They both were willing to sacrifice themselves for each other's idea of peace. Then Anos lets himself get stabbed to go along with Lay/Kanon's plan. When he grabbed the mask and let down the barrier, that was epic.
What's great though is Anos told him(Jerga) that he was fueled by hatred and as he was falling, Anos gave him his one-sided shell necklace as a way to say he wishes him to reunite with his family again, hence the flashback. Anos is brutal but he's truly a family man.
I mean what did he think was going to happen? Jerga wasnt even the strongest human back in the day and Anos clapped Kanon on the regular, he just never destroyed all his sources at once. So now Jerga comes back to fight Anos AND Kanon? no way in hell does he win XD

They have already translated the first 3 volumes, which were the source for the 1st season's plot into English. In addition the first part of Volume 4 was released recently, which was the source for the first 4 episodes of Season 2. The LN contains a lot of lore and mechanics that the anime didn't cover. Since Season 2 will restart in July, the second part of Volume 4 will also release at July 7th, so you will be able to read the LN source while watching the anime.
I don't know if I can handle being Anos's parents; merely 2 months after being born and he's bringing home three potential wives and 10,000 granddaughters.
And so the climactic finale is here! A lot things happened and there is much to unpack! ● Remember how Anos stated that the past itself had been tampered with when talking to Ivis in EP 3? Turns out that was Kanon's doing as by using the power of his holy sword Evansmana, he was able to slash at destiny itself and sever Anos's fate, thus changing his history. Thus even when Anos attempted to use Time Manipulation on Ivis, he wasn't able to find his name due to the past being altered. ● They really did my boi Lay/Kanon dirty with the adaptation of that final fight, as it lasted an entire chapter in the WN/LN and was much more epic and less of a curbstomp. In the LN, Lay was able to nullify all of Anos' ranged spells (meteors, waterfall and Jio Graze flameballs) but they were only meant as a means to keep him busy for Anos to get close to him so he could directly destroy his sources with Source Kill (the same spell that Anos used destroy to Diego's source), as Anos internally stated if he didn't use , he wouldn't be able to damage Lay's source directly. Though Lay was able to injure Anos with his sword as he inflicted a number of stigmas on him and after Anos destroyed his 6th source, it became a tug-of-war, with Lay piercing Anos' shoulder while Anos trying to stop that by suppressing Evansmana's power with Beno Yeven (the black wall spell) and Magic Eyes of Destruction, hoping that Lay would tire out sooner then him. After this, Lay starts dual wielding. ● Anos cosplaying as Avos was a bit more theatrical in the LN, as Anos needed to show proof to the human army that the Demon King's death was real, so he attacked them with meteors while knowing that Lay would be able to stop them. The human army recognizes Lay as Kanon's reincarnation due to him wielding Evansmana and start to become overjoyed and hopeful, as they empower him with Asc and we get Lay's monologue about his life as a Hero. ● After the human army wanted to withdraw due to the Demon King's death and Kanon's order, Diego in a fit of madness tried to remotely explode the Zeshia's with Gavuel, though Lay was able to stop that by cutting out his hand, with him saying that some people like Diego are hopeless and can't be saved. He also humiliated him when Diego tried to order his troops to attack Lay, who Diego said is a demon by telling the troops that Diego himself was Kanon. Lay then dared him to try to wield Evansmana, by telling him that if Lay is a demon and Diego is a hero, then Evansmana should side with him, but he couldn't pull it out no matter how much he tried as the sword itself shocked him for his attempt to try to wield it. ● Misa also had a more prominent role in the final fight as she cast her signature magic Spirit Rain Mist , as Jerga got further pissed off due to believing that the spirits had sides with Anos. Jerga later misunderstood that Anos had used his power to dominate the spirits into obeying him rather then it being a result of the peace achieved. ● The reason why Anos summoned his castle is due to the fact that his sword; the Reason-Destroying Sword Venuzdonoa, cannot be used unless it is near his Demon King Castle. ● The reason why Lay was able to slash Jerga's legs when he was previously unable to attack Jerga, is because Anos used Venuzdonoa to destroy the reason that prevents Evansmana from harming holy things. ● The way that Anos and Lay defeated Jerga is that Lay used Evansmana to sever Jerga's fate of being tied to the world's order, thus preventing any negative fallout from destroying Jerga. In theory, Anos himself could have destroyed Jerga but there is no telling what kind of effects that would have on the world so Lay severing his fate removed any negative risks. Also that shot of the two stabbing Jerga together was dope! ● Anos also gave Jerga a sort of a happy end, as he told Jerga that he remembered his wife and child as they were formidable opponents and it is revealed that he cast the magic of Reincarnation on them before they died, allowing them to reincarnate. His wife was also wearing a seashell necklace, so Anos cast on Jerga, thus giving him a chance to reunite with her.

Things like Wise Man's Grandchild, From Commonplace to World's Strongest, and Moonlit Fantasy have similar tropes. Namely a guy with dark hair either reincarnating or being transported to another world/place and then gaining insane levels of power.
I think the reason that this series didn't bore me the way some other series with OP protagonists tend to do(besides being kind of a pseudo-parody of those other shows) is that Anos is always positive and friendly, never a brooding angsty loner.

Loved your reactions to this. There is a Season 2 in the works. Also, if you like the OP characters then I highly suggest watching "BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense." It came out the same year and was also made by the same studio Silver Link that made Misfit. They've made some other good animes since then and have been consistently interesting and/or good. These two are the most successful imo. Bofuri I think was more popular even though I like both equally. EDIT: Bofuri is like a love child between "Rising of the Shield Hero" and the OP nature of Misfit. With a Sword Art Online setting

IDK what the actual timeline is but I think it's within a year, so... Mom and Dad got a Son who grew up in a month, Went to school and came home with a girl day one, Came home with a second girl and the first a week later, And then 10 months later a 3ed girl and 10,000 grandkids.

The anime is based on the light novels anyway, so there will be no change in story... however anos will be voiced by someone else
