- Do you know when to use OLVIDÉ o SE ME OLVIDÓ? There are 3 different ways to say “to forget” in Spanish.
En este video vamos a ver la diferencia entre OLVIDAR, OLVIDARSE y OLVIDÁRSELE. Son estructuras diferentes que debes saber usar.
Y como siempre veremos muchos ejemplos en el presente, pasado, futuro, subjuntivo e imperativo usando el verbo olvidar en español.

una presentación fabulosa, Paula:-) Olvidarsele es tan, tan común y no hay ningún sentido en inglés que expresa esta idea con exactitud....ok, quizás "it slipped my mind".
Exacto. Ese es la única “traducción” que tiene un poco de sentido como equivalente en inglés.

Super video! ¡Gracias! Two questions: (1) In the sentence "Yesterday, we forgot to pick up the medical results", you used "olvidó" with "los resultados", but in the sentence: "I forgot some details", you used "olvidaron". Why is olvidar singular in the first sentence and plural in the second sentence? (2) Exactly what does "se" mean in these sentences? To my English-speaking brain, it seems like a completely unnecessary word. ¡Gracias, otra vez!

Buena práctica, solo un detalle, el verbo to forget no es regular sino irregular, no obstante gracias por los ejemplos

En el video indico que, es regular cuando explico el primer uso del verbo “olvidar” refiriéndome a la conjugación, dado que se conjuga como cualquier otro verbo regular terminado en “-AR”.

Hola Claire. “Olvidé de” no es correcto. Si vas a usar la preposición “de” necesitas el pronombre reflexivo.
Puedes decir “olvidé llamar a mi hermana”,
“Me olvidé de llamar a mi hermana” o “Se me olvidó llamar a mi hermana”

Me gusta el vídeo pero todavía estoy un poco confundido. Para la forma "olvidarsele" muestras el patrón de "Se + Pronombre indirecto + verbo en tercera persona + cumplido directo". Sin embargo, varios de sus ejemplos no tienen el verbo en tercera persona y parece que podrían haber usado simplemente olvidar, como "Alfonso olvidó la clave de su correo" cuando no hay un verbo en tercera persona. ¿Es sólo una elección personal?

Yo creo que no hay diferencia. Devolverse se usa más en América Latina en lugar de volver...como olvidar y olvidarse, solo son dos formas de decir lo mismo.

what is difference between ....yo olvide apagar luz and yo me olvide de apagar luz...in both sentences I FORGOT..... isn t it ?
Both are correct, but the first one is slightly more common.
Tengo una pregunta. En la oracion
"Se me OLVIDARON algunos detalles." ¿Por que no usar OViDÓ o OVIDA?
In other words why is this in the third person PLURAL? All the other examples in the ocidarsele form are singular?
I really started to notice this when I wrote down all the examples in the ovidarsele form. There were only a kut 12 of them so that this was not very hard and it really gave me a chance to look at the structure. Oh example sentence:
Se me ovidó amor.
The love of my life forgot
Love.forgot itself to me.
This translation is very poor English but I think might be the best.
Se ovidó amor.
Is "love forgot itself' so
Se me ovidó amor.
Would be love forgot itself to me.
En la oración “se me olvidaron algunos detalles” The thing forgotten is plural, that’s why we use the third person plural, otherwise we’ll use the third person singular.
Se me olvidó la llave (singular)
Se me olvidaron laS llaveS (plural)
And for verbs we always use the singular one.
As for the example: Se me olvidó amor. What’s going on here is “Amor” is used as a way to call our partner. So, let’s imagine that Maria says to Juan: ¿compraste el pan? (Did you buy bread) and Juan tells her: Se me olvidó, amor (I forgot it, love).
@@SpeakSpanishWithPaula What I really wanted to do is forget about love as a verb. In other words I loved her, (love as a verb) but the love I felt forgot itself. It wasn't my fault. The act of my love forgetting itself through no fault of my own was something that my felling of love did to me, not something I did myself. So it's not my fault. This is something you can't really say in English because we can't use Se to avoid blame.
Se me ovidó que me ella amar.
Sure that still isn't quite right. But I tried again.
Eric - think of it this way: it's a passive voice that diffuses any blame -
the details have gone and forgotten themselves on me again.
when I left the house the keys were forgotten (by me)
This is your first video that I didn’t like. You described the three different structures, but said nothing about when to use them or how the meaning changes between them. Every written translation looked as though it meant nothing different than the simple use of olvidar in the present indicative or preterit.
