The only scenes which they added that 'worked' were the ones that stood on their own, without the continuity being influenced, like the Cersei-Robert convo in season 1.

Re Littlefinger's accent, I got the idea that Aidan Gillen got tired of whatever accent he started out with and so lapsed back into his native Irish accent.
My guess is maybe the show didn't have a linguistic consultant that would be responsible solely for keeping track of actors' non-native accents to make sure their enunciation was consistent with each season that comes around (and rein them in with some additional coaching sessions on the side if it begins to "fluctuate")? Another accent that had a bit of an "evolution" from the first season all the way to the last was Marina Sirtis' Betazoid accent in Star Trek TNG, so maybe she was also in the same situation as Aidan (i.e., got tired or bored, or didn't have a consultant on hand to keep the accent "disciplined", or maybe some other reason entirely).

I spent a lot of time on Television Without Pity during the first few seasons of the show... so when I saw Xaro, my first reaction was "DUCK SAUCE".
