I’m in a Rory Sutherland rabbit hole atm. Nice interview mate, hope it continues to grow here for you. Worst case, you’ve held conversations for hours on end with interesting people. All has value
Thank you so much mate !! Yep, TH-cam is very new for us - but if we keep showing up, fingers crossed it'll blossom into something great. Please feel free to subscribe and tell all your pals hahah
I love how the camera angle, with Dan seemingly not facing Rory, makes it look like 2 strangers waiting for a job interview and just so happening to have a profoundly extensive discussion about the world 😄
I understand you probably have a lot of things going on, but your consistent distractions and tinkering makes it seem you aren't listening to your guest. Otherwise a great podcast.
Listened to two hours of this in the background and it is wild how you guys (mainly Rory) interrupt each other. Rory: "Ah well the interesting thing is!"... Host: "Have you been to New Maulden (was likely going to make a point about the Korean population)... Where do you like?" Rory: "Well I can't remember but anyway this place by Charing Cross"... I can't believe you guys are in the same room - more interruptions than a big group Zoom call...
I can listen to this podcast but I can’t watch it. Interviewer looking too distracted and bored. I love listening to Rory though. He’s a fascinating guy with a lot of knowledge.
Rory as good as always…..interviewer not good enough to be host Rory for sure. The interruptions, asking for clarifications being disengaged are all very annoying.
@@HungryFMCG you must be someone’s son to have even gotten the interview. nepotism baby much? that, or you don’t mind tying your hair back and whistling till the cows come home
I agree. Podcast is great, definitely should have more views. Keep going. Should have asked Rory to point you in the directions of some of the marketing experts. Rory is always good value
What you should do, likely what you’re already doing, is as Martin said above. Once you’ve got a good guest, see if said guest can point you to another guest - maybe even make the intro easier.
@@HungryFMCG Great content! Possibly a little late to the party on the viewing figures... my thought would be the video length. For a TH-cam version of the podcast it's quite intimidating to see something at 2.5 hours (it's taken me months to decide to take the plunge). Perhaps break it down into 30-40 minute sections to make it a little more approachable? With the added advantage of more videos for the same content.
Everytime the host is making a point, Sutherland interrupts him and his thought process. The worst thing about this is the host just lets him do it, an example of it is here 29.00
I think there is a well worn trope in business that you should always produce a product for a broad audience and not for a niche audience. For example an adult theme park would seem to go against the idea of a broad audience because you are excluding a large group and therefore limiting your potential profit, but this just homogenises these groups to the common denominator, IE. family friendly. Its the same reason that films or brands such as Star Wars are unable to serve the original audience and are therefore stuck serving nobody. Perhaps, from a business perspective, it does make sense but my feeling is that so many brands could be so much more inventive if they played to a more specific audience.
If Rory interrupts you mid-sentence, I would rather hear what he has to say than you. After all, he is the one being interviewed and this isn’t his first rodeo.
Feedback from someone who listens to a lot of Rory for the host. - It appeared like you weren't that interested in Rory and even frustrated from your body language & there was a lot of interrupting from you. People are here primarily to listen to Rory and you're there (in my view) to host Rory and ensure you get through x, y and z content. It felt too much like you were trying to tell your stories. Hope that helps 🙌
thanks for feed back. few bits. 1. I am moving around because not only am I hosting Rory, I am the sound engineer checking the audio and videographer checking the video. I am one man band on a budget and don't have the luxury of a producer, and vidoegrapher. 2. What you've described is an INTERVIEW. I assume it’s the pit fall of someone who has a lot of head knowledge about production. I’ve seen it happen a lot as a fashion photographer … where a photographer spends most his time ‘perfecting’ the lighting and angle and depth of field … instead of talking to the subject/model. Sure it’s a technical masterpiece - but lacks conncection. We tend to focus on the things we can control and are proficient in.

This host out of his depth, isn’t he! Got the table / chairs set up all wrong. Looking away seemingly disinterested most of the time - the split screen doesn’t work in this case. Wow. Rory stupendous as always.
Couldn’t help but notice that these two have some very strange body language going on. Rory sometimes turning his back on this dude in what seems like an act of dominance, or alternatively sitting at right angles respectively staring off into space. Almost like this guy is a prop, a launching pad for Rory to spout off into soliloquies on one topic or another. Thoroughly love Rory’s insights. Man is a genius. Left wondering thoough if their lack of chemistry is the fault of Rory or the young dude.
Omg 5 mins in and this guy just can't pay attention to Rory. Painful to watch. Its like if ADHD and cocaine had a big day together. He's talking to other people doing other stuff can't stop touching his face.
