🤘💀🤘 just seen incubus for my 12th time or so this past summer aug 9 2023. They are such an epic phenomenon. I think they've evolved beautifully as a band with all their music. Real genuine musicians \artists true blues💙!!
This track has always been much weaker live than on the record due to the amount of guitar layering and vocal layering on the record. I honestly can't understand why people are complaining, it's fucking awesome that they have played it again!
Fungus Amongus and SCIENCE depend upon so many layers and samples to achieve their sound, it's understandable that, as Incubus began touring globally and frequently, those songs became less appealing than their recent works, which although still retaining the "sauce" that makes Incubus, were probably much more live-friendly. Brandon Boyd has made comments about not personally enjoying his early vocals, which is another factor. I think the first two Incubus albums are legendary, but from a musician's perspective, they may be better left on the record, where they shine most.
Dirk was definitely more funky, but I would never in a million years say Ben sucks! He's one of the more talented bassists out there as far as technicality goes, and he fits great with the new direction they've gone in. SCIENCE was one of my favorite albums, and Dirk kicks ass, but I think Bens a very talented bassist as well.
i love the way that brought this shit back. i think it is still relevant more than any time now...lyrically. you can tell brandon is for sure feeling it. i mean, they had to bring it back out for a reason. i'm really feeling it. after the first time i listened to it, it sunk in a little better....
At the time of this performance, it wasn't really that old as if it were over 10 years plus, but now would like to see this one play in a setlist next tour. About 20 years old now.
It was a good performance but I don't think it has anything to do with dirk not being there. It was just lacking passion and that same fire. But that is understandable since by this point, musically and personally they've moved on from where they were when they wrote this song. As you get older you tend to relate differently to a lot of things from how you might have done in the past. Their relationship with this song has changed. This is just something I found myself as a songwriter. I don't really relate in the same way to the stuff I wrote when I was 15.
It looked like Mike and Ben were into it. But yes I agree, as a musician myself, over time you grow. The first Incubus I ever listened to was early Incubus and it got me hooked on all Incubus from then on and I even feel the same way about sone of their older songs. You don't relate to the older stuff anymore but to the newer stuff. At least for me. I still relate to the oldies but their more mature records touch on things you can relate to more as an adult while growing and learning as a person. Honestly I think a lot of that "passion" you say they lack could just be Brandon's voice at the time and they probably aren't playing with the distortion on the guitars cranked to 100 like they did back in the G. Still one my top 3 favorite bands. Love em forever. Me and my fiancée mutually bonded over them when we first met. And the reason why we met was because of an Incubus concert!
This was just my view o the performance from a standpoint as a fan of the band. I generally enjoy their whole back catalogue and take me to your leader is very creative piece from Mike's unique guitars parts to Brandon's percussion parts. My point was not them lacking the passion as musicians in generally, when you hear the records they were putting out at this time and Mr. Boyd is a lyrical genius. A very clever man of whom I have a lot respect for as an artist.
I love how people equate chasing the American dream as selling out. Primus most certainly does have creativity, they're just riff-oriented. Kinda like Queens of the Stone Age. If you look at direct comparison of the respective instrumentalists, Primus/RHCP win hands down. You can't just completely discount that because you don't like what avenues they've decided to travel or what they piece together when they collaborate.
Lol people complain wayyyyy too much when a bands sound mature. The stage is too big for this song? Their more popular albums are shitty? Wow lol what a lame excuse to dislike music. Bands grow up and mature haha wtf is wrong with that. Saying a band sucks cause they grew up is like saying a friend or a relative sucks cause they grew up? lmao what a poor excuse
I went to an Incubus concert once (I saw both them and Linkin Park there) and I was waiting for them to play this song... they didn't, and I wish they did. The concert was awesome though!
***** They play plenty of Make Yourself (most played album on the tour in 2011, excluding INNW which was new at the time. And not just Pardon Me and Drive. Privilege, Consequence, The Warmth, When It Comes all made fairly regular appearances) and a SCIENCE-song (mostly Vitamin, sometimes Green or Glass) a show usually. At some shows in 2012, they played three SCIENCE-songs. They don't play Fungus, true, but they do play pre-2000 songs.
I agree, but I do enjoy their later work a lot too. If I would see Crow played in full, I would be equally as happy! I just hope to see them play Redefine one day and maybe New Skin. One of those would be a blessing. Only saw Vitamin and Green live during of the four times I saw them.
well im one of the "new fans" of incubus and i gotta say it's hard to believe that the songs thy write nowadays and the songs on fungus amongus come from the same band, but they're great in both styles of music and personally i love all their albums and it's sad to see "fans" critizicing their newest stuff, they matured as a band and the fact that they changed their style doesn't mean the suck. i still think they're the mos solid band out there (:
How is it that I am just seeing this know? I've been an incubus for like 13 years now and remember a friend of mine asking mike or brandon after a show in pukesburgh in 2004 if they'd ever play anything from enjoy incubus. I don't remember the exact response, but they pretty much just aughed at her. Now i see this?!
in my opinion i think their performance was not so bad. it's probably a little hard for incubus to perform their really old stuff as good as they can play their new stuff. this was a good performance.
That and natural maturing of the voice with age - this performance was like 10 years after the song was written or something, huh? :P But yeah, I woul have to agree.
@@donnavinzepeda6392 It's like one of those things that's not a big enough mistake to restart a song (nothing is in my opinion), but especially having that happen while filming it live for posterity, it'd drive me insane knowing I goofed 1% of one of my best drum parts I've put to record. Seriously though, the drum tracks on Fungus Amongus inspire me to this day, so I have more scrutiny than I should upon hearing them; Jose Pasillas is an absolute favorite of mine, and very formative toward my style since I was first getting serious about the kit around 2012. Even as Incubus' creativity transformed several times over, his chops have kept them sounding excellent every step of the way.
@@jamesmcmackin8773 oh yeah and I'm not that much of a drummer but with those stick clicks I'm usually like "well now that's gonna be in my head for the rest of the song" so I usually fuck up the rest of the song thinking about one mistake and it just keeps adding on. Jose on the other hand is a professional and the whole song was perfect.
@@donnavinzepeda6392 When I switched from a 5-piece down to a 4-piece kit, there was a lot of that clicking happening since I wasn't used to having such a big gap between toms.
recognizable layers of the song are missing here, including the low edge of the opening hits + that circus-like downward lick from the prechorus. since there is no 2nd git, it should be the dj playing it back. no brainer
If they chose to make the same exact sounding music with each CD they put out then people would get sick of them. You don't have to like their new CD. I totally respect that you don't. If Not Now, When? displays the bands diversity and how they can make music of all sorts, as does all of their CD's. Complaining about how diffrent it is isn't going to change anything because the band can make whatever kind of music they want, regardless of what you think.
Look, Ben tried his best on this song. Dirk definitely has him beat when it comes to funk bass, but Ben has done some good shit on that bass. This just isn't his style exactly.
That crowd did not go near as crazy as they should have...they were probably like...this isn't a Morning View song Oo
Love Incubus
They have no clue brah
Sometimes live recordings intentionally minimize crowd sounds in order to get clearer tones of the music itself
🤘💀🤘 just seen incubus for my 12th time or so this past summer aug 9 2023. They are such an epic phenomenon. I think they've evolved beautifully as a band with all their music. Real genuine musicians \artists true blues💙!!
God I wish I went to that showww. Almost bought tickets but didn't 😭 My biggest regret
I forgot to remember how good this band is.

Brandons screams at 2:30 always give me chills. Still have no idea how he sounds like that, nobody else I've seen does
it's the sound of not knowing how to scream
"what if i had a mustard drenched cucumber tied to my leg and i did not want my pants to get dirty."
best lyrics in history, haha!
Its a great question to ask someone randomly
this has that late 90s early 2000s vibe. The nostalgia !!!!
love this song-best band ever
i love his voice! so versatile.
"I never think, I never thought that maybe I'm insane, I think I like going way the fuck out of my brain." That's the best part of the song!

the morning view version of this song is amazing!

who are you to say they're lacking passion and "that fire"? If that's the case the band would not be around anymore. plain and simple
I agree, and thank you for one of the most intelligent responses...rather than then bashing that happens. I love incubus.
It looked like Mike and Ben were into it. But yes I agree, as a musician myself, over time you grow. Wow! That was great. I love it when they play old stuff at shows. They mess up a lot but a crowd gets a huge kick out of it.
Incubus is and always will be my favorite band. I love their older stuff, but I like their newer stuff too.
I love how people equate chasing the American dream as selling out.

"grow up" = sells their souls to the music industry
They forgot to remember the passion of this song
All you have to do is CLOSE YOUR EYES. You "forgot to remember" that this is m.u.s.i.c first, then video.
Hahaha na it still soinds pretty good and Brandon's vocals are sick
i love how it's so quite after they finished the song, they were like wtf was that!
At least Brandon brings some of the old crazy energy to this.
this was a badass performance kudos brandon
Incubus plz play this a lot more here in america!
Best Band ever in the world!!
insane guitar :D this is awesome

such a good song...greatest band everrrrr
SOO good when brandon sings into the micstand, with no mic.
that was amazing! i love that song
mike's hair is beastly here :D
oldy but a goody...and totally mrjpwannabe..ben killed it!!!
Kudos to this statement. The Dirk and Benny comparisons are getting ridiculous.

if they ever play this again i will die right there on the pit
they've changed a lot. i think fungus amongus is their best album.. but they're still great. really creative.
what if i had a mustard-drenched cucumber tied to my leg and i did not want my pants to get dirty?
How is it that I am just seeing this know?

Now i see this?!
haha the Morning View era of Incubus fans probably didnt know what the hell was going on.
this song is gettin on 12 years old now... i cant run as nearly far as i cud wen i was 9 years old!! id say it's kinda the same for this song!!
You should get down on some Primus/Chili Peppers and expand on bands similar. Incubus was heavily influenced by them in their earlier years.
yea i've heard their ashamed of playing their super old stuff like from amongus so its cool to see them playing this song in 04
first incubus song i ever heard
This song is f'ing insane
i forgot to remember classic stoner phrase
When you got the wrong crowd
They seem like deer in the headlights.
TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER OR DIE BY FLY GUY!!!!
damn !! the memories
i would fucking kill to see this played live =D
Lmao with Jose's hair!!! : )
mikey's playing a tele.....wicked cool =)
HAHA your telling me man, u fucking love this song if they played it live i would be rockin out
hahahahaha
This performance rocks!
BB's so ripped.
Incubus performing: "i forgot to make justice to this song"
in my opinion i think their performance was not so bad. it's probably a little hard for incubus to perform their really old stuff as good as they can play their new stuff.
this was a good performance.
"I never think, I never though oh maybe I'm insane! I think I like being way the fuck out of my brain!"
Really wish theyd play this more often, or anything from Fungus. Its their weakest album but its still fantastic
yep
N-O-T-A-B-L-E
agree with you TheFretDancer. Ben's an awesome bassist. Dirk's not there anymore, get over it everyone and just enjoy the tunes.
its kinda sad to see this song with no dirk, still good
...and someone said they don't like their old stuff anymore :D
That and natural maturing of the voice with age - this performance was like 10 years after the song was written or something, huh? :P But yeah, I woul have to agree.
During this performance you can slowly see Brandon getting more and more loose and dancing and screaming louder and louder
Take me to your dealer...
this is the original sound of incubus;;;;
no 4 sure, I´m talking about the video that it´s hanging in this page. XD
It's nice to seem them going back to their roots, but it isn't as good as it used to be. Rock on you guys :-)
I forgot to remember to do my homework
lol. they're my fave band.. but u cant say that
I can painfully relate to the stick-click at 0:08
😪😪

@the1stbeaner exactly.
also, notice brandon, towards the end, seemed really confused and his face looks like, "geeezuz." lol
i think azwethinkweiz was my favorite song from enjoy incubus haha
in fucking sane.
They have a hint of Primus in this ingridient...... my opinion
Wow i didn't think they would have the balls to play their good shit

haha. It's funny how much his voice has changed.

ha jose missed the tom on 0:08.
The night Fungus died…
ALEX for the win!
sounded so much better when brandon still had his dreads!
they don't do their old stuff live anymore it sucks but ah well lol
@the1stbeaner lol im one of those xDDD but well... they no are my type at all xDDD
Forgot to remember my cocaine
hahahaha type-o at 1:40, they're missing a U in you
i know you're not talkin 'bout incubus?
That slow performance and without excitement.
it's like been watched by a flying pig xD
Someone went a little overboard with the tape on his mic.
What if I had a mustard drenched cucumber tied to my leg
And I did not want my pants to get dirty?
Now that's some fucked up lyrics.
