The purpose of using a compass and straight edge is two fold: 1) for the challenge, and 2) to show that it could be done with no more than three straight sticks in the sand. Certain tools, like a protractor, would make it easier, no doubt, but that's not the point. This was something that the ancient Greeks would challenge themselves with: constructing perfect geometric shapes with no more than a compass and a straightedge--no tools with pre-marked measurements--just lines and circles.
@Matthew Ross It does not, it is used for magic to protect the people doing these magical things. Pentagram btw can signify human being ( Two legs two arms and head ) Pentagram is much more of a symbol of Wiccans than Satanists/Satan/Devil. In the past, the pentagram was commonly seen as a symbol for good and for protection against evil. So you´re wrong, no offense, just stating some facts.

Funny thing is that a upside down cross isn't evil at all.

This construction is OK, but it could have been done with fewer steps. After constructing point F, one can then simply draw an arc through AC with center F and radius FD, marked that intersection point G, then drawn an arc through the circle with center D and radius DG. That would have created the two points marked 2 and 5 in the drawing; the other two points (3 and 4) can then be found by marking two more arcs with centers 2 and 5 and the same radius DG.

I would LOVE for someone to be able to explain why this series of steps results in 72° increments around the circumference of the original circle. And for my second wish, I’d like to know who first deduced these steps & how long ago it was figured out. And lastly, I’d like to thank the manipulator for sharing the steps.
The star intersects the circle at 5 points equidistant from each other, thus splitting the circle into 5 arcs. 1 circle is 360°, so each arc needs to be 360/5=72° to perfectly cover a full circle
Seems like an awful lot of work when all you need is to make the points 72 degrees apart. (360/5=72) this could have been done much simpler than what is shown.

It is part of a drafting set and it is called "a nib" and yes you would need ink as you noted possibly "a pen". You need an eye dropper to replace the ink in the nib, and nibbs can wear so the have to be re-sharpened.
Commonly called a "bow pen". No one who actually had to ink tracings used them, much after 1950. K&E starting selling a better pen system in the late 50's, that standardized line weights. It used a thin tube with wire inside it, as a nib.
There was actually a code for line weights, in drafting, that defined hidden, object, center and section lines.
Nice to know someone still knows how to ink.I'd thought it a lost art.
In my time, we did it with our hands on the cave walls, using mammoth blood. None of this modern ruling pen and ink nonsense.
Draw a circle, measure an angle of 72 degrees to divide the circle into 5 parts. Connect each pair of alternating points in turn to create a 5-pointed star. Try it, it's faster than you're doing.
This is actually a skill created specifically for use without a protractor or any device for measuring degrees. Eyeballing degrees can introduce a certain level of inconsistency that performing constructions with a good compass and straight edge don't. That's why this is more complex; there is no measuring of angles here whatsoever. On top of that, it's more of a mathematical and geometrical challenge to come up with constructions for certain shapes than to just measure out the angles.
What is this
First draw a circle
Then measure the diameter
Then divide it in five parts
Easily make a star ⭐

Gracias por tu tutorial ! salvo mi día , llevo toda la tarde intentando hacer una estrella
Honestly I just came here to see the (almost) perfect circle
A pentagram is Phi Ratio
Pentagon based construction with given radius
Good job!
It's not a perfect pentagram.
Hi Phil Mason, how are you? I hope everything is fine, I have made improvements to the videos and the Channel and I would like to know your opinion, because it is VERY important to me, what I ask you is to see my videos and give me your opinion IF THEY APPEAR ADVERTISING MESSAGES LET THEM NOT SKIP THEM, because this way you are also helping me to grow, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR COLLABORATION.

grazie caro amico
I would LOVE for someone to be able to explain why this series of steps results in 72° increments around the circumference of the original circle. And for my second wish, I’d like to know who first deduced these steps & how long ago it was figured out. And lastly, I’d like to thank the manipulator for sharing the steps.
The star intersects the circle at 5 points equidistant from each other, thus splitting the circle into 5 arcs. 1 circle is 360°, so each arc needs to be 360/5=72° to perfectly cover a full circle
Hi, disculpa cómo se llama la técnica que utilizaste. Excelente video.
Я так понял по простому делить круг на пять частей не умеем....
and now rotate 180 degrees
Or just 36 degrees. ;)
Why the spooky music? It is a distraction only!
I can't hear the music?
Thank you for showing this. :)
Best 😍😍 thank you
This was the most complicated thing I ever drawn lol
Really really helpful.
Thnks dude, really, really useful
Почему молча не коментируете размеры??
music?
Gut gemacht
Thank you!!!
What kind of compass is that? I would like to try that style of compass.
I did it! Thanks!
Alternative title: how to summon a demon to help you at math
Hahaha. I cant imagine seeing someone drawing a pentagram this accurate just to summon a demon. The accuracy doesnt matter actually.😂
"Satan, can you help me out here I don't know what 2+2 is"
Seems like an awful lot of work when all you need is to make the points 72 degrees apart. (360/5=72) this could have been done much simpler than what is shown.

bonjour, trop compliquer ton affaire , les russes font plus simple: th-cam.com/video/8nLefvXg-4s/w-d-xo.html
De todos los que vi, con este logré dibujarlo en poco segundos... muchas gracias..
Once again, circles ftw!
