Battlefield 1 Why is this in the game?

- OMG SO MUCH SKILL **UGHHHHH**. Seriously though why is this crap in the game. Pickup weapons in BF4 were a bit silly but at least you were still at the same health and armor as you spawn in with. With SWBF's Hero Classes they couldn't regenerate or get healed outside of the Heroes vs Villains game mode. So why is it we now have Elite Classes in BF1 with absurd armor and health that can be resupplied and healed?
I'll rephrase the title question for those who are curious about the real point I'm trying to make. What is missing or what did the game lack that made DICE decide that Elite Classes needed to be in the game?
Also is that an added bloom effect to the view of Elite Classes?

dice designed the elite classes to be able to have a chance at playing against Ravic
Exactly the problem, they are there to lower the skill ceiling of general infantry and make it possible for even a terrible person to get kills if they camp the sentry kit spawns. Even when you are playing great if you run into a villa perosa guy at close range you have no chance even if he is terrible. It is fun the first couple times to use it but then it just seems dumb and easy. I have similar feelings for the heavy tank. In older battlefield games things weren't made quite as easy for you. The tank starts with nearly the best shit in this game.

funny thing is, this thing should be firing 50 rounds. since both magazines where supposed to have 25 rounds a piece. I was wondering how 2 mags in game held 25 rounds...then I thought about balance issues...and then it made sense.

I feel like they would like it more if it hadn't been so casualized so much. autospotting in close range, RNG bullet spread, majorly buffed hipfire across the board, buffed suppression, elite pickups, behemoths, skippable spawn timer, etcetc... Really takes away from what made previous battlefield games stay engaging for long periods of time.

Besides, im sure no one will mind elite classes once their balance is nailed. Plus, unlike CoD support streaks you have to be good with elite classes or you will die quickly (under the assumption the enemies know your elite classes weakness(s) like flame trooper being very vulnerable to melee for example). Simply saying its targeted at CoD newbs is kind of false and really rude. I mean, bf4 had a battle pickup system in the game with unique weapons (rocket launchers, rail gun, riot shield, grenade launchers, .50 cal's, etc.) so its kinda dumb to say elite classes cater to weaker players when in reality while its easy to get kills with elite classes, weaker players will die faster using these pickups than the stronger more experienced players that are knowledgeable of the class's weaknesses and strengths. By the way, your no better than a CoD player calling people the n word for ruining his killstreak by being an elitist douchebag like your comment clearly preaches.

TubbyTimmy i havent played CoD in at least four years. Bad Company 2, the most uncasual bf game i have played and imo the best one (ive played bc2, bf3, bf4, watched footage of bf1 on youtube and twitch) is what got me into this series. Im actually frustrated at bf3 and bf4 having played them for having absurd balancing issues and handholding noobs. Just because i played one CoD (it was actually a good CoD game, not one of the bunnyhopping ones like CoD AW ie) game and then stopped playing CoD doesnt necessarily mean im destroying this series. What im more shocked of is the sheer lack of medics supporting people using elite kits. Thats tons of free points and near guaranteed point caps for both people. In almost all the clips I see of elite units they almost never get supported by any medics unless its someone on voip.

Pickup weapons fit WW1 better than pickup classes, tanks couldn't even stop a sniper round in WW1, you expect me to believe that tiny plate of armour is realistically stopping 7 sniper rounds to the face or 2-4 armour peircing rounds to the face?
It's super easy to kill elite class players. All you need to do is pop them with an AT rocket, melee them in the back or bayonet charge them, or catch them in a building with gas. You can even light them up with small arms fire if you have enough people. The kids you're fighting have no clue how to counter it, simple as that.
Btw, as a side note, you could be using less bullets to kill people with the Villar Perosa. The thing is accurate as hell, suprisingly, and you can feather it a bit more.
Yes the Elite Classes can be taken out if you know what to do however you can also counter those things while playing as the Elite Class if you know of those weaknesses. The real point though is why were they put into the game? What was missing or what did the game lack that made them decide that they needed to add these Elite Classes to Battlefield 1?

I honestly think it was an attempt to appeal to a wider audience by offering unique and fun shit to do. You can't deny that bf1's combat is more varied than bf4's combat.I was able to convince non-battlefield players to purchase it, who I'd tried for years to convince to buy bf4.
Elite classes are definitely OP when someone who knows what they're doing gets them, but they really don't enter normal combat often enough for me to be annoyed with them, and I've never really encountered one that could dodge an AT rocket. I want Dice to focus on map balance and the types of combat you experience most often.
if the elite classes wouldn't be able to recover health in any way they would be way more fair... but then nobs wouldn't have fun playing them... battlefield has become noob friendly I don't like that

jsf zephyr ravic has health and ammo dropped from teammates. in any regular quickplay game you wouldnt have that at all. this video is a well planned video to showcase elites max potential... this is not normally how it works out lol
Maybe it's just ytubers running into terrible players all the time. I do well with the elites for 2-3 kills then a wall of bullets pancake my health, plus elites can't regenerate so it doesn't help that medic don't medic.

I think a lot of it boils down to that they wanted to make a battlefield game that still appeals to a casual audience like battlefront did, which is why they have things like elite classes and the behemoths.
No, they wanted to make a unique experience. Every thing in this game that seems overpowered has a hard counter, it's just not set up in a way that's easy to know what those counters are. Lots of counters involve teamwork, which is a new concept to many people, apparently.

No Battlefield hasn't always been casual friendly. Trying to get my friends to play Battlefield 2 back in the day was impossible, it was too much for them. It was when they rebooted the franchise on the Frostbite engine with BC1 that changes were made and have continuously been made to make it more and more casual. So as you said BF3 and BF4 would give some the "cod feeling" however BF1 continues that even further. With BF2, BF3, BF4 there were ways to show skill or other ways to make the game fun for those that weren't casual players ( vehicle launching, shenanigans, etc. ). BF1 is missing those two elements.

I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the players that like these kinds of features and what type of gamer/player they are. I think Ravic is so good because he never hesitates he just sees something and pulls the trigger.. I can aim well and do things that he does but I never pull the trigger fast enough
the villa perosa super tank is absurd. been saying it for a while. a 3 shot smg while the other one is an hmg welding superman that needs 20 bullets to kill a person. kinda unbalanced. this whole game is so casual it hurts. bf4 at least had some semblance I of skill required. just give us aimbots and wall hacks and this game is finished.

@Ravic Pretty sure DICE wasn't thinking of Rival Gaming level players when they put these classes in. They were most likely thinking of players who may get 5-10 kills if they are lucky or die very fast as there is nobody paying enough attention to support them with health/ammo.
When by myself, I'll normally get 0-5 kills due to no support. When I'm streaming, usually got buddies with me like you do, and whoever gets the kit, we always feed the beast.
This is why you don't give ravic an even scarier boom stick

I hardly have any problems with the elite classes. Ravic you're a skilled player so you know how easy it is to strafe around and bayonet charge them. Flame troopers or the sentry kits, it's so easy to bayonet. Also the sentry has no protection against gas which can kill them very quickly if it's spammed
Consider if a player knows all the way to kill someone using the Elite Class they they also know how to counter those weaknesses.

incendiary grenades destroy their health like a regular infantry class, leaving them at 15hp or a charred corpse unable to be revived. Even idiots know to martyrdom their grenade to be an asshole so on certain maps I don't even care about picking up elite classes.

Did you know that the audio files for BF1 contain audio for use with Commander Mode? I feel like that confirms that DICE shoved this shit out the fucking door before they had completely determined how they wanted it to play.

It's in the game, because Dice doesn't give a fuck about competitive aspect of this game. Even BF4 was a casual game, but still somewhat skillful and competitive. This trash is 100% casual, they made this game to look awesome (total war, huge maps, explosions, elite classes omg omg) and to bring more people, not to encourage old bf players to stick with the franchise. For me battlefield died when bf1 came out. It's basically the same as battlefront. I played over 1300h in bf4 and over 500h in bf3, but saddly - no more.

When you stop and think, it does 23 damage max with each barrel, so 46 max up close at 900 rpm, it does less damage per second than the K10 did at lauch in Hardline.
2 guns tied to one trigger, my question is, reloading with 2 in the chamber should give a max ammo to 26 right? an AR with a 30 round mag, with one in the chamber comes out to be 31. so if you have 2 chambers and you reload with the 2 shouldent you get 26??

Adam Shuey I think Battlefield 1 is a lot funnier and the maps are a lot less bland/boring (plus levelution and melee is a lot more involving) but I prefer a lot of BF4 features that are absent in BF1.

the Villar pirosa was a gun that was used on planes for the gunner, not to carry around on foot. DICE really needs to fix this game
I feel like DICE added these Elite Classes for two reasons. One so that people who aren't the best at Battlefield have a chance of getting kills and the second reason being that DICE wanted to show some different tactics and weaponary of WW1. Like with the flame-thrower how it is a unique and rare weapon in the war along with tank hunters and the Battlefront Hero token system was really the best way they could do it.

The amount of overshooting you do in this video is ridiculous. You're putting like 4-5 extra bullets into almost everyone you kill, fully emptying the magazines when you don't need to. Could have been waay more efficient.

Dros Well you dont have to reload everytime you shot a couple times or have a few bullets, should just shot the rest at the enemy.
My buddy never seemed to get a positive kd until one day I supplied him medkits while he ran around with this kit. Too OP for sure.
I hate flame troops the most because they can be the hardest to deal with if they are supported by a team since they are immune to fire and gas and trying to charge them will usually result in his mates shooting you. I personally think the Tank Hunter is probably the best implemented since it is powerful, but is easy to kill so if you do manage to surprise him you can usually win preventing him from being able to singlehandedly win the game... Sentries aren't too bad if he's in a building and you gas him to death, but otherwise can be super frustrating to fight.
The pickup classes are not that overpowered, you just need to know how to take them down. Which is easy... -.-

They're fine, tanks that don their job don't last very much, as everyone tries to damage It, even with frags(i use k bullets too when i recon) as i said i hate people who Camp in their tank just for the kdr. I bet those people don't even know how to switch gun or how to use the select Fire on certain guns
Many people only go for a good kdr, which is sad. I am often like top 3 in a 64 slot server with like 18 kills, but i have a lot of points, since i took flags and so on :D

They are so easy to kill tho. And most people don't know how to use the Elite classes and end up dying right away. So whether they are in the game or not wouldn't make a difference. They are fun to use tho.

Iunno, Elite classes are such a big target that you're usually killed once you do a semi-decent amount of damage to the enemy anyway. And they're hella fun to use. I wonder what it would be like if they were in Hardcore.... nah, that would be ridiculous.
It's in the game I think because what happens to normal people is that we take that kit and we instantly get flooded with bayonete charges and bombs fly like is 4th of july, planes fall on your head, tanks run you over and so on. With godly players such as youtself, seems like youre imortal or something...but it's in fact very vulnerable and makes you an instant target. Normal people just kill 1~10 people and get blown to kingdom come. (At least I do.)
I'm guessing the elite kits were designed to be one-person battering rams for spearheading assaults or defending objectives. As someone who used to be turned off by the elite kits but now likes them, I just think of them as vehicles in infantry form. They terrorize infantry but can be ganged up through focus fire or 1HKO'd through intelligent play
That said, I hope BF1944 makes a return to battle pickups. Can you imagine a MG42 Sentry?

Also I think they added the sentry so normal players can experience destroying people for once, you wouldn't understand seeing how it just seems to be the norm for you
My ocd kicked when I realized that the gun has 2 clips but only 25 bullets meaning one has more than the other

I recommend all bf1 players to play hardcore playlist with HUD disabled.
I played a lot of beta, but didn't bother buying th game until Christmas for the sales. I have not been bothered to play much bf1 as I wasn't feeling it for whatever reason.
fired it up on the 18th and thought I'd look for the HC servers, then I decided to disable the HUD. Totally changed the game for me, immersion is the best I've seen from a game this way. You have to watch your fire as friendly fire is on . The rifles actually kill people without health regeneration been an issue as I'm rubbish at head shots.
Definitely worth trying for the older generation of battlefield players.
Gas the elite classes and bayonet the flamethrower. Easy to kill them unless your team sucks.
i loved hunting down elite class campers with the at rocket gun. seeing them run away trying to survive was awesome before they got blown up
Elite classes are great for Ellis attackers break dead locks in rush. It makes the game type more interesting.
While these kill streaks are ridiculous, I will say that to be fair Battlefield 1918 also had special pickup kits that added body armor, and yes you could still heal at a medical crate there as well. On the other hand, I am pretty sure the body armor in BF1918 only lowered the damage to the point of you surviving a shot or 2 at most, so you still could not go Rambo with it.
The elite classes are fine on War Pigeons, but on Conquest they are absolutely ridiculous and it's easy to last a whole round as one.
it's even better when you pick up a medic class and have armour plating plus the ability to heal.
Calling all first responders, we have a heavily armoured badass on the loose with what appears to be a primitive super machine gun.
The way to deal with elite classes, exploit their weaknesses and they are not overpowered. The armored sentries cant protect themselves from gas damage, and die quickly from it. They also can be stabbed from behind to kill them instantly, which is risky. The biggest counter to sentries is just shooting them with one shot from the at rocket gun, it kills any sentry instantly.
I suspect they noticed a huge influx of casual players with the introduction of Star Wars and they had to give them something shiny to hook them on to BF1.
I suspect it's for the same reasons we have the bayonet charge, the current OP bolt action rifles and the insane grenade spam. It's to get casual players a chance to score a kill once in a while and keep them playing (and paying for DLC).
Honestly I never really have a problem with sentry classes, however I think the Villa Perosa may need a slight range nerf. It's like somebody duct taped 2 pre patch FAMAS assault rifles to eachother.
I like the concept of the elite classes but I see your point. they should not be able to heal or be healed but can be resupplied.
Ravic You are way too good to be using this. You should be limited to a Kalibri and large maps only! That way at least some of us have a chance. Haha
fyi: the 08/15 does no damage against airships / tanks etc. it's only the stationary hmg that can dmaage a zeppelin. here you just got lucky in the beginning with killing the gunners out of the gondolas but you did no damage to the airship itself. plus the 08/15 gets MORE accurate with continued fire, which is very unintuitive. but what you'll want to do is keep firing for longer periods of time and avoid those short bursts as the first few bullets have crazy spray...
