Hotel Review - Club Quarters (River Hotel), Chicago

  • Here's a tour of the hotel I stayed in during my August 2014 Chicago trip. Like most of my personal travel, I opted for this place because it was cheap. In fact, it was priced just a little above the heavy discount properties on this particular week (like the downtown Travelodge and Red Roof Inn). With that in mind, this wasn't a bad room for the money. Clean and relatively comfortable. It was no-frills, but that's to be expected. The biggest asset this room had going for it was the unbelievable view out front.
    Is anyone more familiar with this property than I am? I couldn't figure out what the relationship between the Club Quarters and the River Hotel was. Is it just a name? ("Club Quarters River Hotel".) Is the hotel spit in two? The elevator banks would suggest this. I booked a room at the River Hotel (at a steep discount thanks to hotels.com), and my room had nothing but Club Quarters stuff in it. Did they downgrade me because I paid so little? I really couldn't figure out what was going on here.
    Club Quarters seems to be some sort of discount business hotel chain with a bunch of cool services for frequent travelers. Wish I had gotten some footage of the club level where a lot of these features were. It was really cool.

    I've stayed here a few times. Rooms tend to be tiny, especially in the tower. Nice, clean, and modern though. Staff is great. Excellent downtown location-all sorts of stuff within walking distance

    Glad you canceled your original hot-wire burn out deal. This looks much better!
    I'm also glad you didn't go for the Travelodge. That places looks shitty just walking past it. This looks great! Much better then the Sheraton across the river.(We got a great view but the room wasn't as good as this.) The Palmer House is another really nice hotel. (It's a bit expensive though.) Love the view from the room. (Except for the spiders.) No complaints here.
    Grade:A

    As an Australian, it was bizarre to hear you referring to those rather small spiders (at least for us) as "giant spiders'

    Standard USB output is 1amp and the Tablet I assume is the 2.1amp. Usually the 2.1amp is faster, but older iPhone's(4S and lower) will accept only the 1amp output.

    Well the counter going over the toilet is a nice feature but, if the toilet leaks and if you can't access the tank, then that's a problem. Unless if there's enough clearance.

    I never heard of this hotel. sounds a lot like a business hotel. I like this hotel because it has a very nice touch. A lot of nice features and amenities. is it just in Chicago or is it nation wide?

  • @williamscoufaras7045
    @williamscoufaras7045 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hopefully it doesn't obstruct access to inside the toilet. However it looks like u have a good amount of space to lift the lid if the toilet needed fixing. We actually had that problem

    That hotel is a lot like the hotel I'm staying at right now at the JW Marriott here in Indianapolis. The part that when you go up on the elevator and you put your room key in the elevator to select the floor that your room is in. That's the kind of set up I have here in Indianapolis. The only thing that is very unique about this property that I'm staying right now is the safe. You know in some hotels that has a safe in the closet? Well in this Marriott property the safe is located in the top drawer which I think is a better creative idea because since this is a business class hotel, and you have to since their standard is highend security particularly when you are in the city.

    They have redone some parts of the room since you went here. Upon further research, I think The River and Club Quarters are two different hotels in one building. And the trains you said you were seeing are likely from Metra's Ogilvie Transportation Center.

    For looking outside of the room you were in, maybe you got lucky and got this room with the better view of the river or something.

    Drexel uses them and it is one of the few decent hotels in our hotels program. That's the extent that I know of them. Pretty good location in Center City.

    I went to Chicago and stayed on the 38th floor of the Swissotel and there were spiders all over the outside of my window!

      Guess it must be a Chicago thing. While at Navy Pier, I saw thousands of them in a massive web on a piece of parked construction equipment. Come to Chicago, home of... crazy spiders? In all seriousness, I really liked the parts of the city that I saw.

    The bathroom is tiny, like a bathroom in a cruise ship stateroom. The room looks pretty small too.

      It is what it is. Really, since it's only him, he's got more than enough space, especially with that awkward space where the desk and the chair is.

      I rode some Kone elevators down by the river at the tower. Never went inside. I didn't have time to do much of any filming on this trip.

    Was their a climate control for each room?? I assume their has to be one Didn't see the typical AC so I figure that their were ac/heat vents.Of course in this type of building they would have the vents for the ac/heat.

    • @TheElevatorChannel
      @TheElevatorChannel  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, each room had its own thermostat. Though the air conditioning worked pretty poorly.

      I can't stand when that happens.Though it beats the wall ac units that most hotels have and my pet peeve when they cycle on and off.

      This hotel might honestly have the best location in the city. It's right on a funny little angle that gives it a view all the way down the river. I'm not aware of any other property that offers a view quite like it.

    I am in no way a fan of Trump but must mention a time when he demonstrated the ability to use reason. Initially, he wanted to make the new Trump Tower Chicago’s tallest building. It would have surpassed the iconic Sears Tower (now the Willis Tower) and it’s height of 1,450 ft from main level entrance to rooftop. But people advised Trump that his building would immediately become a potential target for terrorists so he scaled it back and settled on having the second tallest skyscraper in America’s second city. It is only a few feet taller than the third and fourth tallest, tha Aon Tower and the John Hancock Tower. I read that a new building that is in the works will eclipse Trump’s edifice and knock it down to third place.
    A final note on the Sears Tower. From ground to rooftop, it is still the tallest building in North America, a title it will lose when New York City reclaims the title with the Nordstrom Tower. It wii be the first skyscraper in North America to surpass 1,500 ft from ground to rooftop.
    Some may say that Toronto’s fabled CN Tower is taller but it is not considered to be a building.
