The AE86 for being tunned for drift passed hands and drifting in Akina mountain highways by many owners, however some owner exported it due economical issues. A Horizon racer during the creation of Horizon Road Race bought it and tried to test it there, it was cool but "unreliable" for the different conditions and certain slow speed and irregular turns, a crash cause by the car in a high speed turn made the Horizon racer give up abandoned the Tofu Trueno. Somehow appeared a rumour of the legendary Tofu Trueno abandoned by a staff checking speed radars and saw it and then it spread across the staff and racers. In this case CToretto listened the rumour, checked if its true and the rest tells by itselft

i agree , idc what people say of how its overated but at the end of the day i like the car for what it is and ik id probably like it more if i could acc own one xD but this car did defo get my interests in cars
It was fast and powerful for its time, much faster than the KP61 Starlet that came before. Every other person had one, and Japan's streets were full of them while they were relatively new. It became massively popular with racers because it had pedigree, and the legendary Drift King Keiichi Tsuchiya made his name off the back of the humble Corolla. He still has one to this day. It is considered overrated because the 80s and 90s were the golden age of Japanese motorsport and design, making the commuter car look worse in comparison. The AE86 was flimsy and required a lot of chassis reinforcement to be competitive, the engine bulkheads often cracked from spirited driving, and the silver top racing engine had very undesirable power delivery, only being powerful at very high rpm. Most of the Initial D opponents were pure bred sports cars, they were at least 2x as powerful, had rigid bodies, advanced suspension and even power delivery. Which is why Takumi competed in the downhill races, and still struggled immensely

It handled favourably at the limit, but that was not enough anymore Even in the 1.6L class, engine power and torque rose dramatically in Japan.

Someone finds the wreck, the body still inside, the driver not letting go of the steering wheel, even from the realm of the dead. And it just so happens that he's a car enthusiast too. Gently moving Takumi-san to the backseat for later, the new driver takes the wheel. He'll have to inform the cops later but for now something even more important needs to be done. This car needs new life. This car needs to show respect for it's previous driver. This car needs.....The Top.
