Absoloutely. I love this especially the music. I am a big fan of auricula theatres too. Harry was such a natural presenter. A very healing programme to watch and paired beautifully with Mother Nature.
Wonderful to see and hear this again....32 years back! Oh my! Spent my life working with plants. Only those that do it truly get it. Harry - a total legend.
snipper1ie --- BBC still produce world class documentaries, Planet Earth, Blue Planet, lots of science docs, you don't have to watch the ITV trash, I don't.
'England' also produced TV series that were awful back then. It's subjective. Some may have enjoyed Mr and Mrs etc. We all can suffer from nostalgia, we all think things were better when we were young; and mainly this is because we were young, fit, healthy, full of optimism. I don't watch Love Island. I do, however, search out the good TV series from yesteryear. I'll not be watching the ones I didn't like back then. I won't be making any drastic decisions based on nostalgia though.
Same. I'm 46 and surprised I was glued to the screen watching these series in my childhood. I loved them! That and theme tunes like the one from Howard's Way, Dogtanian and the Muskehounds, and Champion The Wonder Horse!
Such a wonderful series, I think we are so fortunate that they took the decision at the time to make these wonderful series of programmes with true artisans who freely gave their knowledge, all so luckly adapted to filming so naturally. Thanks again for posting
I first ran across this serie back when it was running on tv. I fell in love with it and ordered both books that I still tresure to this day. Wonderful Mr. Dobson
I absolutely loved this absolutely delightful programme when it first came out - in the late 90s by my recollection. I loved every episode, I loved the gardener, I loved the music. I tried to record it at the time but there was a fault somewhere and my recording was unwatchable. I have been searching for it ever since and am so pleased to have rediscovered it again on TH-cam, where I have discovered a treasure trove of old favourites. To add extra interest - since I first saw the programme I have discovered that my great great grandfather was indeed a Victorian Gardener, working for large estates in Cheshire. If the espaliered pear on the side of his own house is any indication of his skills, he was good at this trade!
This was the best series the BBC ever produced, simple, delightful and educational with real pleasant people like Harry and not any of those false brash celebrities with huge egos and bank balances,
loved this programme ..it's back on TV on Home channel but it's on late at night . Harry Dodson reminds me of my grandad a wonderful grower of flowers n veg ..he was also called Harry
Thank you so much for posting these. I saw this series when it was aired on a Public Broadcasting Station (PBS) in the years 1990 and later on, loved it so much that I bought the whole thing - 3 CDs altogether. There was also 'The Kitchen Garden" with Harry Dodson, Peter Thoday and Ruth Mott with Allison too, that was included in the CDs box, a most interesting series too as we learned how the gardener had to provide the owner's kitchen cook for different meal types: Breakfast, Lunch, Tea time, Picnics, Dinners and the formal reception.
Harry Dodson I am a fan, wish you were still here:)! You could do anything!!! You were the master gardener and so fun:)! Thank you for keeping these educational videos out:)! I love the tiny begonias and gorgeous primal along with all the stories about the boilers and the painted glass!
just came in from the garden for a rest and found this show, great relaxing half hour on my favourite hobby, thanks John. Jeff Hamilton got me started, I'm sure you remember him.
Have a listen to the musical theme of the BBC 1989 adaptation of Tom's Midnight Garden. It's by the same composer - Paul Reade - and is just as captivating.
@@alexandrapopusoi6965 : All the glass houses are gone. The enclosed areas are entirely turf today. The potting sheds and other brick structures are fine, as is the cork-covered fruit house. I have read that the glass houses were actually in terrible shape and were fixed up just enough to hold together for the filming. At some point, the lead roof was stripped off the house where Mr. Dodson lived, but the house has been re-roofed with shingles and was still standing a few years ago.
I don't remember The Victorian Flower Garden, but I can remember bits of The Victorian Kitchen Garden and The Victorian Kitchen, although I can't remember if the same theme was used on The Victorian Kitchen. I also vaguely remember The Wartime Kitchen and Garden
I loved this series and have been looking for it for such a long time, thank you for sharing it and I can’t tell you how happy I am now that I can watch it again 😊😊😊 so sad the kitchen series isn’t available where I am
Harry Dodson, such a true gentleman! Sad to say not many of his elk left in the world, you have to search them out. The crock grinder was so fascinating,, my word! Nothing went to waste my approval. even today I recycle what I can, even stones! This is a lovely series, hope to follow through and have a better understanding of the British hot houses, absolutely fascinating.
What an excellent series! So informative and relaxing. Thank you for posting these. We were glad to find the Victorian Kitchen Garden series on dailymotion, thanks to a commenter below for mentioning it. They have all but one part. Still very good. But hoping someone knows where we can find Victorian Kitchen series, or any of these programs on DVD...???
Thank you for putting this up. I remember watching this with my grandfather when I was very small. Is there a chance you could put up the other season from this series. The Victoria Kitchen. I can remember an episode with the most amazing strawberry ice cream in a strawberry shape mould. I must of been about 4 years old. Thanks Anna x
I got ferns that volunteered. LOL. But then this is Florida. I have one that came in under the sliding glass doors in my bathroom. The mostly grow and divide by rhizome.
Beats me, I guess they just didn’t try hard enough..no seriously it was a brilliant program, a program you looked forward to seeing….not that long ago, but now a lost world
I loved all these shows Victorian kitchen anc Victofian garden, wish there were more.War time stuff not so much, not a whole lot of fun when you lived through it!
THANKS this is great.... we once lived in an victorian house and the next doors had the same wonderful greenhouse but when i last past it had gone ( greenhouse )
Our house, built in1923, stood on large plot had one of those gorgeous wood framed greenhouse complete with boilers/heaters. At this time the property was run as a market garden. Sadly the plot was split in '70's and when we moved in '87 the greenhouse was their side of fence.😞😞 It was used though, if never heated, did look good though.
Thanks so much for this. I don't know why I did not find your posting before. But it is simply wonderful. Appreciate the time you took to upload and share.
I love this music and program I wish I could have watched it when it was aired on TV thank you for posting this I am enjoying it watching it very much .
I found them on DVD.... I am in Canada and had to switch them over as the British system is different..... Still watch it every year.....great show.....a time when life wasn't as rushed..... Or maybe that what we would like to think...🌞
This is one of the best gardening shows the BBC ever made. Wonderfully atmospheric, with the music really adding something special.
Absoloutely. I love this especially the music. I am a big fan of auricula theatres too. Harry was such a natural presenter. A very healing programme to watch and paired beautifully with Mother Nature.

This & the Victorian Kitchen Garden were wonderful programs...life was simpler then & gentle
Don't forget about the ww2 home front series, I love them all, classic tv
Harry-always with a tie and a smile. A wise and wonderful old country gentleman. I've so much respect for a person like him!
England produced this, one of the best series ever broadcast, along with the Survival series. Nowadays, it's Love Island. Words fail me

That music always brings a tear of nostalgia to my eye.
Don't. Miss Geoff Hamilton. Such inspiration.

I remember this series so well and I absolutely loved it. Harry was such a lovely person.
He was and Ruth nott
Those gents - Thoday and Dodson helped to preserve so much know how and passion for gardening.
there have been complaints about ads in the episodes. This was not my idea and I have no control over.
ad block!
If that is the worst complaint people have Man, they don't have real problems.

What a lovely program! Thank you for posting it! As an American, I appreciate how much we've likely learned from our Over-there friends!
Enchanting and inspiring. Loved it. God bless Harry.

For me this series and a passion for angling are quite similar, both beautifully made works of art 👍

Loved this series and the others as well a lost way of life very sad hearing about the garden and Harrys cottage
