It wouldn’t give me confidence in buying anything on launch day MSRP ever again from a partner, which isn’t right because supporting partner stores should always be priority #1 but if you wait a few weeks and get 50% off your purchase…. It’s hard to pass that up.
They did refund the people that paid $300 their $150 (or so) back. So, that is a good thing. The bad thing is that, like you said, it absolutely destroys Partners. The set has been out for less than a month and it is already being sold close to half of MSRP. Aside from preorders, how can a partner make any money in those conditions? I thought these collectors boxes were very overpriced and unnecessary from the jump. One Kuromi product would have been more than enough. Hopefully the Claires/Hot Topic drops spark interest from people outside of the Metazoo world to eat up this stock. If not, prices will plummet just like UFO and Wilderness. All are great and fun products, but printed out of line with demand.

I received a 50% refund on each collector box today out of the blue…tons of people did. Also if you look at the lower right corner of the booster boxes they are different in the collector box. Look closely...only Hello Kitty is pictured. What we don’t know is if there are exclusive hits inside? At $150 it’s a killer deal imo!
This box set not selling well is more of an indictment on Metazoo's healthy as a whole. If a collab with one of the largest brands in the world (counting kids AND adults) can't move the needle on product, then what does that mean for a Metazoo set without appeal to outsiders? Not to mention what this means for courting investors. I'm sorry but your favorite game is nearing death
I think it just comes down to the core MZ players and collectors not being interested in the Chibi style art and the small set size is a turn off as well as hello kitty altogether. Everyone I have talked to in regards to what they want in the Halloween/fall set release pretty much wanted more seance/nightfall style art and the added gameplay mechanics that seance brought. Also native is outselling this set lol.

They’re taking a page out of the Hasbro/WOTC book. We got one true core set this year and have no idea when the next one will be. There’s no consistency with what the company does and the expected ‘value’ of the products is a falling needle. Death knell. It’s a shame because I really love the concept and design of the metazoo products, but it’s very difficult to understand what the management team thinks they’re doing!

Everyone ive talked to about this set; those who are still fans of metazoo at least wanted a nightfall style set for Halloween or at least something similar. With no clumping issues and larger set size.

Maybe with different foil patterns, a unique stamp, and possibly a lot of alternate art. When someone told me nope, these are just the same as regular boosters it was a NO for me. I just assumed they were different, but I also think it's a bad ploy to call anything collector's edition and in reality there is nothing to distinguish it as such.

Someone made an interesting comment in another video, I forget who, but it was essentially that Metazoo seems to print newer stuff always going for the bigger chase that unfortunately knocks out the relevancy of staple cards in older sets. Which means they push things so hard it overshadows past sets, rendering them less valuable. I hope this is not an ongoing thing. I can't see any reason Kickstarter and 1st edition should have tanked the way it did. But I also don't exactly see what made them shoot up in value so quickly either.
Sadly, not surprised. Likely 0 people from the hello kitty collector realm (aka mostly women if I were to guess) are going to care about this, and the average 28-35 year old men who like Metazoo, also don't care and are leery about Metazoo currently anyway.
Personally, if I had to buy anything Metazoo, I'm always buying Native. It hits all the boxes, great for collector's, players and the evil investors. From my understanding, this product is more for collectors and speaking as a zoo collector, Im skipping this set cuz I have 0 want/ like/ care foe Hello Kitty. Just saving money for SPC and Legacy!

I think it's a good move overall to lower the price of this KCC collector's box so it's more accessible now. I do feel bad for those that purchased early at MSRP though - I was able to purchase at distributor prices and that's just slightly cheaper than the price per box in this collector set. I wonder how the secondary market prices will shift due to this 50% sale
If the original available quantity of 7,000 is real, and these are nowhere near selling that amount yet, I think it’s safe to say individual booster boxes will sell for $75 or under and never higher since these will seemingly indefinitely always be in stock. The only exception I can think of is if someone can only afford one booster box at like $80 instead of $150 for two.
Reminds me of how wizards used to do the Amazon dumps a couple months after a MtG release. TCG player really dumping product. I do think a lot of it has to do with the economy. I wish I had the money because I’d be buying boxes left and right.

I was happy to get a $150 refund back, but not happy with the fact that MZ continues to shit on their partners. They are truly running a playbook on how to do everything wrong, and I'm at the point where as a fan of the game, it's hard for me to be enthusiastic about anything MetaZoo. Nick I think you are being a bit too hard on Metazoo. Tcg player did refund $164.00 per collectors box for everyone who purchased the product on preorder. I think that is pretty fair. I think the only real fail in all this situation is that we have another company catering to a feminine market and that market did not support back. All these companies need to remember their core audience and hold them to the highest esteem. Metazoo needs to refocus their energies and stop making the same mistakes. As for this Hello Kitty set, they did just as much as anyone could ask for since now they would be sitting on too much product . Its better to cut the cost and move on to the next venture and its a bonus that they refunded everyone's purchase who preordered. On a side note I would like to wager that most of Sanrio fans probably don't even know this set exists. Its a real shame this was not advertised on cartoon channels, TH-cam or with print at Clares and similar locations many months before it was released. Word of mouth advertising is a slow snowballing effect. There needs to be a more aggressive advertising strategy.
