    I'm so excited that so many of us are starting this journey together! The fact that we're all going Vegan/Vegetarian at the same time will make it so much easier and more fun for all of us. Can't wait to travel with you again and find delicious vegan meals everywhere we go. Yay Ben! :)

      Or it's like a group of friends that all get educated about how much of a difference being vegan makes to our own bodies and the rest of the world and sharing that with each other. Going through a major transition like this with like minded people makes it much easier and more fun :)

    I'm so happy for you, because I know, as most vegans I'd say, how it feels. When you open your eyes&heart and realise you can have such a positive, immediate and efficient impact on our planet&other earthlings. It's a wonderful journey that brings so much love&compassion into your life and I really hope you experience it fully! If you're interested, P. Singer, G.Francione are two important writers when it comes to animals rights. Another great movie is Fork over Knives. Earthlings is a documentary that really makes it even more obvious why we should go vegan, and 101reasons to go vegan on youtube is good video to watch too! Also there are great youtubers you could really enjoy watching like +CamAndNina (I'm sure you'd like their editing&filming too), or many others, if you need inspiration for meals! Also, it makes so much sense to go vegan for other human beings. Climate change is causing some people to flee or migrate away from home, aka being climate refugees all of that mainly because of animal industries. I wish you all the best&thank you for sharing this with your viewers! really!

    I am a meat eater, AND I am educated in the impact of diets on our environment and my body. I choose to source my proteins from more sustainable and less impactful options. Factory farming is very different from small scale sustainable farming and hunting. I don't think 'meat eating' in general should all be lumped in to one category.

    • @hexicdragon3094
      @hexicdragon3094 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +Pet Meadow Crew Small scale farms may be a lot better on the animals themselves, but from an environmental perspective they're even more devastating. For example, a single grass-fed cow needs anywhere from 2.5 - 30 acres of land depending on the quality of the pasture. Up to 90% of amazon rain forest destruction is attributable to cattle ranchers making room for their grass-fed cows.
      From an article on Penn State Extension (extension.psu.edu/animals/beef/grass-fed-beef/articles/telling-the-grass-fed-beef-story) - "On the environmental front, studies by Yan et al (2009) in Ireland used growth chambers to evaluate the greenhouse gas emissions from cattle with varying levels of forage and grain in the diet. Coupling these results with a 30% increase of harvest age of grass-fed cattle compared to grain-fed, it becomes clear there is a 500% increase in greenhouse gas emissions for each pound of beef produced from grass-fed compared to grain-fed cattle. Uncontrolled nitrogen and phosphate release to the environment, 35% more water use, and 30% more land use for grass-fed cattle compared to grain-fed increases the environmental impact of strictly grass feeding."
      If you're going to continue eating animals, I can't put a gun to your head to stop you. But don't fool yourself into thinking farms that market their meat as "sustainable" are any better than factory farms. Both are terrible for the environment, but that negative effect is amplified by free-range, grass fed, etc. farms.

      @yarat3952 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      + Pet Meadow Crew I am 100% with you on that. I do not refrain from meat but have severely limited my intake to meat I know the exact source of. And even then it's probably only one meal a month or even less. I think to Completely cut all meat and dairy is a noble thing, but it would make a massive difference STILL if everyone just reduced intake and made sure they knew where their meat / dairy came from. As to the comment on it Increasing the risk of heart disease and cancer, not if you have a balanced diet it won't.

    Went vegan in January this year, cause I didn't want to support the industrial animal husbandry anymore. I'm so glad I did it and when you just grapple with it you realise you have to do something cause it's our future and our planet which is involved. Hope this mind changing progress gather more and more people and we can change this system. I'm really glad you shared this with us !

    • @eleventhclara
      @eleventhclara 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +CardGreenNo as a vegan for ethical reasons as well, I would answer that with a resounding no. Meet from a local free range far doesn't necessarily mean the animals are treated more humanly, and the animals still have to be killed in the end.

    • @meinpferd1
      @meinpferd1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +CardGreenNo For your clearness, before I went vegan I was a vegetarian for years ;). And I have the same opinion as +eleventhclara.

    • @GameTastic7
      @GameTastic7 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +CardGreenNo Grass fed, pasture raised animals are actually worse for the environment because they require more land for grazing and produce more greenhouse gases than factory farm raised animals. Humans have 0 nutritional requirements for animal flesh or their secretions. And animals are just like us in that they all feel fear and pain and they all want to live out their lives free from the fear of harm, invasion or exploitation. Since we can live happy healthy lives without harming animals, why wouldn't we be vegan?

    Ben, this is one of the most inspiring videos you have released. When I was on holiday in Turkey with my family this year I had a lot of time to think. I picked up a few books and for some reason I began to ask questions that I had never thought of before. Diet was one of the topics I started to question and just like you, other people and movements also helped me gain an education in this area. It took me about a week or two to fully adjust to the idea that I can really be a part of something. I can have an impact and at that, a positive one. My outlook on other life forms and our own has increased with love and passion. No longer do I just squash an insect that is in my house, I will let it free. And I know that may seem a minuscule act, but it is a part of my new vision. To help the ones in need and to love everything for what it is.

    😊I'm so proud of you! Louis too...? I never thought u guys would even consider it. I've been a veg since 1965. I'm an author and teacher of veganism. Juicing and blending is quite an important part to it to make sure you're getting enough protein. Super greens are a big part of this. Chia seeds, quinoa, tofu, tempeh, etc.,. Going veg is the BEST way to help our planet AND help us achieve a deeper compassion for animals and ALL being.

    I've been vegetarian for 3 years now, just because I found it hard to eat a dead animal. A few months ago I learned about veganism and it was so eye-opening. Now I'm eating mostly plant-based meals, while I'm educating myself more about the subject. It is incredible how nobody knows about the impact of the meat and dairy industry on the environment and our health! This really needs to change!!

    Veganism is a lifestyle not a diet. I think once people understand the difference they are always more willing to try it out. I'm so happy to see more youtubers speak up for our environment and for the billions of animals that die each year. Good luck with your journey Ben! Can't wait to see how it goes and how many people you will inspire. The only regret a vegan has is that they wish they changed their lifestyle sooner.

    This vlog was awesome! Veganism is a controversial topic but I admire the courage it took for you to talk about it in such a public forum. Veganism is only difficult when we still possess an egocentric set of mind, the moment we discover the compassion within ourselves to live with the greater good as a compass it's impossible to turn back. Good luck with your new journey.

    Just because I choose to eat meat does not mean I am not aware of what this documentary states. I have also seen similar ones like Food Inc. Veganism is a lifestyle that does not work for me and my body. I do limit my meat intake to about 2-3 times a week. This does NOT mean I am ignorant to environmental impact issues but there are many other ways that I can help be more Earth friendly not just by going vegan.
    That is my only complaint about certain comments made.

    How can you call yourself an environmentalist when your still happily hoping on many flights across the globe each year. I'm fully aware of the strain on the environment meat production / consumption causes but remember meat substitutes such as soy, chickpeas and lentils can be just as harmful to the world, e.g. soy bought in the UK would of likely had to be imported from somewhere such as Brazil where they're chopping down virgin rainforest to increase the amount of arable land they have to grow crops such as soy. Furthermore other products such as Tofu are made through an energy intensive process to refine them.
    I'm not against being Vegan or claiming that I'm an environmental angel, but I do feel the environmental argument for being Vegan overlooks the environmental issues of vegan food when it criticises meat for those same issues.
    Happy to hear the opinions of others :)

I went ahead and started flex eating mainly because I don't do well with dairy and I'm not a huge fan of meat, but I'm not buying the reasoning behind a lot of these documentaries. I've been on working farms and with hunters and the thing is a lot of it has an impact back on the environment and our society that isn't as negative as they say. I think it's fine to be vegan, but do your own research and decide what's right for you I hate it when people push it one way or the other without knowing you personally, but that's how people online are.

    "You're probably a meat eater, because you don't know the impact you have as a carnivore" I'm sorry but that's not it at all. Many people eat meat in this world, and do know these facts. People aren't carnivores just because they don't do their research. You present a good argument and yes becoming a vegan has it's benefits, but just as you did research on this, others could do theirs and make a strong argument on not being vegan. I'm not saying being a vegan is bad. I just think you should respect other people's choices, just as they would respect yours.

    I've had this thought for a while now and about how we as a community just need to be more aware of what we eat. I'm not a huge fan of the labels (my own thoughts) of vegan, vegetarian, lacto-ovo-vegetarians, etc. because I think it's more about what you said Ben; educating yourself as to where you are getting your food and what impact is has on our planet. This is not just a meat issue but also in terms of the palm oil industry and the impact it has on the forest and local wildlife, how fruits and vegetables are genetically modified to look "prettier", etc. Just being AWARE of our food I think would have a huge impact. I definitely agree that our access to meat has drastically changed. But I do believe in farm to table, eating and supporting local, educating yourself to those who are passionate about what they do to provide quality (not quantity). What you eat is a very personal choice, like many things in life. But I love the positive awareness and education surrounding it. Positive Vibes :)

    I total agree with you Ben i am environmentalist in the England but i still eat meat, why because i live right next to a butchers or down the road and the field is not far where the cows are kept.
    I see nothing wrong with my local place but in different parts of the world this is not the case. To any of the viewers who are worried about where there meat comes from and doesn't want too go Vegan, go to your local butchers and ask. Ben thanks for bringing up this question because something needs to be done about it. thx Hugo

    May have to stop watching these videos if you go vegan and continue to say things such as "you're probably a carnivore because you aren't educated" have your opinions and beliefs but don't try and push them onto others and insult people's intelligence.

      +Elliot Kirwan I don't think he meant to be condescending or anything. A lot of people simply don't know the impact animal agriculture has on the environment though, including many environmentalists. It just isn't something anyone wants to talk about, because for some reason implying eating animals is bad for the environment offends people. For example, did you know animal ag. is responsible for at least 51% of GHG emissions(www.worldwatch.org/files/pdf/Livestock%20and%20Climate%20Change.pdf)? Or did you know it takes about 67 trillion gallons of water per year in the US alone to raise the billions of animals we kill for food per year? Or did you know you could save upwards of about 725,000 gallons of water per year living a vegan lifestyle? On top of GHG emissions and water usage, animal agriculture is a major contributor (and more often than not the leading cause) of erosion, ocean dead zones, amazon rain forest destruction, world hunger, species extinction, over fishing, and land use.
      I think if more people knew the devastating effects animal agriculture had on the environment, we all would be eating significantly less animals. Give cowspiracy a watch or check out their info graphic (www.cowspiracy.com/infographic) and their fact page (www.cowspiracy.com/facts/). If you even remotely care about the environment, it doesn't make any sense to eat animals if you're aware of how unsustainable meat is.

      +Elliot Kirwan I was the same as you, but don't worry I'm not going to be Mr Preachy :) I'm just taking you guys through the decision making, why I'm doing it. I think people preach it because they're passionate about it, same as I'm passionate about travel and photography etc, got to admire people being passionate in anything positive :) but I've said my bit, learning about it has change me from someone who ALWAYS ate meat, to a vegan, so hopefully that enough to even spark an interest? thanks for sticking around :)

      +Mr Ben Brown thank you for your reply. I'm a rural minded vet student with my own flock of sheep; check out my video. I'm fully aware of what vegan literature preaches, I've had a number of discussions with vegans and read a very interesting article that summed what I'd experienced up very nicely; vegans preach kindness and harmony yet some of the most aggressive and confrontational people are vegans force feeding their ideology. In my research being a vegan is exceedingly difficult and you will no matter how hard you try be 100% vegan. The vegans I have spoken to fail to understand the big picture in life when it comes to sustainable living. I hope that through your videos and work you can promote animal welfare and a healthy lifestyle whilst travelling and having fun in the best 4x4 ever created! ;) genuinely stoked you replied though, I'd be really interested to speak to you more at length about this, I may even be able to teach you something new!ekirwan96@gmail.com
