    I always liked how the scenery looks rich on xplane. Msfs looks more like the real thing but is washed out over a certain altitude. You can tweak anything and everything to try to get it better but nothing makes it look like I wish it did. I love weather and haze but also wish I could clear the weather and it would look beautiful as far as the eye can see more like fsx did.

    Goes to show that sunlight is not properly simulated in Xplane 12. I mean the light values are correct but the light isn't actually being absorbed by the ground and bouncing back hence making it very dark. Global illumination needs work.

  • @ddsdss256
    @ddsdss256 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Related to some other comments, it would be nice to have the ability to decrease the contrast between the panel and the outside. Our eyes adjust more than XP shows and there are many times where the panel's just too dark to see. In some cases, you can use a flood/map light (or virtual flashlight) but not always, and it's obviously essential to be able to see all knobs/switches/etc., regardless of the ambient lighting.
    Re the video--thanks for the time/effort/Jet-A, Austin (I know--any excuse to get up there)! I'd just add that I'd rather hear the actual v. XP sounds (at normal speed, of course) rather than the EDM. Also, NBD, but maybe try adjusting your video frame rate next time to avoid the rolling shutter (even Scimitars aren't that curved!)...

    Just curious. Is the higher contrast and lower exposure in the simulator due to limitations of the camera used in your capture? Or is it more aeesthetic? Or perhaps because of the canopy?

    • @jorn-jorenjorenson5028
      @jorn-jorenjorenson5028 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, interesting question, asked that myself too. I think the camera footage is a bit overexposed.
      To say what would be "real" is hard to say ofc, because monitors and perception probably varies a lot. Also when looking at a monitor, we probably compare it to what we are used to see there, which usually is something filmed by a camera. And I think XP12 tries to simulate what it looks like to the eye, not to a camera, which is the right decision imho.
      For my personal feeling or taste, XP12 now seems a little underexposed. (I liked the "nuclear sun" of early betas, btw., felt somewhat real to me.)
      Maybe an exposure slider would be something to consider? To be able to adopt to the used monitor and personal preference/perception.

    • @thedan2459
      @thedan2459 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can see that the camera is setup for a higher exposure. Austins Hands and sometimes the Panel is overexposed. The virtual camera is likely operating in a realm where we don't get any overexposure which is my preference too.

      I don’t think so because when he took off you’re able to see the exact opposite thing happen where the plane raised up in altitude suddenly. I suspect that he imported some sort of positioning record from his real flight into the flight simulator for it to replicate so that all of the movements and timing would be the same. That’s the only way it makes sense to me since everything was perfectly matched on both sides which would literally be impossible no matter how hard you try.

      The program that recorded their real flight stopped recording for a second, then started recording once on the ground again. This is Xavions fault, nothing to do with x-plane

      Es ist ein Replay der Flugdaten, die Austin beim echten Flug aufgezeichnet hat. Die Position des Flugzeugs wurde dabei per GPS aufgezeichnet. GPS-Koordinaten haben eine maximale Genauigkeit von etwa 4m (oft auch ungenauer) und schwanken deshalb oft um einige Meter hin und her.
      Wenn man im Simulator fliegt (oder einen Simulator-Flug im Replay anschaut) passiert das natürlich nicht. Die Flugphysik von XP12 ist extrem gut.

    In which version of the simulator will real weather and winter with snow appear? 12.55 or already at 13.00? 🤨

    • @jorn-jorenjorenson5028
      @jorn-jorenjorenson5028 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is in 12.00 already. Though there is a bug atm, where real weather is totally off sometimes. Also, when you start a flight in winter/snowy conditions, it usually has no snow on the ground, you have to wait for snow to accumulate and then the scenery gradually will get snow cover.
      Both are known issues and are worked on already.

    So unrealistic. The one on the right had no pilot! Seriously though. Very well done guys. X-Plane is looking mighty impressive. Just need tweak a few things and improve the performance. Even top-end hardware struggles. Especially with multiple monitors.

    Jesus some of these comments 🤬
    *Why’s the plane sliding about on the runway and taxi way that’s not real*
    That’s because of the wonderful accuracy of GPS and the real time delay. If you gonna comment try research it before hand most GPS units will tell you the accuracy it is normally +/- 1m and the real time delay.
    *The prop isn’t accurate*
    🤦🏼‍♂️ read up on camera frame rate. The prop in XP is how a prop looks to the human eye in the real world.
    Cmon folks even if you don’t know because you’ve never seen it first hand there’s literally an whole world of information and data at your fingers tip. FML I had to travel 6 miles to the local library to read up on this shit whilst studying electrical engineering and undertaking my Photography exams. There’s no real excuse.
    Cockpit lighting does need some work though. It’s not easy to replicate the 1000s of adjustments the human eye makes in a second or two in any sim.

    Not sure what to think about this. The inputs (throttle/flaps/...) do not seem to be changing in XP. Is XP playing back a GPS capture or is it modeling the flight in real time? Sorry, not a pilot or sim pilot.

    I love the reality of the scenery in xplane, but the airplane performance always seems to be much more unstable than a real aircraft. Unless you're using the autopilot, you're constantly fighting to keep the aircraft upright. I know the controls can be tweaked but I've never had much luck doing that. For some reason, in the new xplane 12 version, aircraft all want to pull hard to the left, even without a lot of throttle.

      Torque effect baby ...

    • @danielmartinsson899
      @danielmartinsson899 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Torque, weight, speed etc. Just pause and imagine what you are doing here for a moment. You are trying to simulate real life behavior but you can only to that to a certain extent. The plane probably act like it should in the sim, but you as a person are limited in several ways in front of your computer. You don't get the vibrations, you don't feel how things move, you completely lack the sense of depth and the sense of speed is limited.
      Just adding a pair of VR googles make the experience so much better and easier to control. I find trimming a small plane quite hard using the monitor but it's way much easier in VR when you have a much better awareness of your vertical direction. One of the biggest beginner faults is that you over control. Be more gentle and look further down the rw and things will become easier with some practice.

    Very interesting, not the least in terms of exposing the differences between x-plane and reality, don't get me wrong, I love x-plane and always have, and always will, but I have always felt that it was way too lively on the taxiways and at take-off, like I have always felt that houses and roads (and rivers) always have stood out too much, and this video does confirm both (< houses etc at for instance at 3:05).
    - The great thing about it is that toning down the drawing of the houses/roads etc, most likely will mean a performance relief/increase, or it can be changed to draw things like bushes and shrub in the gardens, rather than super-sharp houses and not the least pavements....??? ;- )
    And that x-plane is too lively on the taxi- and runways, might be something about the friction between tyre and astphalt, and too short latency, which it might be relatively easy to correct for....???

    Not good at all I don't know if people in the comment watched the same video that I just watched, the graphics sucks, the readings of instruments are not accurate and don't match the real thing , physics X-plane one is flying on rails while there's some shaking in real life , I'm sure Msfs would've done far better job on this comparison.

      You never see the blades of a spinning prop in real life. Only a camera sees them (because of the shutter speed). X-Plane simulates what your eyes see, not a camera. For the same reason there are no lens flares and such effects.

      It is playing back the GPS coordinates of the plane recorded in the real flight. GPS coordinates are not exact at all, that's why the glitching. Of that does not happen when flying in the sim or playing back a sim flight.

  • @PavelRybka
    @PavelRybka 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    sim is way too dark compared to the video. Ok, it is a camera, not the eyes, but still, what i see on a video side is more relevant to what i see with my eyes in terms of exposure. No clouds to compare. In terms of ground scenery, i don't know, if this video advertise XP12 or doing opposite. I'm an avid fan of XP since yearly XP10, but now the picture of MSFS outweights XP's superior flight model. Addon aircrafts for MSFS getting better and better. But still, when you hand fly anything from 737 to a Kodiak, i like how it feels in XP better.
