Was rewatching this today with my mom, and what would you know, beta 2 of the 2nd tony hawk pro skater 2 has the exact date of my birthday, down to the year! Didn’t even notice this in the original watch, I can’t believe I happened to notice this (on my birthday no less haha)

The Logo for the Pre-Release version was completely different to the retail version. I like seeing changes like that in Pre-Release builds of games. Great find and review guys since I am a huge Tony Hawk fan. 👍
This is awesome to see. On my channel I took an in depth look at the 3 PS1 betas for THPS1 which are quite different and include levels that were not in the game.
That colors that you are seeing on the letters is actually called normals. It is a color representaion of the direction of the normals. Most likely they didnt remove the object. So its 2 of the same object on top of each other. Thats why you see the split. The objects are both trying to be visible.
It could mean "testing alpha" I worked for Dynamix and remember a difference between that and a real alpha. The testers would get alpha, beta, etc. Betas to test.
The green texture "glitch" that you enabled isnt a glitch at all: There is a 2 player mode where you and another player "paint" objects that you trick off of, and it has an effect that is similar to what you are seeing here in this video. They probably had that as a cheat to test how it would look/work in cartridge. So, sorry Shrek fans, this is not an homage to Henry Shreksman :(

Alpha just means internal testing by the devs. It doesn't say anything about the state of the game, other than usually at that state of testing they are still actively adding features and changing things (so there are likely to be more bugs, but it's not a guarantee) whereas the beta stage is more focused on bug fixing and that is why they normally bring in 3rd parties at that point to do larger scale testing.
10:24 guessing this is a bug, when you unlock the outside bit and the helicopter flies through the roof then it snows in that room.. because theirs no more roof... I'm guessing that the affect needs to be loaded in from the start of the game but the trigger or function to hide the snow before you grind the helicopter and unlock the outside bit is broken... actually I wonder if the map unlock things even work at all in this ver.. theirs also another one at the half pipe in the first room if you grind the plane propeller.

Why would the BSOD be a pre recording? Honest question, here. I dont think the fact it has the date is relevant, it can be pulling that from actual data on the cartridge. Also, why would you insist of calling this Beta...even if is labeled as Alpha. It sounds really silly to me. Games back then, on alpha stages were almost finished versions. It was a all about getting details right, collecting bugs, collecting glitches, increase functionality, etc. Is not like in nowadays, where the games get released with serious problems. Back then they couldn't patch the game once it was on the shelves.

PS1 was lead platform here. In that sense the alpha stages of the N64 version were more about optimizing the work for another platform.
