The album was named 'Heavy Nova' because he said his style was a cross between Heavy Metal and Bosa Nova. Gotta love him. His stuff with Power Station ( Guitar and Bass from Duran Duran and drummer from Chic ) was top shelf, too.
Robert was a "pop dude" ONLY in the sense that he was "popular." If you think he is simply a pop artist, you clearly haven't heard a lot of his work. He's done some the best white R&B and soul out there. He has a great range. He even did one of the best standards albums out there by any pop or rock artists.
I must have been 16 when this sing came out. I wore nothing but black and red for a whole year- with my hair slicked back - with bright red lipstick. just like a Robert Palmer girl!!!
I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On- Robert Palmer. BP Robert Palmer had 2 follow up top 3 USA music charting bangers (Simply Irres and I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On) to his #1 hit Addicted to Love. He was all over the music map in the mid 80s. Love to see you react to this one as well. Keep on keeping on BP and thanks!
Robert Palmer was the epitome of cool in the 80's, such a loss, taken way too early, check out his cover of Marvin Gaye's Mercy Mercy Me (I Want You) 🇬🇧
Dern, finally caught up to you. Thank you for this channel man. It has taken over my TV lol I can’t get away from me because you play my music. I’m 65-year-old white boy and you reactions to this music that you’ve never heard before is amazing. Thanks again you rock.
Love Robert Palmer's contributions to the music world! He also sang in Power Station with Duran Duran's John & Andy Taylor for a time. So sad when he had a heart attack @ 54 (he heavily smoked since a teenager) and we lost this amazing talent =/ thanks for sharing Black Pegasus :)
His was when MTV was a newborn baby! I watched when they launched - "Video Killed the Radio Star". We all got off 10 minutes early so we could catch it at midnight! Robert Palmer was on constant rotation
Early Palmer's ,Sneaking Sally through the Ally , Sailing Shoes and Hey Hey Julia are great fun to listen to. Lyrically Palmer nails some lyrics in every thing he did.
It's not obvious. It was Addicted to Love that was the inspiration. It's the reason he's reacting to this song, as this is the follow-up of Shania and then Addicted to Love.
Yes. That's my favorite Robert Palmer. But including the 2 preceding songs "Sailin' Shoes' & "Hey Julia" are a MUST. They were mixed to flow into each other on the album & it's just such perfect engineering.
He died way too early. I think early 50's. In those days he was a big hit and was praised for these specific video's. Other artists even made parodies of them. Thanks for this great reaction. It was nice to see that you enjoyed it so much.
Got to see Robert Palmer in concert back in 1978, long before all his MTV success. At the time his biggest hit was the trilogy of "Sailin' Shoes>Hey Julia>Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley", about ten minutes of Rock and Roll fun. "Sailin' Shoes" is a cover of a Little Feat song, which is good, because several members of Feat played on that album.
Robert Palmer responded to a question from an interviewer that asked why did you use Simply Irresistible as your comeback, his answer was he needed the money to be "Big". That explains the fine suit hair slicked back best watch beautiful girls all lined up with no expression and short dresses. He nailed it with this song and video!
Robert Palmer was awesome!!! You should check out "Some Like It Hot", by the Power Station!! Robert Palmer on vocals with John and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran on Bass & Guitar with the legendary Tony Thompson on Drums!! A Supergroup from the 80's!!
🔥🔥My dad loved this song and video, for reasons I do not have to explain!! LOL. He had such a wide variety of musical likes. RIP Dad. I Love and Miss you! 🌹🌹🌹
Robert is awesome! I first fell in love with him on a little song called "Looking For Clues". The video for the time was awesome for this nerd girl. I believe the girls in the black dresses in this video are the same girls from Addicted to Love but don't quote me. 😁 I'd be there for any Robert reactions! He was great with Power Station as well. ❤🔥
The way I understand it, the label wanted him to have sexy women in his videos, but he refused, wanting to have class and let his music and voice to the talking. The label kept insisting, so he went WAY over the top and had not models in all his videos.
saw him at a club in NYC back in the day.... so, effing classy and talented. This video/song was clearly an effort to build on his mega-hit Addicted to love....
I always loved this man's music and music videos and this was also one of my favorites and I used to dress like these girls back then when this first came out even, I looked so different in my style now 🤣🤭 🤘🏽🔥⚡🎶❤️🔥🫶🏽
He was born in 1949 in England and his father was a British Naval Intel guy. When they moved to Malta, he listened to American Forces Radio and was influenced by American blues, soul and jazz. He was open to lots of music, including raggae and other Caribbean influences.
Gotta check out his songs Looking for Clues, Johhny and Mary or Bad case of loving you . I loved this guy. So smooth, handsome, stylish and an amazing voice. So sad he died young.
Gotta hear Palmer’s songs “Every Kind of People” and his remake of “Mercy Mery Me/I Want You”, as well as “Bad Case of Loving You” and “I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On”. Also was the vocalist for The Power Station which was formed by part of Duran Duran - they sang “Some Like It Hot” and a remake of “Get It On Bang A Gong”.
fun story... one of the dancers from this song lived next door to a singer I've played some shows with. We were at his house one night rehearsing and the keyboard player comes in and says there is a problem out on the street with his neighbor. We hadn't met her so we followed Red out to the curb and she was yelling about one of our cars being parked "on her property", but it was parked on the curb on a suburban street like all the others. The funny part is that she yelled "DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO I AM?" with the irony being how they all look alike in the video.
Also: "She's so fine, there's no telling where the money went" is one of the great lines in rock and roll.
Absolutely!
Sure is.
Competing with "I swear there ain't no heaven but I pray there ain't no hell."
Right up there with "I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints"!!!
You're not wrong.
R.I.P Robert Palmer.
Yes
We all miss him he was a class act to all that knew him. Sadly he was a heavy smoker, he passed waaay too young at 54 😭
_"You guys stream his music, support this brother. Let's go!"_ Oh, wait... 🤦♂
The biggest problem with this video?? That we didn't get more of them. R.I.P.
Love to have seen what happened in the group, vinegar joe. Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer were wild in those days.
Love that he wrote this about his wife.
“SOME LIKE IT HOT” Robert Palmer & The Power Station. 🔥
Get It On.🤞
I agree
I remember the 1st time I experienced this on Friday Night Videos. Yes, I'm that old.
Absolute Banger!!!
What I never knew was, The Power Station included Duran Duran members as well! That was some great Power Group stuff, right there.
Best dressed man in rock. Love this guy.
Absolutely!
Not even a close second!
That would be Charlie Watts.😊
Brian Ferry all day long.
He’s ONE of the best dressed Bryan Ferry is another
The album was named 'Heavy Nova' because he said his style was a cross between Heavy Metal and Bosa Nova. Gotta love him. His stuff with Power Station ( Guitar and Bass from Duran Duran and drummer from Chic ) was top shelf, too.
"Bad Case of Loving You" is Robert Palmer's best song.
"She's so fine, there's no tellin where the money went." Great lyric.
Ain't that the truth?
And now you know why teen boys loved MTV back in the day 😂
I must have been 16 when this sing came out. I wore nothing but black and red for a whole year- with my hair slicked back - with bright red lipstick. just like a Robert Palmer girl!!!
With the same clothes, hair, skin tone, it creates an illusion that each girl is almost identical.
"She's so fine, there's no telling where the money went" Yep
I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On- Robert Palmer. BP Robert Palmer had 2 follow up top 3 USA music charting bangers (Simply Irres and I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On) to his #1 hit Addicted to Love. Great song!!!!

They ladies all said he was such a gentleman. His suits were sharp and he had very expressive eyes
"Sharp Dressed Man" is ZZ Top.
Robert Palmer had hits after hits, gentleman rocker 👏👏
This is what We called Pop-Rock in the 80's This song was everywhere but never once did it get old to us that grew up in the era
More Robert Palmer with the Power Station.
They did a great cover of Get it On.
Yep, another rabbit hole. The Power Station is him with the guitarist and bass player from Duran Duran…
@@dinaarmymom9145 “SOME LIKE IT HOT”🔥🔥👍🥂
Rest in Peace Robert....... such a fine singer and a humble down to Erath guy.....
Dern, finally caught up to you. Thank you for this channel man. It has taken over my TV lol I can’t get away from me because you play my music. I’m 65-year-old white boy and you reactions to this music that you’ve never heard before is amazing. Thanks again you rock.
(doctor, doctor) Bad case of loving you. is a good one
Great song.
Loved it when he was part of the Supergroup Power Station with some of the guys from Duran Duran. One of the most underrated albums from the late 80s.
"I didn't mean to turn you on " to finish the trilogy
The song is called addictive to love 🥰
Simply one of the greatest songs of all time
I love everything from Robert Palmer. And the man himself, may he rest in peace. My favourite RP song: 💕She Makes My Day💕 .
Thank you, BP!
Robert Palmer was excellent... loved him and still listening to it. Better any day than most will ever be. Very sad day the day he died.❤
The 1st song of his I heard was Sneakin Sally Thru The Alley. Been a fan ever since. RIP Mr Palmer.
Robert Palmer, oh yeaaah! ❤ Loved all his music and what a sexy hunk he was in those suits.
Great song. Absolutely love it. Robert Palmer always looked suave.
i loved jumping up to dance crazy any tyme robert palmer came on ~ bad case of lovin you ~ wooooo 80s ~
You should check out some of his older stuff like "Sneaking Sally Down the Alley" Or "Doctor Doctor(bad case of lovin you) 😁😁😁😁😁
Don't you just love it. So much fun and what a vibe! 🕊☮💙
Robert Palmer has a good bit of variation of style in his catalogue. Worth the explore.
I have never seen BP get into a video like he did on this one. So much fun!
BP likes their ears. Not a bad measure and I use it too but their armpits are the final determining feature.
Back in the day when MTV played music videos, they played this so much that you could set your watch by it.
Robert Palmer’s videos were always so fun to watch with his back-up of expressionless and eerily identical-looking models dancing behind him.
I grew up listening to this and for some reason I'm just now realizing how much charisma he had.
The dude is so sharp in this video and Addicted to love 🙌
Can you imagine casting for this? Thirteen young women who looked fairly identical, can dance and at least one appears to really play guitar.
Great song and reaction
🌸 I remember when this came out and it was such a fun song
I was almost 10 when this came out.......and I still love it till this day
Early Palmer's ,Sneaking Sally through the Ally , Sailing Shoes and Hey Hey Julia are great fun to listen to. Lyrically Palmer nails some lyrics in every thing he did.
She Makes My Day is one of my favourites ❤ RIP Robert.
I'm glad you enjoyed this as much as us ♥
This is my favorite reaction of yours! I enjoyed every minute.
Obviously the inspiration for Shania Twain's video for "Man, I Feel Like a Woman".
Sorry to risk putting in an earworm.
It's not obvious. It was Addicted to Love that was the inspiration. It's the reason he's reacting to this song, as this is the follow-up of Shania and then Addicted to Love.
Christmas Is All Around was inspired by it too. Performed by the great Bill Nighy (as Billy Mack).
I was checking Comments before Making a Similiar Comment......
FWIW Addicted to Love was 1986, Simply Irresistable was 1988, Man, I Feel Like a Woman was 1999.
@@musicfan8688 Correct.....
"I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" is the best of the trilogy.
Hey Black P, Robert Palmer was the man back in the 80s ,Great song to dance to with your lady!😉🥶👌👍✌
If you're interested in a more funky, early Robert Palmer, I'd recommend "Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley" from his 1974 album.
Yes. That's my favorite Robert Palmer. But including the 2 preceding songs "Sailin' Shoes' & "Hey Julia" are a MUST. They were mixed to flow into each other on the album & it's just such perfect engineering.
My fav! You can really hear Lowell George influence on that!
I liked his Power Station band too. It had the guitarist from Duran Duran.
Arnold Palmer was a big golf player back in the 50s and 60s.
Other Robert Palmer songs….Johnny and Mary…..Mercy Mercy Me ( I want You ) and my favourite Every Kind Of People.
The way he seriously delivers the song to you in the video, hes very serious telling you the story lol...very cool
"There's no tellin' where the money went"
He died way too early. I think early 50's. In those days he was a big hit and was praised for these specific video's. Other artists even made parodies of them. Thanks for this great reaction. It was nice to see that you enjoyed it so much.
Anyone notable besides Shania?
In case you didn't notice it, the song is pretty damn good too.
Robert Palmer was just an awesome talent, well worth digging into his back catalogue of songs you will not be dissapppointed!
it's always interesting how much of pop music and culture you're inlorant
Loved his music. The songs were so catchy..
Check out his song Bad case of loving you great song
3:40 "They Have Beautiful Ears!!" 🤣🤣🤣
This song and his other song Addicted To Love are in my Top 5 songs of the 80s
Robert Palmer sang every genre of music, him and Bryan Ferry are probably the best-dressed and elegant singers in music history.

RIP Robert Palmer.
He reviewed Addicted to Love. Threw me for a second, too.

Robert Palmer is a great singer. And yes Power Station at a kick ass super group.
what an artist...check out Every Kind of People and She Makes My Day
The way I understand it, the label wanted him to have sexy women in his videos, but he refused, wanting to have class and let his music and voice to the talking. The label kept insisting, so he went WAY over the top and had not models in all his videos.
I think they forced him to use the models so he had them just stand there for three different videos and the label finally gave up.
This song and video were a huge hit. RIP
I love your reaction! 😂😂😂❤ My husband's favorite video.
“There’s no telling where the money went…”

Check out “Bad Case of Loving You” by Robert Palmer. It came out at the same time and coincided with a Dr. Pepper commercial.
He was born in 1949 in England and his father was a British Naval Intel guy. When they moved to Malta, he listened to American Forces Radio and was influenced by American blues, soul and jazz. He was open to lots of music, including raggae and other Caribbean influences.
River Palmer "I DIDN'T MEAN TO TURN YOU ON" is my favorite from him.🔥🔥🔥
RIVER Palmer??? Who dat?
Oh you gotta react to his smash hit " bad case of loving you ( doctor doctor) next please, thank you!

Gotta check out his songs Looking for Clues, Johhny and Mary or Bad case of loving you .
