Outstanding as always, In 1877, thirty-two ships carried 7,830 metric tons of guano from Mona Island to England, France, and the United States. They used fertilizer in agriculture back then.
There is a number of recent videos where tourists and scientists who visit Mona and Monito film the many treasures of the western-most Islands of Puerto Rico. Mona was home to the last Taino-heritage family, according to some sources. Mona was also a proposed deep-water seaport for Puerto Rico but it was met with lots of opposition.
@SuperTitojr yes there are many facets of Mona island..but it is an uninhabited island unlike Vieques and Culebra and it's also much further away from the main island of Puerto Rico..
Another Puerto Rican island with a unique history is Isleta Marina. At one time hundreds of people lived there and they travelled to the Puerto Rican mainland in a small private ferry. Today, many apartments are converted shorte-term rentals. Many who live there are devoted fisher-men and fisher-women.
