Very helpful and insightful sermon. This whole ordeal has brought about a needed reckoning and self reflection among Christians, especially those that are online more than others. Before this broke and I was shaken awake, I now realize that I was guilty of not literal man worship but at the very least unwarranted elevation when it came to Anderson. He knew more academically about the Bible than I do, so it was easy to outsource my learning of the Word to him and just let him tell me what xyz meant. Likewise looking back I can see that I was guilty of falling into that "boring" mindset trap when it came to other preachers. Anderson put on a great show. Every sermon was a standup comedy routine that was biting and informative. But the Word of God is not a circus act, and I regret that I reduced learning about it to seeking out which pastor could entertain me more for an hour rather than what it should be about.
Even before all this happened I was disturbed that all I ever saw from him was a spirit of anger and hate. Never grace, never charity, never love. But I ignored it because I enjoyed the show.

Thank you Pastor Jones for reminding us all: to only follow those who are actually following Christ! While we should “love all saints” in the Kingdom (wicked or not: and all saints said: Amen), we are fallen into this “celeb-type idolatry” if we “blindly follow anyone” while they’re in error! Nobody is gonna worship a golden calf outright; but we should also understand that if God mightily uses someone, or magnifies someone, for the purposes of His Kingdom, it is for His glory alone (and no one else’s: Amen)! So we need to acknowledge God, whose name is Jealous; for He is the One that doeth the works: Amen! Thank you Sir, keep up the good work; and, like you said, having the name “Jones” should keep you humble about this celeb-type idolatry: LOL, Godspeed.

Remember the rise and fall of Mars Hill Church? Somehow, it all makes me think of what's going on. The harder they come, the harder they fall.

    Galatians 5:22-26
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Man of God is getting slung around petty loosely right now. In God’s eyes that is a big statement that only God should bestow

I suppose ive been blessed to always have gone to small town churches. I think its harder to fall under a spell and view the Pastor as a shiny immaculate demigod guru when they live close to you, alongside you, and you're frequently reminded that they have flaws like anyone else.

why you got pushed away from is being a traitor , to quick to judge and adding to the devils attack on a man of God. I hope in the future friends are better to you and you are a better friend James 1:19

Um, so because I believe in child rearing, I too am an idolater?
Agreeing with someone doesn't make you an idolater.
    That's ignorant.
However, when ride shirt tails for attention, it's really lame.

Unfortunately, a lot of us are drawn to charisma. Many people would talk about the "spirit" of Steven Anderson's preaching when in actuality, it was a false sense of spirituality.
He had away of captivating us with well structured point by point sermons mixed with his charismatic and comedic ways of delivering them that people just believed it was the Holy spirit that was the driving force behind the preaching.
I'm guilty of falling for it as well but when I began to notice how much charity and Grace pastor Steven Anderson and other preachers in his circle lacked, that was a sign that they didn't have the holy spirit in them even if they are saved.
If you truly have the holy spirit, why would you go after other saved Christians in such a way that they did? When I started noticing their attacks on immature behavior online, I finally came to the conclusion that all of the years of their stellar preaching was nothing more than smoke and mirrors.
