I hate to be that guy who keeps shouting that you need to "LETS PLAY THIS GAME THAT I LIKE", but I think this game has more replay value than it seems because each map and each town has different complex issues. I would personally love to see this town as an LP.
Thank you so much this was incredibly helpful!!! I just bought the game yesterday and although I had watched through multiple let's plays, I still managed to starve everyone in about an hour of playing. Thank you, again!
Following this tutorial, my town survived for 21 YEARS! And THEN everyone stopped making kids. And then the town died out. But hey, 21 years - not bad!
This is the best tutorial ever! It covers so much, and adds in a little comedy. I played without any help for a few hours and just died each time. Now, I'm on year 5!
This was excellent! It doesn't mater what difficulty you're playing, this video gives you excellent information. I listened along as I played and I truly benefited from this video. Thank you!
***** Hi Mr. Dense. valmorgan does not bother to reply cus he's not replying to you and that's a fitting GoT reference, maybe you got LabashtheMighty reference cus' you're born in the 9gag era. And ALELIJUA isn't spelt that way, its Hallelujah, Google both spelling. Now reflect on your life decisions.
I love how optimist you are. It's a really pleasure to hear you talking about this game. Great game, great explains. I congratulate you for your good vibrations. Thx so much.
Just found out about this game and until I am able to afford it in a few weeks I have been looking at quite a few people who have done gameplay videos and you sir have done the finest one yet! I do like that this game is not about instant gratification and is about patience and effort to get things going. You have earned my sub and thumbs up. Keep up the good work.
I found you so unbelievably relaxing!! Like a PP said you are another Bob Ross!! If I heard your voice as the pilot of a plane I'd be like "yep, this bloke will get us where we need to go" 😂👍
This video was extremely helpful. This game is so complicated and hard to understand, but you make it look easy! You explained everything perfectly. Thanks for the help! You're the best! :)
Thanks Shen! Always coming through for us! I got the game, and tried a few times, I ended up staring off my population the first time, second was a tornado... but thanks for this opener!
I have Banished, and i thought i know everythink, and then i saw this video and i was like wtf why does is take 45 minutes to survive the first year, and then he explained so much things and i felt stupid. From that day im subscribed :D
Great video. Explained very well. Just wanted to share my own strategy with everyone. I build a gatherers hut, a storage barn and 2 stone houses. Yes I said STONE houses. In fact, I build ALL stone houses. It requires massive gathering efforts early (which is what I do with the rest of the first year) but pays off in the much reduced need for firewood. Firewood actually becomes your currency for trade. It's not as hard as you might think.
man, this is the best tutorial Ive seen so far for this game, and I watched quite some, and some very good (IMHO). Thank you for the videos! Subscribed!!! =) some of the small details, such as realizing that the foundation appears when youve gathered enough materials, and that there is a number of "tasks" required which are done each time a person stops and animates an action... those might not be essential, but are really, really interesting. Loved it! Thank man!
Awesome tutorial bro. One tiny thing, it might be more efficient to put your tailor right next to your storage barn and your blacksmith at the midpoint between the two, as the tailor will go to barn for leather and to store clothes hey make, while the blacksmith will go to stockpile for iron and logs, but will go to storage shed to drop off made tools. That's only after the cart has become obsolete, however.
Finally made it past year two without people starving. Thanks man. Great video. Now off to your playthroughs. Love your damn voice. No homo. I'm picky about voices too.
If anyone wants this game but missed the sale the on steam, the Normal price on G2A is $6 compared to steams $20 :). Oh and great video, I just started playing and am quite terrible xD
I tend to make two foresters lodges, one for cutting and one for planting, and at first I'll have four planters and one cutter, but as the trees fill out I'll find a better balance.
I just started playing this game few days ago and I discovered you can survive the first winter making only one building.. Yes. building 1 stone house is enough.. even if they are homeless they wont freeze to death because they'll warm themselves on the stone house if they feel cold even if they don't live there.. Also your villagers wont die from starvation because they wont hoard food.. only people with houses do that.. if they are hungry they will take just enough from the cart.. you also don't need firewood on your first year because you have 100 firewood from the cart and 1 house will only use probably 20.. This strategy works 100% in Hard mode. I'm not saying not to build anything else.. My built is 1 stone house, then 1 gatherer's hut (employ 2), then 1 woodcutter, then 3 houses.. (hard)
Thank you so much for explaining things in a simple way so that i can expand upon the tutorials. This video is very valuable to me. I keep failing on easy mode. Im a noob player. I appreciate the time you took to help me understand the unspoken basics. New loyal sub!
The only thing I wish he had mentioned is the possibility of disasters. I know the tutorial is explicitly about surviving the first year, but I have had quite a few towns with tornadoes, fires, etc. within the first 5 years of the start. With the limited space of a mountain map, it's always good to think about not one, but two sites so you have a way to recover from disasters. And build wells :)
Long Doan I usually make two separate towns on the same map in case one gets destroyed you can still survive. I have had tornadoes destroy a lot as well... the fires are a little odd since the villagers don't seem to have any sort of system when it comes to them. You can have a well right next to a building and it will burn to the ground before anyone even bothers to put it out.
I see you struggle with closing boxes at times. Like if you click a citizen or a home, and the info box comes up, you can just right click and it'll close. Same for cancelling actions when you're mapping crop fields, paths, pastures etcs.
I fully agree with you shenry this a brilliant game and more so since it was created by one person. Your coverage of it was brilliant as well completely enjoyed it and learned a great deal. Your presentation was very professional and your should be quite proud of that. I do hope there is a second video.
This is an excellent tutorial, which helped me past my dry patch of about 20 towns dying after my first getting to a pop of 400. Although, I felt a bit like a child due to your condescending manner :/
thank for this amazing video. Very informative and well explained. I hope more gamers are like you, it makes noobs understand the mechanics of a game better.
I know it's old, but thanks for the vid. I noted you don't make roads right away and just about everyone else I watched does. Do you just not get around to it, don't think they help, ??? Just curious as I thought if nothing else they would help keep buildings and such lined up (yeah I'm one of those where that would matter).
I prefer to build under medium conditions but i have found that playing on easy can be as difficult as playing on hard. On easy, the houses are wood, and in the wrong place, plus wood houses use more fuel and are prone to fire. On hard if you're not near water, quit and start over until you're next to water. I also play on flatlands, or badlands, mountains and valleys are such a pain!
the secret is to only build new houses when your food surplus is going up rapidly because every time you build a house, children are born and start eating the food, so if you build too many houses early on everyone will starve.. also fishing docks seem to be the worst for food and farms are the best
The first second of this video when there was a delay from when he spoke, I was thinking, "SHIT, no voice? Goddamn hell." Then it came on and I said out loud: "Thank God."
I can't seem to progress because my food reserves are constantly low, even though the whole town is fishing, gathering, farming etc. And I can't build more houses because then they'll die of starvation.
How can I solve my firewood being low? I set them to chop down trees but it's never enough. I have like 4 or 5 foresters lodges in different areas. It's still not enough. I have a village with around 100 people and they're all complaining about it being cold. I have plenty of coats for everyone no problem but not enough wood. Tips??
This game was made by a single developer. Knowing that makes the whole experience much more impressive.
Amazing.
"Impressive, most impressive."
Sir, you're the Bob Ross of gaming tutorials :-)
THIS! Yes! Great video.
"Now we're going to cut down some happy little trees" :-D
Shenryyr, are you a teacher? You're very good at explaining things.
I thought the same thing
Jacob Eden, thank you for that intelligent and thought provoking addition to this conversation. You really are a gift to humanity.
Jacob Eden just wow
I hate to be that guy who keeps shouting that you need to "LETS PLAY THIS GAME THAT I LIKE", but I think this game has more replay value than it seems because each map and each town has different complex issues. I would personally love to see this town as an LP.
It's a beast game, man.
Thank you so much this was incredibly helpful!!! I just bought the game yesterday and although I had watched through multiple let's plays, I still managed to starve everyone in about an hour of playing. Thank you, again!
Best tutorial hands down! I come back here every time I want to play a new game in banishes when I haven't played for a few months
throughout the course of this video I have grown more and more attached to the idea of a man called Rose
Following this tutorial, my town survived for 21 YEARS!
And THEN everyone stopped making kids. And then the town died out.
But hey, 21 years - not bad!
Build a building that attract nomad+inn, build cemetery, and build more house because the elderly that's not productive still occupy the old house
first time i played this game, my whole village died at year 3-4. i am now on year 11 with 3 deaths. i love you man, just subscribed.
Honestly i love this guys voice so much......
This tutorial deserves a sequel.
Thank you!
3 years later........I'm buying this.......now. Great video! Subbed.
What did you think? I'm rediscovering after some time away and I'm blown away. Loving it!
Brace yourself, winter is coming.

I couldn't get past more than a few years before I watched this video, now I'm going through the years in surplus thanks to your video.
Your lets play videos have influenced me to buy games that I otherwise would not have bought, like EU4 and Banished. Thanks :)
I love how optimist you are. It's a really pleasure to hear you talking about this game. Great game, great explains. I congratulate you for your good vibrations. Thx so much.

Wow, one of the best tuts on the TH-cam machine for this game.
@2:36-2:38 "And trees are wonderful trees." I'm hooked.
Just bought Banished since it's on sale today. This is a very nice beginner's guide XD! I also think your voice is great. +1 sub.

Seriously, the best Banished tutorial out there. Great tips! Thank you for all of the information, this helped me out so so so much!
My people keep dying off.. but I think I've made too many houses when I begin. But wow, what a cool game. Glad I found it, finally.
man, this is the best tutorial Ive seen so far for this game, and I watched quite some, and some very good (IMHO).

This is great. Helped me so much. Even after doing the in game tutorials my little people kept starving. Thank you.
I just bought this game on Steam last night and this video helped a lot. Thanks!
Thanks for posting! You have a good voice for commentary! You are also very helpful.

I watched some other peoples tutorials and this one is ny favorite. Your voiceis nice to listen to, and you explain things good. thanks!
The game is 75% off right now on steam! Get it for 4.99!
One of the best tutorial videos I've ever watched. Thank you.
Finally made it past year two without people starving. Thanks man. Great video. Now off to your playthroughs. Love your damn voice. No homo. I'm picky about voices too.
Bedankt voor je uitleg. Heel duidelijk en zeer vermakelijk. Je hebt veel geduld om dingen in alle rust uit te leggen.
I love this guy, why haven't I found this channel before!
Very helpful been loving all of ur videos!

Love your tut so far, no pointless yapping, simply to the point!
Are you a teacher by profession?
My boyfriend just shown me this game, i love this tutorial! Im currently very obsessed with this game 👍🏼
Thank you so much for explaining things in a simple way so that i can expand upon the tutorials. This video is very valuable to me. I keep failing on easy mode. Im a noob player. I appreciate the time you took to help me understand the unspoken basics. New loyal sub!
Great "how to" video, love your voice and simple way of explaining all ... think I'm ready to try my first town, have lots of notes : > thanks!!
Brilliant Tutorial. I have just got the game, so this is going to be very useful. Liked !!! and subbed !!!
Just got the game and its pretty unforgiving. Thanks for the video, very informative and clear.
This man is great at explaining things. Very good video, earned a sub :)
Nice video. You have a calming voice that helps!
Amazing how you were able to get everything done within a couple of years. I generally have a colony of nudists until like year 9
Well I have a colony of nudists still for more than 30 years lol
Great video, I've been playing Banished for a while and you really gave a great play by play. Stay Gaming !!
Superb Tutorial!

i crie evry tiem
rico ok lol'd.
My friend, you have a great voice, and i love the way you explain this things. Great job...
How to last the first year: Build gatherers, they make more food.
I see you struggle with closing boxes at times. Like if you click a citizen or a home, and the info box comes up, you can just right click and it'll close. Same for cancelling actions when you're mapping crop fields, paths, pastures etcs.

Great narration, you sound like a fully trained pro.
one of the best youtubers keep up the videos im new to rhis channel great job
This is an excellent tutorial, which helped me past my dry patch of about 20 towns dying after my first getting to a pop of 400. Although, I felt a bit like a child due to your condescending manner :/
You have an utterly fantastic presentation style, mate.
Great tutorial! Well worth sitting through the whole thing. Every second I was learning something important!
Nice job man, love your videos! Keep it going!
Has anyone ever told you that you sound just like John Krasinski? Seriously uncanny...also great video!
This tutorial was so entertaining lol, your damn voice is addictive
Thanks! It helped me get to the winter without losing :)
thank for this amazing video. Very informative and well explained. I hope more gamers are like you, it makes noobs understand the mechanics of a game better.

I've heard that clearing the stone and iron from the rss circles for better production of food and wood.
Your tutorial helped me a lot! Thank you very much.
winter is coming
hope you're prepared

Very good video, like the setup and excellent narration
Good job on the tutorial! That's another a like for you! Learned quite a bit
i just bought this game today for like a couple of bucks on sale. its pretty fun, but challenging. still pretty entertaining.
Is it made by ONE guy?! That is imressive.
Thanks for this tutorial :D Just got the game^^
Love how You're talking while playing the game
this made such a big difference to me. thank you
Well done Shen. great tutorial
0 years old and he is educated, can walk, and has super accelerated growth. WAT!
isnt build structures around the hunter's area forester's ...ext decreace efficiency ??
You sound like Paulsoarsjr
This is going to help me a lot tommorow when I play again
I always have low stock of wood even though i have 3 or 4 forest lodges.... What to do ?....
Thank you for your help with getting started with this game! this is a lot of fun :P
yes it really is! I love that this was made by one dedicated guy
Still cant get any crops to grow.... Apparently the free seeds at the start are 'Schmuck bait' ?????
the secret is to only build new houses when your food surplus is going up rapidly because every time you build a house, children are born and start eating the food, so if you build too many houses early on everyone will starve.. also fishing docks seem to be the worst for food and farms are the best

Excellent upload. Much appreciated. This game uses a similar system to Settler games but in a more merciless way :)
What are your thoughts on fishermen? Are they as helpful as gatherers? And when do you suggest adding the trade dock?
Published this video on my b-day. Wow.
great tutorial thanks. the in game tutorial prioritizes houses and that's what was screwing me up
Great video thanks, i actually watched the whole 45 minutes :)
I can't seem to progress because my food reserves are constantly low, even though the whole town is fishing, gathering, farming etc. And I can't build more houses because then they'll die of starvation.
Is it me or is the audio off from the video because, he was saying 2 houses were finished yet on my screen no houses were finished.
Tips??
Sora Haven you need a wood cutter to turn logs into firewood
You are so good at explaining stuff
