I think he's giving us a different take on what it means to be an hooker/escort whatever you want to call it. He sees the humanity in her, and off course she didn't come into the profession because she wanted to, but was forced into it. You can listen to the song again from this perspective and it makes a lot of sense. this is one of his most layered and poetic songs- I agree with the brain (beard is straight trippin)..starting the song at the transition just isn't as effective ...keeping the theatrical intro and transition was a smart choice.
