30 years and it's interesting to spot the Wellington skyline and all that has changed since. Te Papa museum now on the waterfront is a big one. Most of the waterfront apartments/offices in the red brick have come down, earthquake dangers. You just don't realise what a great time capsule a city street race video coverage is.
What's your problem with Mark Skaife, the man worked so hard to get where he did, and he went on to establish a record many would love to claim for themselves. More [power to you Skaifie.
This type of circuit sorts the BMW M3 ideally! The M3,s were a race car made road legal, either 2.3ltr or 2.5ltr later ones four cylinder twin cam 16V they revved to 9000rpm happily all day long, very nimble! The M3 had about 300--320hp! The car i would lest want to drive on that damp track would be the Ford Sierra Cosworth, the non turbo cars would be easier to drive. Wellington City the weather can be very changeable due to being a coastal area next the Cook Straight.
Skaife is a natural commentator. He was just a young kid driver in 92, and he already sounded like he'd been doing it for years.
Is this the race where the commentator yells “Brocky gets sideways - no no no no no” - childhood memories. Was goodtimes growing up in Wgtn back then.
What a start, right when the rain start dumping down.

God, those onboard shots are unreal around this circuit!
So great to hear big Darryl.
"NOTHING'S HAPPENING HERE! DRAMA ALL AROUND!" - Good work Darryl

The M3 2.5 evolution had 350hp plus as they had to keep up with The Mercedes 190 2.5/16 evolution 2 had 370hp
Does that bmw have abs breaking?
De-accelerating? Nice one Darrell. Great Commentary all around.
Have you got the pre 65's support race for this year at Wellington?
Can you upload 1992 Nissan mobil 500 pukekohe-full race and the 1993 Nissan mobil 500 please
I was surprised that the 2 litre Class 2 Super Tourers did not take part in this race as a prep for 1993
Awesome uploads thanks RacingVolt - thanks very much!! Do you have the 1990 Welly and Puke races too?? Also loved the TransAm too - Cheers.
For awhile, I thought the safety car was going to win the race.
Emanuele Pirro, huh? Wonder if he ever went on to anything else... ;)
Pirro is one the most successful Euro drivers, he has done very very in anything he raced!!
Pirro had 37 F1 starts and drove sports cars with success too. Wonderful talent- brilliant driver : one of the best ever
TV3 New Zealand/Channel 9 Australia coverage
John Sax seems to crash into the heroes each time.
A true saxon
Oh, big Daryl Eastlake!
I was there. Awesome day.
Back when touring cars were factory configuration not Sport sedan like these days
Why no GTR’s?
Gibson motorsport retired them after the Grand Prix support races in Adelaide. I guess they wanted to begin focusing on the V8 regulations
Do 1992 Nissan mobil 500 pukekohe - full race next please I will subscribe to you if you do it
Where are the GT-Rs?
The Nissan Mobil series was after the Adelaide GP support races which was the GTR's last appearance.
And I've now lost all respect for Skaife 😂😂😂 Tasmania produces lots of fine sportsmen mate! More per capita than any other state! 😂
Waste of champers
