Love that. Can't imagine playing with gloves though. The cow thing and the mustache, sure, but gloves??? Wow.

Great playing! Love the way you bring in so many variations, & with such skill & nuance. You really explore several different ways of expressing "Parson's Farewell." Also, I'm impressed by how skillfully you control the airflow by changing how quickly/slowly or vigorously/gently you manipulate the bellows. Very well done! I'm learning a lot by studying your playing of the Giordy.

Peter Tommerup Thanks, Peter. It’s a while since I recorded...or even watched...these. Thanks for reminding me to go back and see them again.

Your "Giordy" videos are really fun & a wonderful resource for getting ideas about what one can do on one of these little boxes! Hope you post more sometime.

wow...what an excellent little squeezebox that is.......and great video sound quality..
.I have just had a thought (beginner's luck I hear you say!)...
with all those excellent 'guises ....how do we know that the player on each of your videos is not some world renowned maestro.

But I think GB Handlebar IS a world renowned maestro.

I think gloves make any mask/costume much better anyway and yours go very well together. :)

@Gary Chapin @NForest82 - Thanks for the comments, guys. As far as playing in gloves goes - yes, it's a bit more difficult, but the choice of gloves can help a lot. It's good if you can find some that aren't too slippy on the buttons. As for knowing whether it's always the same person inside the costumes - well, I guess that should be left as a mystery! :0)

Wonderful video & playing! How did you ever think of this costume to go with the playing of that tune? But, it works wonderfully!

I don’t really remember what inspired the costume, as it was a while ago. I guess something had been on my mind the gave me the spark!

Very beautiful! And I'm impressed that such a song can be played on a tiny accordion like this. I was thinking about purchasing a giordy because I need a very lightweight one. But although I printed out the key row layout from the maker , I can't figure out if the key range is sufficient for many songs. For example, would it be possible to play the Wellerman Song or Butterfly slip jig or King of the fairies on a Giordy?

@@annabell3619 Hi, thanks for the comment. Potentially, the key and keyboard layout can be customized to whatever you want. For the tunes you mention, in their standard keys, a regular D/G layout works, with the top row being (D/F#) - (G/A) - (B/C) - (D/E) - (G/F#) - (B/A) and the bottom row being (D/E) - (F#/G) - (A/B) - (D/C#) - (F#/E) - (A/G). That gives you a similar range to a stand D whistle, for example, so there’s potentially a lot you can do with it. Note, though, that the setup of the ‘bass’/chord buttons is a bit different to regular melodeons, as it’s really just a normal chord spread over the button pairs with no actual bass notes. Also, the bellows sensitivity on these is very high, which can be a big issue for some people. Something like the Lilly model, which is larger but still relatively small, is going to be a lot more conventional and manageable. For their size, though, they’re amazing little instruments.j

@@GbHandlebar Thank you for your helpful reply! Actually I wrote another longer comment before, but it didn't show up here for some reason. I was just wondering why the D/G Layout is different on castagnari's homepage (with top row (G/A) - (B/C) - (D/E) - (G/F#) - (B/A) - (D/C) and bottom row (F#/G) - (A/B) - (D/C#) - (F#/E) - (A/G) - (D/B) and if this wouldn't make much difference with the song variety. The Lilly is probably a better option, it's just that I was aiming for a very light weight model, as my plan is to tap dance along. But I will consider it, thanks for the tip!

@@annabell3619 Hi again. I’m glad to hear that you found my previous comment helpful. As far as why Castagnari have put that other layout on their website, I’m not entirely sure. I have Giordys with two different layouts and neither are like that. It’s certainly not what I’d choose to use, if using a D/G for British folk music. At a guess, it’s possible that it’s a transposed version of a layout that G/C players would use when playing music from mainland Europe. Actual G/C instruments are pitched much lower than a D/G, which is why they’re often played in the higher octave, further up the keyboard. Even if that is the reason, it’s still not the layout I’d want. So…yeah…I not really sure. What I do know, however, is that you can order one to your own specification. In particular, the layout I mentioned in my first post is one that they’ve made many times, so I don’t think it would be a problem if you really wanted one. I’d still stick with my suggestion, though, with going for something a little bigger and more standard, should this be your only instrument.

@@GbHandlebar Thanks so much for your answer. Yes they are helpful indeed, as I'm new to accordion playing, (I only have a toy one and practised one song so far :)) and I have read a lot about concertinas and accordions over the past weeks, but it is all very theoretical as I don't play any other instrument either. Also I have never spent so much money for anything else, so I want to figure it out beforehand as much as possible ;) I have printed out the keyboard layout you suggested, in case I decide to get one in D/G.
I thought maybe they have that other layout on their website so that people could use the D and E buttons on the bass side instead of the lowest D/E in the D row, so altogether they have more keys to use?
I've watched the other videos you played with the Giordy. They are all very nice. I like the sound of the "Sort of summer" video, was that the D/G or G/C Giordy?

@@annabell3619 Hi again, I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the other videos. Any were created a long while back, now! The ‘sort of summer’ video was played on my G/C Giordy. It has a European-orientated layout, with emulates the higher part of a full-size instrument. A lot of D/G players really struggle with this!
