- In todays video we check out a custom rear mounted twin turbo setup on a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT 392! Making 720whp on low boost! Yes I misspoke about the motor.
It’s a 2015 SRT 392 and it only came with a forged crank. I plan on swapping out the pistons and rods once we start to go up in power.

I don’t understand how the turbos work in the back. Obviously the exhaust is what spins the turbos but how are you getting the boost back to the motor in the front? And wouldn’t you experience more turbo lag or responsiveness due to the distance the compressed cool air has to cover to get back to the front intercooler? I’m just fascinated by this setup. Truly unique.

So when I first saw it, I was like with all the aero it was made for track and time attacks, but then when he said it was all made of metal, I knew it was for looks.

The 2015 Dodge Challenger does NOT come with forged internals, crank yes, but pistons and rods NO. Stock rods are good to 700 whp but the stock pistons are not dished and have no relief for compression on a boosted setup. The reason the 6.4 makes 500hp stock is because it's a very high compression engine, Nearly 11 to 1. Many people have gotten by on a whipple setup at 6-to 8psi only, but thats pushing it. No more than 6psi is recommended without replacing the pistons and rods..... You honestly might as well just buy a forged, balanced and blueprinted shortblock, they're only about 4k if you exchange your block and with labor and parts..it costs that much to try to install drop in's anyway. I wish this gentleman the best of luck, but he's really flirting with disaster. I happen to know because I've been through this personally, my current setup is a 2015 6.4 Challenger with a Bischoff shortblock, cam, longtubes, and a 10lb whipplecharger.
…..also, can a person keep good fuel efficiency with a turbo? I assume that the tune would mess everything up from that aspect.
@@dumdiversaspapalbull1452 it depends, if you’re running it lean with higher boost, lower compression, and more cubic feet of air, you will achieve more efficiency, hence why new economy cars have turbo chargers. On the flipside, you can give yourself a very rich mixture and fail at that completely.

I have never, ever, ever heard of a 392 that came with forged internals. The 6.1(383?) had a forged crank, but never heard of anything for the 392 from the factory. Maybe he bought it used?
The 6.1 was a 370ci and had a forged crank yes. But the 6.4 doesn't have forged internals that I'm aware of. They can't even handle boost on the stock motor, even under normal driving the pistons melt.
They can take boost but only at low levels. Did a lot of research before I ultimately got rid of my SRT. Around 6 PSI is safe, though I've heard up to 8 is doable. Being in Arizona, going up to 8 would make me nervous.

@@karlhopkins713 Same here. Ultimately led to my decision to get rid of the SRT and get a ZL1. Plenty of bad stories here in AZ of guys getting "too close to the sun" and grenading their 392s. So this guys claim that his year has forged internals makes me think he just doesn't know what he is talking about. No problem, his car. Looks cool I guess, but not my style.
@@IanS158 Yeah my dad's challenger just needs bolt ons. The 1320s with wheels and tires have done 11.3. With headers, a tune, seat delete, wheels and tires they've done 10.7 pulling the wheels. That demon suspension puts in the work.
nice to see someone using that new air cooled CompTurbo. i put a CT on my buddy's Z Nismo but it's water cooled. was nice not having to run oil lines. i'm curious though is he supposed to plug those holes in the middle of the turbo? i thought the water line fittings were missing at first haha

Excuse me if I'm wrong but your "year" did not come with forged internals... none of the 6.4s have forged internals and your ring gap is too tight. The first time you get some hot air in that thing over 6 psi they'll swell and pop the top off your pistons buddy.

Rear mount systems are cool. It's a nice show car and appears right at home @ cars n coffee. All the people shitting their pants over the wing can relax, it will be ok...as long as he double clutches like he should 😇

Can't do it reliably without pistons. Even under normal load, with boost the pistons melt.
