😭 Seeing the marks actually had my heart in my throat

😱 Fist off. Fuck yeah, it's back. I love this series from the bottom of my heart and the joy I felt watching this episode. The ability to tell such good stories in a unique format, the emotion and growth is so easy to tell despite having so little dialogue. The silence speaks volumes and it's just so good. The story is easy to follow and I feel so many things of just joy, happiness, sadness, etc. Just a rollercoaster of emotions from this beautiful series you've made and I love every second. You're doing an amazing job and you shouldn't stop.

I was so excited when I got the notification! The way you showed the mom and him and see that he has become like her. I felt called out, and my heart broke for him. Also, seeing the mom show up at the end! I gasped at that. Anyway, this was so good, and I'm excited to see what happens next! :D
