I don't think that Witness was a bad Album, I just think it missed the magic that Teenage Dream and Prism Had. Also, her 6th Album Smile was amazing. It had so much potential but her label ruined it. Big mistake. BIG.
I can't believe walking on air or legendary lovers weren't a single. I wonder how prism era would have been teenage dream 2.0 again if she made those a single.
I remember back in the day there were rumours of Katy preparing a remix of Legendary Lovers featuring Drake. However, it was scrapped after the allegations against Dr. Luke came out. Like, releasing a song produced by him was no longer an available option (same reasons why Katy hasn't work with him ever since). Thus, the PRISM era ended quite abruptly despite her half-time show coming in a few weeks after This Is How We Do had flopped
I’ll never forget California Girls. It was the song of the Summer that year. Every other song on the radio was California Girls. I remember my cousin got so sick of it so I asked her, “Do you not like the song?” and she said, “I love the song, I just hate how overplayed it is!!”
The Teenage Dream era was perfectly executed. The stuff dreams are made of. Prism is a little messy, with Katy obviously loving Unconditionally but the people forcing Dark Horse to be the huge hit instead, for some reason.
She achieved in just a couple of years what many artists spend their whole careers trying to get. And like I tend to say: once a main a pop girl, always a main pop girl. I still wish her the best. Hopefully she can achieve more hits in the future. Like, strangers things have happened chart-wise (like Jason Derulo having a top 10 viral hit in 2020, or the brief comeback of Meghan Trainor in late 2022). If there's anyone who deserves it, it's Katy ✨️
