Join me as I ruthlessly delete books from my digital TBR 👀 (that I started during my first year as an English student). If there's any you think I shouldn't have gotten rid of, let me know!
When I migrated everything from goodreads to storygraph I decided to give myself a clean slate and deleted everything on my tbr list except for a few very recent additions. I agree, it is very freeing! :)
600 is so good, my tbr is over 1500 books - which is insane, that's enough books for a lifetime! So I'll do a cleanup too. Thanks for the inspiration. ✨
I'm a librarian on storygraph, and I'll try and have a look into those books that you thought you read by were on to read to see if there are editions that are split across different book families that need to be merged.
Amazing, thank you! I'm going to apply to be a Storygraph librarian when I've got time over the Christmas holidays, because I was a GoodReads one and it's so nice to be able to adjust covers and things like that. 👌
@@booksandquills Ok, just finished having a look. I found duplicates for The Death of Grass, The Marble Faun, The Drowned World and War of the World and made tickets for them. Will do those when I get to a computer (unless someone handles them before me). :)
My TBR is 698 and feels like such a weight. With that many, I’m not going to find anything in the pile! Thanks for inspiring us all to do a clean out ❤️
I love these admin-type videos too! I went through my Storygraph tbr while watching this video and cut it down a bit (I'm now at 566), so thank you for the motivation. And fwiw, I'd totally watch a series of TBR-reduction videos :)
Now I’m motivated to tackle my TBR pile. I actually completely cleared it when I transferred to storygraph but the same problem of just adding and forgetting happened again.
When I moved over to the Storygraph, I decided not to bring over my Goodreads data, because I felt like it was too cluttered! I simply manually added the most recent books I read (which weren't a lot and I'm not sure of I should be happy about that or not), and then added in only a few books that I was planning on reading. I don't have an extensive backlog of the books I read, which is kind of sad, but I also don't have a TBR list with books that I added 10 years ago and I have no interest in reading.
i did this the other day! since i created an account on the storygraph last month, i decided not to import my goodreads data and just manually add books i actually want to read!
I've been trying to keep 100 books max on my TBR, since I know I won't read more than half of them every year. Could never have 600+ on there, I'd never finish it! :')
Oh my goodness...I had 532 books in my TBR! Got rid of 12 right off the bat...like you said its interesting to see how your tastes change from certain seasons in your life. I'm reading more fiction these days and less of the self help books.
I did something similar a few years ago, and deleted most of the books from my tbr, and since then have only added things that I have physical copies of, or that I am just about to start reading, or that I already purchased. And yes, it is freeing, because it feels like a to do list. I do keep a whishlist on the websites where I get books from, so no need to use the tbr function for that.
my GoodReads TBR shelf says 268 books, but I'm pretty sure that's an incomplete list. I also tend to remove books from there that don't appeal to me at all anymore when I come across them. So the combination of me starting the list maybe 4 years ago and it being more curated from the start (and I've had a decently good sense of my tastes from a young age) does help with not getting it further out of control. And I really liked La Devina Comedia and am sad it kinda flew out of my brain. I'll have to reread that one at some point. It's weirdly fun so I don't mind
At some point, I stopped adding books to my tbr out of embarrassment. I think I'm inspired by your video to go and clean up my own tbr now and add the books I actually plan to read instead of what has been there for years. Part of me thinks I'll get to them eventually but that's probably just wishful thinking.
Omg the bowl and the hair 😍👌 Love this - I had a clear out of my tbr list when I moved to storygraph as well (though I only had like.. 30 books or something 😅)
313 on my storygraph tbr which is not as many as I feared as I have a habit of watching people's wrap ups with storygraph open and just adding anything that sounds interesting haha This is a good idea though, I generally go through who I am following on various social media around this time of year and clear out any that don't "spark joy" and try to go into the new year with no open tabs (a challenge!!) so this could be a good thing to add :)
What a fun video idea! Also, love your new pottery acquisitions. Kinda bummed that you’re one of those people who have decided to “cancel” JK Rowling just because she has a different point of view on a very delicate, controversial matter- but hey ho!
I feel very strongly that I don't want to support someone who is so anti-trans and who is actively hurting already vulnerable trans children with what's she's saying. So because of that reason I'm personally not interested in reading her books anymore, pretty straightforward from my point of view!
@@booksandquills Thanks for stating your support for the trans community, I really appreciate it. The decision or not whether to continue reading JKRs book is a fairly personal one - I'm in a similar boat where I can't read her work anymore (as a trans person the thought of supporting someone who doesn't think I exist is sickening). But I understand there are some people who can separate the work from the author, or have very personal connections to Harry Potter and its community, but are actively against JKRs profoundly damaging public transphobia.
I understand (as in, it doesn’t surprise me) why you do it - it is what’s trendy among most liberal 30yos in the West - I just thought you’d be more open-minded and wouldn’t single her out in a video for all to see. But anyways! Have a lovely day, Sanne.
@@willfulpusillanimous So something about cancel culture as a whole is it tends to be a person does one thing once, or in the past, and we decide to cancel them. In the case of JKR, in the present she has consistently doubled down on her transphobia, making public statements with her sizeable influence, and even with many people communicating the harmful impact this is actively having on tbe trans community, particularly in the UK, she continues to do so. I think that is very different to cancel culture. The world already sees JKR doing this. I wish it was trendy to condemn transphobia and to support the trans community, but theres a long way to go.
@@willfulpusillanimous it’s very disingenuous to claim people only decide to not engage with jkr’s work anymore because it’s ‘trendy’. Is it so hard to believe people genuinely support trans people or are trans themselves and do not want to give money and significance to a person who is actively hurting the community with her influence. Also on a side note, cancel culture does not exist in the way many people seem to think it does. Most people who got ‘cancelled’ still have jobs and influence and just keep on living as before, even jkr. The third fantastic beast movie is coming to cinemas soon, there’ll be that 20th anniversary thing for the first movie soon, most people still buy her books and talk about them online or in other spaces etc.

Haha oh no! That sounds like my TH-cam 'Watch later' list. 😭Good luck!
Update: I'm already down 250 books. This is my new favourite thing to do! It's so freeing. THANK YOU! 🤩

I was thinking the same thing while watching this video... so many things to clean up! 😄

I try to go back every other year or so and update. I've also been reading things from the back of my tbr lately

had to pause this to start minimising my own digital tbr pile ^-*

I cracked up when the first book you removed from your list is my favourite novel of all time (East of Eden) 😆
Haha oops. 😅
I just started clearing out some of my goodreads tbr when I came across this video 😳 it’s a sign!
I’m saving this video to keep me company when I finally tackle my own TBR 😅
Shared admin time is definitely way more fun! 👌
This was very relaxing, I did something similar a few months back and it was nice hearing someone else go through the same process.

This reminded me that I still haven't imported my goodreads library to storygraph

I have to say that I found this oddly soothing to watch... Does that make me odd? I do have to go do this myself now.
Currently sitting at 333. I went through and deleted a bunch not too long ago.
I thought I had a big TBR list but I realise now that 12 books is nothing 😂😂
📚❣
I'm on 435 and that's only because I went through it fairly recently!
First to comment! This channel made me fall in love with reading
Haha while you went through your tbr so did I
Definite overlap here
