I studied music for 60 years, and I played multiple instruments, and I compose some, too. In my careful opinion, Jethro Tull is one of the top bands of all time and Ian Anderson is one of the best songwriters.
After this album I think his music went down hill… I saw them in St Louis and Chicago on this tour… But overall there’s not a better entertainer, music, composer and songwriter than Sir Ian Anderson… Simply the best….
I agree. I expected "Fire At Midnight" at some point during the '77 show, but it never made the set list, it seems. (Though they did do "Velvet Green" that year, which I was very pleased about). And "Weathercock" is a massive favorite of mine, but I never heard it played live until after the Christmas Album was released -- but it just wasn't nearly the same by then. As for the '82 tour (the era of this concert clip), in L.A., they didn't play this medley at all. Maybe they only showcased it during the European leg of the tour.
Christian Yunes You're quite welcome. I really love this little performance snippet from Tull's 1982 Broadsword tour. They didn't play this medley at all when I saw them in L.A. that year, so I was thrilled to have found such a good quality recording of it from their European tour.
Over the years I've been baffled why fans have lumped "Stormwatch" in with the previous 2 albums as some sort of "folk rock trilogy"......."SFTW" and to a lesser degree "HH" certainly fit the "folk rock" aesthetic, but with only "Dun Ringill" fitting the description, "SW" was a return to full blown Tull at that point in time. Trying to shoe-horn it in with the previous 2 albums to create some imagined "trilogy", even to Ian himself, was and remains a real head scratcher

100% Rock 100% Drama on stage. Ian Anderson is a powerpack and a brilliant singer and songwriter. What a genius band!

Tull is the greatest band ever.
I tend to agree with you.
Amen.

Weathercock may be my favourite Jethro Tull song
No one ever sang more dramatically overwhelming than Ian Anderson. "Sing to us softly, hum evening´s sooong...."

Weathercock is the name of a horse and not a weather vane.
