Beautiful! I think I have listened to almost all of the versions available on TH-cam. In my humble opinion, you played the best version of this incredible tune yet! Thank You!
Love Leo Kottke... I truly enjoy your compositions and your playing... I play bass and guitar (by ear).. French Horn was my instrument (from 4th - 10th grade, and 9 months of piano when I was in 2nd or 3 rd grade). I grew up with mom (a harpist), dad (an arranger), and an aunt and uncle as harpists in the LA PHIL (for their entire careers)... I love and truly appreciate what you do... Keep on playing and writing.. Be safe and stay well... P.S.- wish I had a Martin too.. Yours sounds great..!
RDKingmusic!!! Tell your dad, I've seen hot tuna about 10 to 15 times. Spoken to Jorma and Jack. I've only seen Leo twice, but so great. Absolutely hilarious. Peter Green has a video playing embryonic journey but honestly, you are truly better. Great to hear from you! Tell your dad I'm 71 almost 72 years young.
Excellent!! A lot of guys cover this more slowly, probably because they can't play it faster, and it feels like that, not satisfying. I like the speed and crispness of your version. Bam. Cheers. 🙂
😄 Very poetic. And my attempt was like trying and failing to inflate a tyre tube for 20 minutes only to have it then slip from my fingers and fall into a river of molten lava! 😄
Bruh. Not kidding, you played this better than Kottke himself. I know that is blasphemous but as a lifelong Kottke fan I have never heard a better cover of one of his tunes. Give Orange Room a try next? ;)
That was an absolutely stunning performance, beautiful! Would you consider doing it one more time, much slower, the beautiful melody of that song needs to be savored at a much slower tempo. I'm going to subscribe and hope you give us an encore performance of this song at a slower tempo, I can't get enough of this one! Thanks so much!
To slow the tempo down you can click on the gear icon which allows you to change the quality and the speed of the video. You can play at 1/4 speed, 1/2 speed or 3/4 speed (or faster).
Beautiful performance, nothing wrong with playing it fast, but yeah, Kottke has those nuances in the timing. Never submit to the tyranny of the metronome.
Excellent, just like the great Leo himself!
He's one of the all-time greats! Thank you!
My Goodness. I am going to have to listen to this video about a thousand times.
Thanks Dennis! Love this piece!
How are you doing? I listen to it every time I see it in TH-cam recommendations, and always feel good! 🙂
That is a truly a beautiful song by Mr. Kottke.
Probably my favorite of his, although there are many greats!

I agree. Probably the best version ever. Do I dare say better than Jorma?
You've reached perfection with this one !
Not a note is missing.
Perfectly executed and one of the best tones, guitar and recording that I ever heard on TH-cam.

Absolutely stunning!
Fantastic. So great to hear someone so young appreciate Jorma and Leo.
I grew up listening to those guys! My dad used to take me to Hot Tuna concerts, so I got the full experience!

Thanks! I think it's best as an exuberant piece, although slower versions are nicer too!
Working on this myself right now. This version was like opening a door in a dark airless room and have a burst of golden light and air explode in.
Beautiful words! It's one of my all-time favorite fingerstyle pieces.

I appreciate that Mark! I'll always prefer Leo's version but I tried to put my own spin on it. Will consider Orange Room!
I'd much rather listen to this than the Brahms my brother sent me. Thanks!
This one has never sounded better! Wow
Thanks for listening!
Yeah! Miranda ❤️
That was a great one... He did justice to that
Besser als Leo🎸

Everyone else covers it more slowly, (because they have to), listen to the others if you want it slower.
well played, but a more precise tuning before recording would have been great.
A bit too fast...
No, he's the only one who doesn't cover it too slowly.
