  • A specialist wood carving carpenter making a handle and sheath for a decorative golok machete. This wood shop is just around the corner from the AMW blacksmiths seen in Part 1. This is part 2 of the series, "Blacksmiths making Goloks in Central Java." Originally it was meant to be only 2 videos, but due to the larger file size, we have had to break this up into 3 separate videos. Our next upload will be back at the AMW shop and will focus on the detailed decoration of the sheath and tiger head handle. Golok is the Indonesian work for machete. “Pandai besi” means blacksmith. We have many more blacksmith knife making videos at Bush Channel.
    The address of the AMW blacksmith is Karangasem Village, Bantul, near Yogyakarta City. The English speaking guide at 1:16 is Christian from Vogels Hostel. Vogels is a highly recommended place to stay in the mountain village of Kaliurang on the slopes of Mt Merapi. Christian and his nephew Aldrin own Vogels. You'll see Aldrin in Part 1 of the series.
    We have other golok videos coming soon!

      Thanks Steven. In the next episode you’ll see the carpenter pull out all his various carving chisels to do the decoration and then the AMW Blacksmiths from episode 1 finishing it off by burning the tang into the handle.

    Legal. Muita arte envolvida na construção de um cabo usando ferramentas não tão tecnologicas quanto as usadas por norteamericanos. Fantástico.

    At least the home fabricated Bandsaw had less vibration and was perhaps of finer quality than HARBOR FREIGHT's. Not so the metal shavings and superglue( Cyanoacrylate) to fill in handle to tang voids. Regrettably, after all that handwork, makes it a wall hanger for me. If I visit, I might just bring my own tubes of DEVCON 5 minute Epoxy and JB WELD. Interesting video.

      Tatang Supriyatna ..... sorry .... the machete will not considered the best ... if it didn't pass the tampering proses.
      Most Asian blade maker don't do the tampering proses. They only do the hardening.

    The blade on the recip saw is upside down, it should cut on the down stroke which pulls it against the table, on the upstroke no cut , so it doesn't vibrate the wood up and down.

    • @Bushchannel
      @Bushchannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I reckon it is cutting on the down stroke, but the blade has to go back up between strokes.

    • @jerrydc818
      @jerrydc818 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe that would only work if the blade was only moving in one direction

    Адский станок для выпиливания. Чтобы на таком работать, нужны железные руки и лазерный глазомер. Чуть зазевался и рук как не бывало.
