The key for 2024 WVU football moving forward.

- Great coaches adapt to their players' strengths, when they don't necessarily "fit" the coach's scheme. Rather than fitting a square peg into a round hole, they make adjustments and do things differently. In order for the 2024 WVU football team to win enough games to reach or at least come close to their preseason goals, head coach Neal Brown is going to have to do some things differently, moving forward. In this video, I break down what those things are #hailwv
Carson you did such a good job putting into words what a lot of us fans are feeling. As far as Brown is concerned, it does seem to be a philosophy issue not an ability to coach issue.
Check out Jed Drenning’s breakdown of the Kansas game on the In The Gun podcast. The plays Brown called at the end of the game were highly affective. He was attacking the defense.
It’s also hard on a defense to mount short drives or go 4 and out. At least if we are forcing offenses to have to keep up on the score board, we cause them to have to take more risks, that our defense might be able to capitalize on.
Thank you for the compliment 🤙 and will do this week. Jed has done an excellent job for years, so par the course that he has a good break down.
Just finishing that Bama-UGA game and I can’t help but think how bad those teams would throttle WVU because of how aggressive they are w/their play calling & tenacity.
I, apparently, may be in the minority w/this take though. Debating on Twitter earlier w/Mountaineer Paul and he thinks I “don’t know complementary football” bc I want to see WVU’s offense be as effective as possible, no matter the stakes for what it means for this defense. We’ve seen what the defense can do, when its offense doesn’t play w/a lead (or if it does, not enough of one)… why not try to score as many points as possible each week??
Your points are always excellent and you are also very well spoken. Have you ever coached?
Appreciate the kind words 🤙 thank you. I try.
As for coaching, no. Have never had the time for it 😕
Great Research, Commentary, and Common Sense
We were told in the preseason that the transfer portal was fixed. We could have used the 2 d linemen who transferred out (Lockhart & the player from Kentucky. but no big deal. Hershey McLaurin & Jared Bartlett may not play in the NFL some day but I think we could have used them, especially the db McLaurin. With Vesterinen's injury we're rotating 6 d linemen where we rotated 9 d linemen last year.
Playing close games seems to deter putting in 2nd & 3rd string players. We apparently only trust 2 running backs, 5 o linemen & 6 d linemen (not counting Eddie V). I think the lack of depth in those 3 areas is a concern.
My thoughts are, we keep trying to play the transfer portal route with the secondary, specifically corners, and I think we need to stop and start developing our own. Beanie is evidence of this. He went from a good CB at Minnesota to a great CB at WVU. It’s time for Crandall, the Jackson brothers, Zae Jennings, and Israel Boyce to be the foundation of what can be an incredible secondary in the future. At this point, if your secondary sucks anyway, might as well develop the young guys as quick as possible
Yep, the offseason going into 2022 wrecked the roster mgmt of the CB position. WVU’s still trying to figure that out.
We may see more of the guys you mentioned, if the season goes sideways, after October.
It’s year 6 and as you mentioned OU and TX are gone. If we are 500 or under this year that is going to be the celling for Coach Brown. I feel like at year 6 we kind of are where we are and will most likely be.
Agreed. Can’t settle for that, IMO.
Hi Carson..Hows the Baby?
Hi Kerry 👋 thanks for asking. She’s exhausting 😅 but living her best life. Eats like a horse. Barely ever wants to sleep, which is the challenge. We definitely have a “hard” one, not an easy one, as my wife and I have been told. Dealing w/her screaming right now, as I type this out haha But one month old 🙌 taking her to a pumpkin patch today on the bye week 🎃
How does running the two minute offense make it hard on the OUR defense? WTF? Would it not make it difficult on THEIR defense?
Yes, but the counter point to my argument is, if WVU goes more up tempo and doesn’t convert drives into points (or even if they do score), WVU’s defense is on the field MORE… and those who disagree w/me think, if that’s the case-no matter whether WVU scores-then they’ll lose. “Complementary football” is what they claim. I think that’s been tried enough to average results.
Bingo!!! If he knows what the opponent is preparing for, then why not do something different? He contridicted himself. That is the why the two minute fast pace drill works. DUH!!! Neal Brown lacks the killer instict. He believes what the computer is telling him with all of his stupid analytics. Guess what Neal Brown there were great coaches before computers were invented. Those where real coaches. Not computer nerd coaches. I will take the old school coaches any day versus a computer analysis coach. Look at his record? I don't think the computer knows what it is talking about.
Rich Rod did not need computer analysis. Rich designed his plays around the talent, abilities and strength of his players. Which produces successful execution and progress. I see plays consistantly giving the ball to the wrong person for a certain play. I see it over and over and over. Coach Brown blames it on the players. He is coaching backwards. You design plays for certain athletes's skills and abilities. He thinks the players should mold themselves into the play called. It is assbackwards!!!! This is why he has a 500 record. If he would design plays for certain players abilities and strenghs, he would have more success.
I’m glad you got the point of my video 😁 others did not, unfortunately haha
There's a lot of flaws with your thinking. 1. Is his style of play keeping the offense on the field, long drives and scores keep the defense off the field. He also likes to use pass plays and screen to move the ball down the field. You can't come pair NB to Rich rod or Dana 2 different styles of offenses. Remember during Dana's time everybody complained about the defense because of the 3 and out of Dana's offense and the defense getting tired. NB gets blamed if he goes for it on 4th down or doesn't, no win situation. Your videos have no organization to it. The only thing I got out of it is you want NB fired. You could have said that in a 15 minute video. You could have made 4 videos out of that 1. The ideal length of a video on youtube is 15 minutes long. That gets the most watched.
Thanks for watching 🤙 even if it’s your first and only time because you didn’t care for it.
@@Carson-Fox I am a subscriber and I have been watching I think ever since you've been up doing videos. I am just looking to make you better.
Appreciate you 🤙 since that’s the case, then I’ll outline how I organized this:
- Morphing the two plot lines most discussed by others at a bye week: 1) What does WVU need to do at the bye to be better and 2) Evaluating WVU at the “third pole” of the season
- Admitting I don’t see this secondary getting much better
- Arguing for Brown to take a different approach offensively, philosophically
- Brown’s comments from presser about his offensive philosophy… I’m not a fan of it & why
- He doesn’t believe in the up tempo “2 min drill” for a base offense… I disagree & why
- Chronicling the friction between Brown & Greene over “control” of the offense to where we are today
- Many (including me) would like for Greene to be better in the short to intermediate passing game from within the pocket… Greene doesn’t want to do that
Is that more clear? Happy to debate any part of that take 😊
