- Carolina Eyck is a German-born musician who specializes in the theremin, one of the oldest electronic instruments--invented in 1920 by Russian physicist Leon Theremin. The most curious quality of the theremin is how its eeire and ethereal sound is manipulated without the performer actually touching it. Eyck is considered a virtuoso performer of the instrument, having won several awards and given concerts all over the world. Houston's Apollo Chamber Players brought Eyck to Houston to participate in a concert featuring original compositions by Eyck (for solo theremin and theremin with string quartet), as well as a work for theremin, oboe, piano and string quartet by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu. Eyck, with the Apollo Chamber Players, visited Houston Public Media's George B. Geary Performance Studio to record Eyck's original compositions "Jumping River (4th Movement - Fantasias for Theremin and String Quartet)" and "Soliloquy," as well as Eyck's arrangement of Ennio Morricone's iconic "The Ecstasy of Gold," from the film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. She also took some time explain how the unusual instrument works.
Like watching a sunset on another planet
what a great comparison!
As a guy that's not particularly emotional, I'm not ashamed to say I teared up when the top notes hit.
LOVE IT!!!!!!!
There are frequencies here, at which my eyes tear, and I get this indescribable feeling, a kind of numbness and pleasurable rush that comes over your entire being. Wonderful.
Yes poetry
ubertrance and it feels suffocating and you wanna go SOMEWHERE
Wtf
The theramin is good at hitting freqeunies that are less exact which means more resonant frequancies
I’ve never heard a theremin play such low pitches. I don’t know why. It sounds great.
I assume that the blue pedal she is pressing - harmonist - is an octavepedal of some kind. Indeed, sounds great :)
It takes a really good speaker. that's really the limiting factor on how low a theremin can go.
This is actually a fantastic example of the innovation of the Theremin and Eyck is savvy to choose it. Consider the song, it takes an example of the great compossor Morricone who brilliantly envisioned and used the human voice as an instrument. The Theremin takes this great idea goes one step further and takes the human body and uses it as an instrument. Wow!
God bless you!!
Such a piece gave me goosebumps and pushed me high on emotion. Thanks for sharing your passion for this instrument i just discover today.
Her smile at the end is really contagious
absolutely in love and will be eternally in your debt for such zen vibes.
EXCELLENT & POÉTIQUE
I love your additions to it.. You also made the melody (the soprano part) sound more resigned & vulnerable, like it's sensing the wealth will vanish as easily as it's got :)
Heavenly music. I feel so relaxed it is so well done.🌹🙏
Wow very amazing I've just discovered this instrument today
I could "shelter in place" listening to Carolina for a few weeks. Thank you for great vibes.
there are quite a few older and more experienced with the Theremin, but of all of them she outclasses them all since she has figured out how to harness the instrument perfectly and play it 100% perfectly every time with her own method of getting an accurate key out of it. this lady is amazing.
I just discovered this instrument today.. and you’re the best at it! 🤘🏻
Schon sehr lange her …
Tausend Dank!
This got me crying in class its so beautiful
Hypnotic
Absolutely incredible! You’re insanely talented Carolina.
This instrument is so rare and unique that the most famous person to ever played it is Carolina Eyck
Jimmy Page
Clara Rockmore, Leon Theremin.

What sorcery is thisssss
Mesmerizante.
All your vocalizing parts reminded me of Pentatonix, and I thought, “How cool would it be for them to do a cover like this, with you on the theremin?” Just a thought.
I agree
Why don’t you have 10 million views already!?
Probably not prepared to sell her soul ,To the powers that run the TH-cam platform. 🤔🙏❤✝️
its like the music of zelda
bowzer's reaction pit brought me here! woooooo
Same.
Play around with it enough and you'll feel the non-existent strings.

Бляяяя! Выходи за меня замуж!!!!!
My prediction is, it doesn't have a great future. Like some medieval instruments, they are there but no one is using them. :-))
