- This is an in depth tutorial on how to use the Motif XS vocoder. Subjects covered are: which microphone to use for vocoding, how to connect the mic, how to set up the parameters from utility mode and a short demo of the 4 basic vocoder voices from the Motif XS ROM.

Man Thanks!! The manual of the motif XS was not helpful in terms of where to find Vocoder voices. It Only instructed on how to set up the vocoder but the voices were an issue till I saw this video.

Thank you for this, I had a problem using the vocoder and the reason was at the back of the A\D Input L there is a GAIN Knob... Turn it and that will make the mic work.
@Justin Curry: I have never used the vocoder myself, but to record with the vocoder I'd imagine you'd need to have installed DIMM modules to be able to use the integrated sampling feature. I will try this out as soon as I've gotten ahold of a dynamic microphone.

yup i did everything 100% does it matter if mic plugs into the amp and not the keyboard? because my mic connects to the amp then a cable connects from my amp to my keyboard

I wanna thank you also for this video man.. it just helped me A LOT.. but my question is.. can I find some other nice features with the motif xs cause when I had a motif I had a plg100vh board on it. And chorus and other effects were really nice.. but I'd like to see if you can let me know of other nice features besides vocoder?! Any clue?! thanks again brother...

Hi, I have purchased a condenser microphone to conect it to my XS6 and it doesn´t work. I tried to bring up the gain but it doesn´t sounds. Do I need any device to conect betwin the mic and the XS?

I know this video is old but still thank you for taking the time out to make this type of videos. If you have the time to answer please do but if not I understand. Can you record events/automation within the pattern mode such as individual track volume and mute than carry the whole thing over to song mode or can this only be done within song mode?

HOW CAN I USE THE VOCODER IN A SONG THAT I RECORDED IN THE MOTIF?! cause everytime I use the vocoder preset I only get a metalic sound like a saw but no words ... what kind of microphone can I use? Because I tried with a regular microphone but I cant use vocoder
only dynamic mics can use vocoder? cause i dont want to spend $500 on firestudio and then $100 on a dynamic mic, can u recomend any mic that is dynamic but doesnt use phantom power?

Doesn't seem to be working on my XS6. I had it working the other day, not sure what I did differently. I have a dynamic mic, Shure Sm58, the mic and the cable are fine, verified them separately both directly through my amp as well as through my audio interface. Through the XS6 A/D insL, however, nothing.
I just set this up on my MXS6 with a dynamic mic and it works! Don't forget the part about settings in Utility Mode; Voice Audio; Output Select; ins L. Also the little Gain knob! Woot!
@@Islander2112 Yes, apparently also make sure that the AD/L is set for mic not line, or vice versa.
@@michaelwplde What's funny from here is that I'm a guitarist that has a bad case of Keyboarditis, not related to Covid, anyway, I scored this XS6 two years ago, and It is awesome!
I don't care about the recording features, but the voices are incredible! Back on subject, I have to reset the Vocoder settings after rebooting the Motif here. It's a cool tool, but limited I suppose. It seems like autotune before there was autotune, lol

ok i need some more help, i bought an amp and dynamic mic... the mic plugs into the amp not into the motif. so i plugged the amp cable into the L of the A/D output and followed ur steps and it doesnt work.. im not good at this stuff so can u help? if u work it out i promise to subscribe!
