Thank you for posting this. It has helped me to better understand the difficulty that the visually impaired face.

Neat idea. I believe the sound might need to. Be brought up and I felt the almost subliminal throbbing thumb in it too that jets your eardrums. Thank you.

You’re welcome! We sincerely wish we could have developed this series further and made improvements to video, audio, and presentation quality however, shortly after this video was produced one of the individuals responsible graduated and took a job in the field he was studying in and another left the University to pursue a job at another college.

Is there a way to make Jaws skip a particular character, i.e. , () parentheses.

    • @Aaron-dv2rm

If a person with a visual impairment doesn't need the parentheses why should a person who can see clearly?

    • @BlindMansRevenge2002

There are adjustments within the software settings for things like verbosity and the announcement of particular types of punctuation. However, something like a parentheses is very important to someone using a screen mirror especially if they are using it for stem activities like solving algebraic equations. In that particular instance you would not want to skip something like a parentheses.

Enterprise IT policy restricted browser choice to Internet explore on the university owned laptop that was used for the demonstration! If the series would have continued other browsers were planned on being demonstrated however, the individuals responsible for the production of this video moved on to other jobs

The production value of the video may not have been the greatest but, one person‘s annoyance is another’s independence! The view was appreciated!

How is someone who is blind supposed to see this?

If we have some familiarity with how a screenreader works, it's really not that difficult to grasp what's happening audibly. It would be nice if an updated video was posted with the computer running windows 10 and the latest version of JAWS, which is 2021 whatever was released earlier this month. Internet explorer has been dead for a while now; Google chrome is a much more responsive web browser.

At the time this video was produced the laptop that was used for the demo was property of the University and was restricted to Windows 7. Even though Windows 10 had been released to users two years earlier the universities enterprise IT service had not approve the use of Windows 10.

That voice is terrible. Macs have much better voices.

This is a demonstration, anyone who relies on screen readers can buy different voices. Maybe this is the preferred voice for the man who was demonstrating this.

@@maggieblyth2077 you are correct! Jaws eloquence or the default speech synthesizer for the software program was his synthesizer of choice. However, he did use Apple products and with iOS devices he used a more natural sounding speech synthesizer.

I’ve had that voice for so many years on my computer that I have no desire of changing it whatsoever.
