I’m about to be 3 years working as a dental assistant and I’m still getting paid $13 😢 I work so much and I’m tired of it! I recently applied to a different office and they want to interview me this Thursday coming up so wish me luck please 🥺 I hope I get this job 🤞🏼
Did dental assisting for 5 years. Idk if it’s just me but the most pettiest girls work in dental. Worked at my first office for 3 years was a super toxic practice. I tried oral surgery office, ortho, general and perio. Just wasn’t for me. I’m a dental lab tech now and LOVE IT! way more relaxing, just make dentures all day! And pays much higher
Hi Bianca, my name is Henca. I am a dental assistant in Katy Tx. I have been dental assistant for 15 years, and I have experience a lot what what the young lady talks about in her video, as well as what many of the comments say, such as the being a Christian and being judged, the back stabbing woman, the cattiness, the micromanaging, the Drs being rude and condescending, the being blamed for something I didn’t do and all the cliques in the office. I like being a dental assistant but I’m so tired of all the bs that happens in a dental clinic. The reason I’m messaging you is because I have been interested in going into dental lab work, I feel that that environment may be better for me, and I wanted to ask you if you wouldn’t mind sharing with me how do I go about becoming a dental lab technician, also does it pay well? I just recently got a DA job getting paid $20/h which is the highest I’ve ever been paid in 15 years of being a DA 😔(not worth it when you have to deal with all that dental office drama). Thank you in advance.
No one, absolutely no one, no matter how many fancy degrees they may have, gives them a right to be assholes, uncaring and talk down on anyone...I don't work in the dentistry field but do work for lawyers so its a similar thing, huge egos that can really run you down if you let it...but just remember, if they are mean in a professional setting, they are probably awful human beings in a personal setting as well...there are nice employers out there....but they are not easy to find...dont take it personal...there are probably more bad employers who could easily win a horrible boss/employer of the year than there are good ones... Our job is to make sure we dont stay in toxic work relationships....
I was a dental assistant I HATED IT Doctors, Hygienist and DA are VERY MEAN. I'm glad you found somewhere you love I'm still traumatized about my last office cause everytime I want to apply to another office I start crying. Right now I'm studying appliance repair technician cause dental just really left a big scar.
im so sorry that happened to you. My first dental office was a general dentist the worst too but i got out now and in better dental place! It's periodontist office. Keep searching where you found peace at work
Honestly I’ve been so blessed to find an amazing office. Others on here are saying how they’ve worked in terrible offices but I’ve been a RDA for a year and I love the doctors I work for and my coworkers. Hope everyone finds a office they feel comfortable in 💕
Dental offices are a business and the main person profiting is the dentist. Dental assistants will never be adequately compensated for their hard work they do.
I started at 10.50 too. I’m not sure why dental assistants get paid so little. We do so much and put up the dentist crap. I love your honesty because a lot of us relate to this video.
I also don't under stand that. I'm not a dental assistant but in some states you have to go to school to be one, and being paid a little over minimum wage doesn't seem fair.
Joycelyn Jackson it really isn’t fair. We really are considered professionals too! We went to school and got certified. Yet some ppl work at target as cashier and they get paid more than a dental assistant. I don’t understand why we get underpaid.
Yass girl! We always say if it no longer serves you LET IT GO! We have a video about when it’s time to leave an office. So many assistants just settle in a toxic office for years and end up hating dentistry. Life is too short to deal with B.S! There’s always a better office out there
I’m an assistant and refuse to assist at this point I hate it, most doctors are mean, most offices suck, Everytime I found I place I liked something traumatic happened at this office and I just gave up, I’m dog walking, Im still maintaining my license though and I enter billing at an office but I applied for dental hygiene hoping it will be worth it more but assisting is truly miserable it doesn’t really matter where you work in all honesty
For everyone that wants to boost up their pay.. becoming an RDA helps as well. Definitely don’t settle for less. I’ve been in the field for 8 years now and I had to leave an office I was working for 5 years. The Dr was asking me to do more and not willing to give me a raise. I found an office during Covid shut down. I started in July and I absolutely love it! It’s 8min away from where I live and I get benefits 😊 Good luck to everyone struggling to find the right office! ❤️
I started off at $10 too.. got raised to $11 and left after a year. When they asked me to come back I got raised up to $15 but after months of being the only assistant working with 2 doctors I was able to negotiate up to $19. Through the process I learned that we need to voice out our wants. Don’t go along with everything they say especially if you know you’re worth more and the office can operate with you being there! Some office environments can be very toxic so I feel you😭 glad you found a good dental team!
You are too cute!! Ive been a Dental Assistant for 25 years! I have been at my current job for 10 years and I absolutely love what I do!! I am so happy you found your place. God bless you
I WAS a dental assistant too. I have just quit even though I studied for it for a year. The job itself just wasn't worth it for me. My previous workplace was great but the manager is bad and the pay is not worth it for the amount of workload it demanded. I got paid so low that my friends working at fastfood places earns more than me. The manager was so fcking rude to me, just because I am inexperienced and new she would nitpick me, it happens the most when she is stressed. She would always manipulate me and intimidate me on my wrong actions, I always felt like I was walking on eggshells at work because she would always pay attention to me compared to the other girls even when I was 1 year in the workplace. My other coworkers and her would forget to restock but they get no consequences, but when I do I get a one-on-one lecture of her being "fuming". It was very double standard and unfair because the people who are close to her are the ones who don't get any lectures. And the pay was really bad for the amount of work and the fact that I had to deal with the shtty manager was the dealbreaker for me. I just quit last week. I'm off to do studies in a different field and get some costumer service job that would pay me more than being a dental assistant. Even some of the dentists that I worked with understand and know I was at my breaking point on the job, and the fact that they fully support me was good. I can't forget what one of them said "if you don't get paid sht, don't take shit" and "You're young and you've got so much potential, don't waste it".
I did general and I didn’t like it as much. When I moved from Cali to Tennessee the company I work for transfer me and they only have endo open so I did it. I love it so much my doctor is so nice gives us a Bonus, buys us lunch and Starbucks. I couldn’t have asked for a better doctor. Yes endo gets boring sometimes but for the most part it’s great
Oh wow xD another fellow endo assist 😊 so far it’s not boring for me, I am going into hygiene in a couple of years though. And maybe endo offices treat us good b/c they make alot of money :P
Girl, let me tell you, this good news made my heart feel so warm and fuzzy. I’m so happy for you! God certainly is good and faithful! May He continue to bless you and keep you!
Wow such an amazing testimony!! I'm in tears 💙 I'm also a Christian and I've been a DA for a few months now. It's been super challenging but hearing how things worked out for you was uplifting!
I graduated a dental assisting class in 2019 but struggled to find a job until about a month ago that I finally got hired as a DA but one month later I found out the field isn't for me as I got so overwhelmed and fed up at the office I worked at and left yesterday and now I have a DA diploma that's useless now as there aren't that many other job options for DAs. I also have a long work history in retail and also did sterile processing in a hospital for a little bit as well but covid laid me off from that. Isn't there anything a former DA can do besides a lab tech, teaching, sales, and insurance? because none of those options appeal to me.
I'm at Aspen and starting at $13. I started back in June. I wish they told we wouldn't be hitting 40 hrs a week before I signed a lease for an apartment :')
Girl. I got hired in the dental field that I had did my externship and I didn't even get paid for that lol... it took me 2 years to get a $2 raise... let me tell you DA is a rough job. We do 99% of everything and get paid the less than anyone in the office. It sucks. You go girl im happy for you to have a better job!! ❣
It amazes me just how low your income was, in Australia we earn $26-$29 an hour but from all the dentist I’ve worked for, they all seem to be toxic in their own ways and the DA’s always have a clique 🙄
I’m in Bay Area and it’s the same pay rate over here for rda it’s like dentist have this stuck in there mind that they need to stop before they hit $30... we do way to much for them! Don’t settle guys always try and find better
Im an orthodontist assistant 10years now! Let me tell you the dental field can be very harsh! Stay safe and never stay at a office that u don't like! It will drain you!
i’m a high school senior deciding if I should get into the DA field but is dental assistant the same as orthodontist assistant or they have different requirements? I heard orthodontist get paid more.
@@Unknown-je2fn hi! No you don't need more requirements just a doctor that's willing to teach you how to put braces on that's what you do all day! Right now because of my years of experience I get paid $20 an hour! It's just a more fast-paced setting and sometimes you travel with the team but they pay for your gas and maintenance of your car!
I've been having such a hard time keeping a job in this field! Im freshly out of college and these Dental centers so far expect you to adapt and grasp everything in a short time, like a month! I feel so slow and self conscious 😪 I hope I get lucky and find a place soon. This video keeps me hopeful
I am going thru the exact same thing and I have learned so much but they make me feel like it’s still just not good enough and that I should know everything. I’ve only been on my job a month too plus I was out for a week to get a covid test so really like 3.5 weeks! They are treating me like I should be an expert by now it’s really insane I’m starting to hate this field honestly!
Agreed that's the expectation with my experienced dentists, however, in my experience as a dental assistant recent graduate dentists are generally more relaxed than those who have been practicing for many years.
How are you being treated at the job ? I’m so afraid of becoming an assistant. I’m studying dentistry but considering going to the US to work as an assistant for the time being. I’m just so afraid I forget everything and the dentist won’t be kind🥹
👏 👏 👏 they didn't even interview you, that's so nice. 20 an hour is what they should of started you at. Dentist are assholes, but I'll be an asshole right back. Don't let these dentist take advantage of you women. You guys need to speak up and demand 20 an hour minimum. Going to any type of school needs to have a return on investment.
@@pearlh1051 it's hard work. I have been a surgical assistant for a while now. Now I'm already tired of the pay, so I'm teaching myself to be a software engineer.
Right I started off at $14 which was a huge pay cut from my food and Bev job, but I knew it would be worth while to get into my dream field while doing school. Definitely counting my blessings.
DA's NEVER EVER accept low wages . DO NOT ACCEPT A STARTING WAGE LOWER THAN $ 20.00 A HOUR . IT IS UP TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT THAT DA IS A CAREER NOT JUST A JOB .
Being a assistant is great! The staff is a very important part. The DR too!! Things will get better I promise. I been a assistant now for 17 years. Just take care of tour body... it’s very hard on your neck and back. I started at $9 a hour. I took what I could get until my experience kept growing. Humble yourself... you have sooo much to learn. You will get there... keep faith!
I work in the dental field and I kinda relate. I've worked in a few dental offices and when you said you know when you just dont fit... and how some coworkers talk crap about other coworkers... and then the next day they talk to them all cool about it..makes you wonder or think they probably talk about you......and the vibe is just not right or like you also said some doctors are rude and make you feel like you just dont know what your doing or just not professional and some even talk behind patients backs it's sad. I've left toxic places like those. Found a great dental office with great doctors and co workers now.
My dental assisting school placed me a dental office for work experience/internship during the last two months of school. The office was far away from me like 35mins-1hr away with traffic but i liked the office so i was willing to go there, if they pay me some what decent at the end. So at the end they did offered me a position at the start pay of $13!! I know the pay is diff from state to state but in my state a worker at McDonald’s or groceries store cashier gets pay equal or the more than $13. (Not saying McDonald workers or grocery store cashiers don’t deserve the pay). I was kinda pissed bc they offered me $13... like i could have go work at a groceries store or something and on the top, $13 in my state for dental assistant is for those who didn’t have any dental assisting knowledge and for those who to hired and trained on the job. Even tho I didn’t have much dental work experience at the time but i did have good dental assisting knowledge. Ofc I declined! $13 on top of 35mins- 1hr drive. F no. Then a day or two later a office that is literally 1 min drive away from me is hiring for dental assistant and my teacher recommended me there. They started me on $19. Not with the office anymore bc dental assistant job don’t pay very well, even tho the office paid me $19 is a great office with bunch benefits and great personalities, pretty much the best office ever. They also raised my pay to $23 within 2yrs with them, but the pay still wasn’t livable for me at my state. Now im in hygiene school
I worked as a pharmacy tech at a location and that place was also very toxic, tons of drama. I mean all women, only one man and he was the manager. So yeah I think that’s everywhere honestly, you just gotta try to block it out if you can’t then just find another job 😞
Umm I started at 15 and I even thought that was low. My pay fluctuated from around 15-16.50 until I found the office I’m at now. I get paid 17 an hour and I’ve been Assisting for.. a little less than a year due to covid 19. Don’t settle for a low paying job just because you’re fresh out of school!
I'm so close on leaving my job, I've been a dental assistnt for 3 years and im the ONLY dental assistant in the office, sometimes i don't even take lunch (but when it comes to the other staff like the hygenist they make sure she has her lunch and break) i am also the one responsible for moping, cleaning toilets, throwing trash away and making sure all papers are on the bathroom... with no help still. Is pretty tiring...
I just quit my dental assistant job a couple of days ago. I received so much horrible treatment from not only the dentists but the front desk ladies (who dealt with my paycheck as well). I couldn’t do it anymore. I felt this super hard. It’s gonna be difficult finding another job because of the way I left this one, but you gotta make a good situation out of a bad one. Good for you, girl! ❤️
$10/hr?!?! Holy crap. 10 yrs ago I worked at a mini mart as a cashier when I was 21 and I got paid $10/hr. Holy molly. I'm glad you found a BETTER job and left those toxic ppl back there. Happy for ya!
I’m 19 & make 17.50 an hour with no degree. the job isn’t bad it’s just the people and the management team because it’s so cut throat and unfair and they listen to nothing, I dread waking up and having to go to work because the environment is so negative and stressful, I feel like i’m in my late 30’s because of how much I stress. I’m starting college next month and i’m just going to hang onto this job until I find a better one once I finish college.
Oh my God! That’s insane.... I just started and was sad over $25 because some of my classmates are making $27 but I’m in BC, Canada so wage is much different. Hang in there! 💕🦷
I’m a 47 year old Dental assistant. And I’ve shutdown one narcissistic-prick-of-a dentist I was sent to help out at another office who was not nice to the DA girls. He was rude and condescending tripping out moments at a time voicing his displeasure at them for not keeping ahead of him during procedures. (according to the DA’s) He really liked my retracting and suction skills. We chatted a bit and he says I can definitely be a dentist. I said, “Are you kidding? According to a national survey they’re top of the list for committing suicides later in their lives before retirement. I’m not going to blow my brains out, throw myself in front of a train, hang or poison myself! I care about myself and how I TREAT others... like human beings! All I can say to you sir, is: good luck and don’t do anything stupid! He was in awe and looked a bit surprised. The other assistants didn’t hear it because the operatory door was closed. And I’m sure my height had something to do with it. He’s 5’9. I’m 6’1.The manager there did talk to me about it but even she knew he was that way. That doctor had no power over me because he’s an employee like the rest of us. It was my first time there but I was never called back again.
Dental assistant can go through so much with work staff most are very territorial I don’t blame them the strong survive . I don’t blame you this is your career you need to make sure it’s something you love. Shame on the negativity keep the drama at home . And help grow don’t forget we all start from the bottom .
Amen 🎚🦷 we have to think look at how much that they are making for each treatment $1,000’s in a day... they can Pay a good salary even to newbies.....!
Hey Melanie and guys! I'm from London and there are nooo videos from this side on this subject so happy to find you! I find myself reflected in your story also same situation. Started of so low, got taken advantage of and treated unfairly anyways long story short I had signs from God to leave but kept pulling through until i had to learn the hard way in the end when things ended quite badly. I'm also a Christian, married young, Latina and dental nurse ( we say dental nurse in the UK) Seeing comments you guys get paid super good. The highest over here is 13 per hour equivalent to 16$ Sounds really good you guys get up to 20$! My story is similar, only difference I lasted 3 and years in the practice I trained. Post covid finally decided to leave started at a different practice quite far, didn't enjoy it the vibe wasn't at all nice. I was so close to giving up on dentistry and I prayed and prayed and saw one with super good hours and so close and decided to give it a shot. Surprisingly I got it! Better pay! Such a nice team super nice and patient Dentists. I have to give it all to Jehovah tho he blessed me! Just when I was going into a career change I found such a good place! Guys there is light at the end of the tunnel, just dont put up with toxicity like Melanie said when you start biting your tongue you know it's time to leave. Anyways hope everyone is okay and blessed. Gabby :) x
I am so happy for you... just like you I was in a toxic place where they didn’t treat me nice... just like you I am a new DA and asking God to help me find a good place.. I know if I keep praying He will open a new door for me... so glad He blessed you with a better job and with Christian co workers... God is so good... God bless you 💕🥰❤️😁🦷
I’ve been working at my office for 6 months now and I feel like this video was a sign for me to apply at a different office! The doctor is mean and will yell at me for things that aren’t my fault and I feel like bc I’m new there... also I only get paid 11. And the assistants are not helpful at all.
It’s been a week since I left dental assisting I’m now in pharmacy technician and is studying to do lash technician as my sideline ahaaah. I just didn’t like dental assisting as much as I love helping patients. There’s not a lot of dentist that are nice. I ended up with this dentist that made me do procedures I have no knowledge and told him that ahead but looks like he doesn’t give a shit and made me look stupid infront of the patient. I was the only assistant office too and he doesn’t even have a CDA or hygienist. I barely ate lunch which made me half brain dead tbh and I was like my health is more important So yeah I believe God also have me signs that dental asssiting isn’t for me
If you really enjoy treating patients I would suggest looking into becoming a dental hygienist schooling is doable pay is good and the preventative side of dentistry is very rewarding. You can instantly improve someone’s smile. Just a thought :) it’s very easy to work part time too so you could still become a lash technician if that’s your passion
Yes, endo is great! I love not taking a full mouth series. The most xrays I take is 3! I'm in Texas too and they pay me handsomely. I don't get healthcare tho the only downside
Haha taking a full series of x rays was actually my fave part of general 😂😂 It was satisfying to see them come out with no overlap. And dang, well atleast your handsome pay helps you have enough money to pay for healthcare ^.^ 💕 wishing you the best fellow endo assist 😁😁
I just finished school May 2020, got a job in July ( during covid in California) I’m starting at $20 but I’m trying to move to a new state so hopefully I find a job still willing to pay me 20. My dr isn’t the nicest, I work on some Saturdays & they provide lunch. I hate endo as well. Lol . Good luck in your DA journey .
i’m new to the dental field. i was hired bc i had customer service experience and some medical background. my major is nursing. somehow i got this dental assistant job. so far i like it, but i have another opportunity to work with family for $17 an hr
Giirrrlll!! I'm in the same boat, i wanted to do nursing but them I changed my mind a few years back, but I still do want to stay in the healthcare field, hopefully 😄😊💕
Oh wow, well I know sometimes working with family doesn’t make for a good situation. But I have also had experience when working with family gives you more lenient-cy. You can always go back to dental if you find working with fam isn’t what you want :3 💕
This will happend every place you go trust me. You will learn I left the Dental field for the same reason at the end I left it forever low paid and taking so much BS.
I’m so happy you were able to find a job where you are truly happy with. I understand where you are coming from. I’m currently at my first DA job and struggling with it, so I’m hoping I can find a place where I feel better at
Girl leave, there is soo much work for us right now, you can find a place where atleast the dentist you work with appreciates you, as a DA you do so much work and its not fair you are worth sooo much more and don't let any dr or manager rule your moods and state of mind you deserve just as much respect as they. Hope you make the change in your live to better you, not anyone else
I’m a dental assistant for 25 years and recently transitioned into real estate property management/realtor But I swear I miss my crew at the dental office we was family ❤😢
Same thing happened to me I left the office The dentist was not understanding I didn’t fit there , it’s been 4 months , I really want to go back to dental assisting but I’m a little scared 😣
There’s drama and negativity at every dentists office. Just because normally they hire young girls straight out of high school and college and honestly it’s just a bratty profession lol
Your situation with your old job is exactly what I went through. It’s amazing how similar it is. I was going through the exact same thing at a Obgyn as a Medical Office Assistant. It was exactly like high school, so I left after being only a extern there. The manager didn’t like and wanted to wait to hire me for less money. I’m so glad that I left, even though I’m still looking for that perfect career. Thank you for you video and experiences. So glad to see a person feel the same as me about things. 🙏🏼
where do they pay 10$😳 thats crazy i get 35$ an hour in CA my dentist buys the figs scrubs any scrubs we want and also the benefits wow texas is so different then CA im glad im in cali
Yes well I think it has alot do too with the cost of living in your state as well xD cali is SUPPER expensive 😳 Austin is headed that way but we’re not there yet cx but I’m glad that those cali dentists are treating you do mighty fine 😏❤️
Thank you for your inspiration. What a blessing! I am currently waiting for a call back from a dentist office i had an interview with Friday. Though i really want the position, i know the decision is God's, i too pray to find a job where the employees can relate to my beliefs! What an atmosphere 🙌
Amen! On my cover letter attached to my resumé, I wrote that I am an active church memeber and I think that’s why they chose me so fast bc I shared their beliefs. Try putting something like that on your cover letter and it’ll set the stage for you to find an amazing employer!! Of course God will do most of the heavy lifting for you ;) 💕 praying for you!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@MelanieLunaDiaz omg!! You are so welcome! It's so funny that you responded today bc I literally just applied for a new job this morning and about an hour later @ around 8am they called me back after reviewing my application AND cover letter! And I really hope I get it bc I need it 😅😊. But yes, God ALWAYS knows what is best for you and for everyone else, he just works in mysterious ways sometimes... sometimes it just takes a while for us to understand that 💜 💕💕
Jessica oh wow! If they called you back that quick, it MUST BE A GOOD SIGN! I’m praying it will be the right office for you!! ☺️☺️ and yes, I agree sometimes even when things are tough and you go through some chiz, God is still there with you and ALWAYS has your best interest at heart ❤️
So glad I found this video! I’ve been working as both Front & Back office assistant for almost 5 years now at my office. Honestly , it’s really overwhelming. I do have back office help but when I’m working front I’m all by myself ! I just needed something to reassure me that I’m still in a pretty descent field , Trying to get my RDA now too ! Hopefully make more money that way and add some spice to my career 😭
This is my first time watching one of your videos and loved you instantly!! New subscriber :) I am a dental assistant that is going through the same thing. I hate my job, the pay is trash and it isnt fair. I am moving to another state in a few months, so i am hoping that i find something better. Im super happy for you and glad you did not settle.
Thanks for the info .. I'm currently a dental assistant student and hopefully I will be able to find something just like you! Mon- Fri and pay pretty good.. Good luck with your new job 👍🏼😊
@@sarahmarie9612 Hey! I actually don't start school until September 28th😁.. I should have said that...lol.. But when I get to that topic, I will probably be asking you for tips😊👍🏼😁...
I've been working as a dental assistant for about 1 and a half years already. My first pay was $11.50 but then I recently got a $2.50 raise in the summer. I really like working at the dentist and I have a lot of experience with working multiple different things like implants, extractions, fillings, crowns, root canals, and etc. But the work environment there is alright. I don't really feel like my coworkers like me working there at all because they always are talking about other people behind their backs so they probably do that to me, ya know? I always feel like I'm in the background because nobody tries to talk to me and when I try to talk to them, it's always short and small talk. One of the reasons why I am staying to work at the dentist I work at is because I could possibly work as a Dental Hygienist once I finish my school year but my coworkers are toxic and I don't even know what to do.
Being in a environment as a dental assistant are soooooo MEAN; I definitely will like to be in the team of create a different culture or mentality and be more nice to help new beginners...
I am literally going through that same situation in my home town. I had to quit this Friday because I could not handle the toxicity at work and how I was spoken to. I felt I was not trained right what I learned from school in comparison to this place.. up until two weeks ago the other DA all of a sudden was on her P and Qs about everything and made me look like the worst because I didn’t do everything when all along she trained me completely wrong
I live in Chicago( don't need to be RDA), I started getting pay $10.00. After 6 months, I started looking for new offices. Other offices were starting me at $14-15. BUT LET ME TELL YOUUU. I Came back to my first office within a week!!! because sometimes no matter how much other doctors pay you, they are so gross and insensible that its impossible to feel comfortable working with people like that. When I can back my Dr.(first office)He started paying me $13.00 But I'm still looking for that peaceful office environment and great pay! Enhorabuena, me alegra mucho que tu lo hayas logrado! Enjoy!
Wow when you were describing your new office I was like, does she work with me and I don’t know it?! 😂 So nice when you find a great place like that. I’m a hygienist and it took me 3 years to find the right place
Girl we literally have the same experience! I’m at an Endodontic office as well and I love it and the doctor is just as great as yours! Glad you found a great office 💓
Can anyone give me some info on dental school, pediatric dentistry, and general dentistry. Thank you so so much because it my dream to become a dentist. When I was younger I had some serious traumatic experiences with the dentist and if you want to know just ask. But I want to make a difference in the world and make people feel safe at the dentist. I know some people are scared of the dentist and I want to make them less scared and feel calmer and enjoy going to the dentist. When I was younger I said I’d never want to be a dentist. Yet here I am now saying now it’s my dream😊. If anyone has advice or info or anything please let me know. Thank you 😊 love this vid it explains so much.
Awe man, wish I could help /.\ that is such a good reason on why you want to become one! You’ll make a great dentist!! It sucks that you had a traumatic experience though :( bhut I’m glad to hear you overcame it!!!! 🥳🙌🏽🥳🙌🏽
Melanie Luna-Diaz aww thank you so so much. I feel like people are scared of the dentist for reasons but that is the reason I was scared when I was little but I’m definitely not scared anymore😊. I just don’t want anyone else to have to experience the same thing that happened to me
Omg I’m going through the same thing!! I thought my DR was great but he’s shown some true colors, he can be rude and makes me feel dumb and I’m only 3 months in but really 2 since first month we were slow and I would come every other day... I want to do orthodontics 😭 I loved the video haha lmk if they hiring asking for a friend 🤣
I wanted to be a dental hygienist. But decided not to go that route do to physical problems and I’m starting to not be a fan of being bent over doing tedious work as I am a lash tech/esthetician. Dental hygiene is good pay but over time half of your paycheck goes to medical bills and that’s not something I want. I also don’t think I want to be a an assistant because the pay is crap for dealing with total BS.
What should I doo, so I got hired a this office. And they made me think I’ll assist the doctors but they hired me just to be with the hygienist (which are super sweet) but I don’t do anything special.. all I do is sterilize, referrals and help clean the rooms. They said that’ll be my position and I kinda of hate it. I want to go to a new office but I don’t ha experience with doctors and the procedures.. it was already super hard to find a job in the first place In my area cause no one wants to train
Awe :c well I say stick with that job for a few, ask if you can atleast shadow the assistants with the doctors so that you can atleast get some experience. And then once you feel a lil more comfy, start looking for new jobs. If I were you, I would be applying to new jobs while still being at that current job
I know this is an old video but I started a new job with no experience in a general office. They started me off at $14/hr but it’s my 3rd day and I’ve got some hands on experience Lately but feeling so damn discouraged. Some people make comments about me not knowing stuff even though I went to school, I want to learn to be okay with it because it’s going to happen everywhere..I just want to not be hard on myself because they are training me but I need some motivation to not quit 😭😂
I see a lot of people saying they don’t like the dentists 😬😬😬 makes me want to stay in my office because they’re all super nice to work with. It’s just the ONE coworker that is super rude and hypocritical.
Thanks! And awe I’ve heard that nurses are rude too .-. But I’m starting to think that’s just a common thing in healthcare bc it’s such a high pressure job ... but I’ll be praying you find the right place for you 🙌🏽☺️🙏🏽
Wow, I definitely think God sent me to this video so I don’t give up. I recently just left my job because the dentist was pretty disrespectful, and am currently looking for another office. You just reminded me to have faith and know that it will come. Thank you so much! I am so happy for you just from watching this video. I hope you continue to love this office and learn so much in endo! 😊
Thank you for giving me perspective on this. I’m a cosmetologist and I’m about to make the career change to being a dental assistant Because I want to be able to know how much I’m making and have good benefits and be in a more professional environment
Same here! I am an esthetician & I am realizing it is not for me, I want that 9-5 holidays off & good benefits. I wish I thought about everything before I hopped into it.
training year 1. i hate it. i have everything about it. considering finishing for a good safety net because the pay here is pretty ok but i want more out of life.
Omg my first office started me off at 12 she was Soo mean gave me anxiety but her husband was nice. I was working with her more so 3months in I left went to a office closer I started off at 13 then two months later got the lead and a dollar raise
Worked in a toxic environment on and off for about 6 years as a DA husband and wife office both dentists and let me tell you I wish my 22 year self was wiser and stronger because I was I put threw some stuff every time I’d leave they would ask me to come back I would be supposably to fill in for a week or so then they would ask me to come back and work for them me being young and dumb would agree I would think well they just really like me or see potential in me if they keep asking me to return no that’s not it at all I was just easily manipulated not knowing there was maybe better people out there i could be working for long story short the guy dr threw tantrums like he was 3 and was almost 50 his wife believed everyone should be high energy bubbly and know every single detail about every single patient all way down to there pets name if you didn’t talk enough that was not ok. Long story short I finally got away my co worker got away the other assistant and the lady Drs brother front office got away. They will never have good employees like us 3 for the rest of there lives. They know it too. I forgave them but I don’t forget. For all young assistants starting out don’t deal with bullshit and know your worth leave immediately if the environment shows a hint of toxicity.
I’m about to be 3 years working as a dental assistant and I’m still getting paid $13 😢
I work so much and I’m tired of it!
I recently applied to a different office and they want to interview me this Thursday coming up so wish me luck please 🥺 I hope I get this job 🤞🏼
13 an hour?!
That's so low. I just got out of school few months ago but we get paid at least $20 starting.
Alexandria Nguyen I think every state varies depending on their cost of living
@@mariaTorres-lc9rl yes I know, which isn't fair to all these hard working individuals.
Good luck ! I can’t wait to find one that fits me too 😭
That’s so low! Good luck girl! I’m making $18 barely been an assistant for a year now
Did dental assisting for 5 years.
I agree with you 🥺 other da’s seem so mean 🥴
Im thinking about doing that also
How did you become a dental lab tech? Is there like programs for it?
Thank you in advance.
how do you become a dental lab tech
Same
im so sorry that happened to you. My first dental office was a general dentist the worst too but i got out now and in better dental place! It's periodontist office.
Keep searching where you found peace at work
Yeah girl same. Im on a whole different journey now. Cloud computing with AWS. Dentistry sucks . For me it did. Too much disrespect
Goodluck and God bless you. You will do great things. Just stick it out.
same here you are not lone. it was horrible!
Honestly I’ve been so blessed to find an amazing office. Others on here are saying how they’ve worked in terrible offices but I’ve been a RDA for a year and I love the doctors I work for and my coworkers. Hope everyone finds a office they feel comfortable in 💕
I’m glad you found a place that actually is positive and people that are nice asf.❤️😭 hopefully in the future I could find that.
Keep searching and you will 💕💕💕 and thank you ☺️
Dental offices are a business and the main person profiting is the dentist. Dental assistants will never be adequately compensated for their hard work they do.
Agree!
NOT $10 DOLLARS!!! Girl as a dental assistant, DON’T ACCEPT ANY LESS THAN $16 bc it’s a lot of work for $10
Yes you are right
I started at 10.50 too.
It's the same in Germany we don't get paid what we really deserve
Joycelyn Jackson it really isn’t fair. We really are considered professionals too! We went to school and got certified. Yet some ppl work at target as cashier and they get paid more than a dental assistant. I don’t understand why we get underpaid.
Need to come to australia for a decent pay😅
DA's NEVER EVER accept low wages . DO NOT ACCEPT A STARTING WAGE LOWER THAN $ 20.00 A HOUR .
What if you have an RDA and the Dr doesn't want to pay you more, im asking bc i have a friend in that situation
If DA's keep accepting low wages these dentists will keep paying low wages . " STARTING " PAY SHOULD BE $ 20 .00 A HOUR NO LESS .
@@MelanieLunaDiaz I'm planning to go into hygiene in a couple of years as well!
@@Zzz_rose Same!
It's just a more fast-paced setting and sometimes you travel with the team but they pay for your gas and maintenance of your car!
dental assistants unite 💙 this was so relatable in so many ways. glad you found your happy place!
I’ve seen and heard how the dentists treat and speak to their assistants. I didn’t understand.
I just started 😭 and I never feel so dumb
How are you being treated at the job ? I’m so afraid of becoming an assistant. I’m studying dentistry but considering going to the US to work as an assistant for the time being. I’m just so afraid I forget everything and the dentist won’t be kind🥹
👏 👏 👏 they didn't even interview you, that's so nice. 20 an hour is what they should of started you at. Dentist are assholes, but I'll be an asshole right back. Don't let these dentist take advantage of you women. You guys need to speak up and demand 20 an hour minimum. Going to any type of school needs to have a return on investment.
Hey were you a dental assistant too? I’m a guy and I want to be one but I don’t see many guys that are dental assistants
YES finally a man in the comments speaking the truth! We need to stop allowing this and stand up for ourselves and form unions
@@ReturnOfMac I went to dental assisting academy of the palm beaches
@@pearlh1051 it's hard work. I have been a surgical assistant for a while now. Now I'm already tired of the pay, so I'm teaching myself to be a software engineer.
Girl, 10 an hour? And here I am complaining that I got started at 16 coming fresh out of school 😂😂😂 glad you found a better job
Lol thanks xD and yup! Count your blessings when you have them :P but if 16 still isn’t enough, keep searching for that higher paying job 😏😏
Right I started off at $14 which was a huge pay cut from my food and Bev job, but I knew it would be worth while to get into my dream field while doing school. Definitely counting my blessings.
Right I started at $15 and it still feels on the low end
DA's NEVER EVER accept low wages . DO NOT ACCEPT A STARTING WAGE LOWER THAN $ 20.00 A HOUR . IT IS UP TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT THAT DA IS A CAREER NOT JUST A JOB .
Same!!! Started at 16 fresh out of school and quit after a month for a higher paying office bc 16 was too low lol
You will get there... keep faith!
how much do you get paid now
I work in the dental field and I kinda relate.
17.50 with no degree? You’re actually lucky. I was getting paid $10.50/hr. Where are you from if you don’t mind me asking
Melissa Moctezuma I’m from Cincinnati, OH. 🙂 but my job is in KY.
(according to the DA’s)
He really liked my retracting and suction skills.
OMG!! Yesss!! 😅😅🙇♀️👏 so true
Right on! More people should think like this 😊
As soon as you mentioned God I subscribed❤️
Amen
Oh wow I just did the same thing! ❤️
Amen 🎚🦷 we have to think look at how much that they are making for each treatment $1,000’s in a day... they can Pay a good salary even to newbies.....!
I started at 12 an hour at this recent place I'm working I've been for 2 years still getting $16 an hour but I love where I work 🙄❤️
That was God! He absolutely worked out this situation for you He is so awesome Glory be to Yahshua forever!
I'm also a Christian, married young, Latina and dental nurse ( we say dental nurse in the UK)
Seeing comments you guys get paid super good. The highest over here is 13 per hour equivalent to 16$
Sounds really good you guys get up to 20$!
God bless you 💕🥰❤️😁🦷
Wow, praising God with you! 👏 😭
I’m in dental assisting, 2nd semester, & really struggling w/ the learning process. Pray for me sis!
I’ve been working at my office for 6 months now and I feel like this video was a sign for me to apply at a different office! The doctor is mean and will yell at me for things that aren’t my fault and I feel like bc I’m new there... also I only get paid 11. And the assistants are not helpful at all.
I’m starting my internship and it’s been so hard! The dentist is really special and I feel so dumb sometimes
Youre not alone girl. We got this , dont let the doctor make you feel any type of way. Doctors are so harsh and forget we all start somewhere.
The most bad part of this job is cleaning of spit area is very embarrancing
It’s been a week since I left dental assisting I’m now in pharmacy technician and is studying to do lash technician as my sideline ahaaah.
I just didn’t like dental assisting as much as I love helping patients. There’s not a lot of dentist that are nice. I ended up with this dentist that made me do procedures I have no knowledge and told him that ahead but looks like he doesn’t give a shit and made me look stupid infront of the patient. I was the only assistant office too and he doesn’t even have a CDA or hygienist. I barely ate lunch which made me half brain dead tbh and I was like my health is more important
So yeah I believe God also have me signs that dental asssiting isn’t for me
If you really enjoy treating patients I would suggest looking into becoming a dental hygienist schooling is doable pay is good and the preventative side of dentistry is very rewarding.
I’m a dental assistant for 25 years and recently transitioned into real estate property management/realtor
But I swear I miss my crew at the dental office we was family ❤😢
Same thing happened to me I left the office The dentist was not understanding I didn’t fit there , it’s been 4 months , I really want to go back to dental assisting but I’m a little scared 😣
There’s drama and negativity at every dentists office. Just because normally they hire young girls straight out of high school and college and honestly it’s just a bratty profession lol
I work at an amazing dental office with an amazing team! I feel so blessed 💗
wow where i live, after 2 years of schooling i can expect a starting wage of $27 as an rda
where do they pay 10$😳 thats crazy i get 35$ an hour in CA my dentist buys the figs scrubs any scrubs we want and also the benefits wow texas is so different then CA im glad im in cali
Yes well I think it has alot do too with the cost of living in your state as well xD cali is SUPPER expensive 😳 Austin is headed that way but we’re not there yet cx but I’m glad that those cali dentists are treating you do mighty fine 😏❤️
Also working in dental makes you see how sketchy doctors are! Most of them only care about money and don’t care about their patients’ health!
Thank you for your inspiration. What a blessing! I am currently waiting for a call back from a dentist office i had an interview with Friday. Though i really want the position, i know the decision is God's, i too pray to find a job where the employees can relate to my beliefs! What an atmosphere 🙌
Yesss!! God ALWAYS answers them prayers 😁😁💕 I'm so happy for you 🎉🎉 I wish you and everyone else all the best!! 💜💜💜
Btw thank you!! 🙈💕🙈🙈💕🙈💕🙈💕
I love how you know God had a hand in your experience! He did the same for me with exceeding my expectations 😊. 🙏🏾 Bless you!
So happy your found a great fitting office! Been doing assisting for awhile now and yes, it's great when you find your People!!!
Praying you find one like me too!! Its mon-thurs :3 and thank you so much girl ^.^
@@MelanieLunaDiaz Thanks 🥰👍🏼.. that would be ideal for me 🙏.. I will definitely keep you posted!😁
Im a dental assistant student too!!! Do you have any tips on how to remember the tooth numbering system??
When one door closes another one opens I know God will have better plans for you good luck 👍:)
Enjoy!
Melanie God will use this video to help others in the dental field. Your a blessing.
really considering this career although with second thoughts :/ but your videos have helped a lot. thank you! 💕💕
Wow when you were describing your new office I was like, does she work with me and I don’t know it?! 😂
So nice when you find a great place like that. I’m a hygienist and it took me 3 years to find the right place
Girl we literally have the same experience! I’m at an Endodontic office as well and I love it and the doctor is just as great as yours! Glad you found a great office 💓
omg what. starting in Alberta, Canada like fresh out of school is $24...this is insane hearing this
Right?? I was bummed out that I was started at $21/hour for my first gig!
$10/hour?? That's criminal!
$10/hr even for someone with zero dental experience is upsetting :(
I'm sorry you had that experience!
I just don’t want anyone else to have to experience the same thing that happened to me
Melanie Luna-Diaz and it’s ok things happen but I’m glad I won’t have to go through that again.
And I’m here leaving the restaurant business after 10 years
Thank you! You encouraged me to look for another office. What part of Texas you live in?
Yesss!!! 🙌🏽 and don’t stop until it’s everything you wanted ^.^ and I live in the southeast part, kinda close to Austin
I love your videos! I’m currently in school for dental asst and this video was so inspiring 😇. Congratulations on your New Job🎉!!
Thank you ! 🤗 and I hope you end up enjoying it as much as I did :D
That's awesome that you love this job!! I hope you have many happy years there!!
THANK YOU! 🥺💕
I think it takes time to fine the right job just like the right man it should feel like perfect fit❤
I see a lot of people saying they don’t like the dentists 😬😬😬 makes me want to stay in my office because they’re all super nice to work with. It’s just the ONE coworker that is super rude and hypocritical.
I'm still in school but I'm scared to be kicked out onto the deep end and be in an office that I hate
Oh man! This is a great motivator not to stay in one place and keep striving for better. I have to ask, if your new job at a chain or is it private?
Ahhhh so happy for you!!! I keep praying that I will find the right Doctor and dental office for me 🤗🤗🤗
Ask and you shall receive 💕 You’ll find one in the right time!! 🙏🏽💕🙏🏽😊
Aw I’m glad you found the right workplace for you I’m taking cna classes and I’m scared the nurses are going to be rude 😂
I just finished watching your “The Negatives of Dental Assisting” video and I got depressed. I’m so glad you left…
Thank you for giving me perspective on this. I’m a cosmetologist and I’m about to make the career change to being a dental assistant Because I want to be able to know how much I’m making and have good benefits and be in a more professional environment
Omg same!! I went through cosmetology school and I decided it wasn’t really what I wanted so now I’m debating on going to school for dental assisting.
